The Owls

Whilst browsing through the BBC´s pages, I noted Sheffield Wednesday's plans to redevelop parts of Hillsborough - in particular the plan to remove pillars in the Kop End and the extension of the old Leppings Lane (West Stand).

And all of this for £22 million....? Obviously not using the same builders that Elstone spoke to when the reveelopment of the Bullens was mooted!

If the will was there Goodison could be redeveloped in exactly the same way and presumably for a similar cost. As I said, all it needs is for the will to be there... Looks like Kirkby for us then.

Hillsborough, if I remember correctly, is a one tier stadium, with no disrupted views and is generally a well constructed simple design, and that is sure to keep the costs down. Great stadium though and should be in the Prem.

The last time they averaged over 30,000 in attendence was in 1967-68! They have capicity of 39,800.

Sheffield United’s capacity is 32,600 and apart from the 06-07 season haven’t managed an average over 30,000 since 71-72.

City and Borough population of Sheffield is 530,000 and Liverpool 435,000. Shocking really.

Having watched too many Discovery Channel and Megastructure programmes, I don’t believe there isn’t a solution out there for a financially viable redevelopment of Goodison Park.

If we move to the Tesco nondescript dome we will be the next Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry, Southampton etc etc. Does anyone know of any protests planned against Kirby?

If I remember the rightly, the Leppings end is two tiered and does have supporting posts. However, it’s much smaller than the Bullens Road stand.

Aren’t the closeness of the houses the biggest obstacle preventing cantilever stands at Goodison? The weight distribution bits would stick out into the road. I don’t think SW have the same problem.

Of course that might be bollocks - I heard it somewhere and it stuck but can’t remember where.

Notwithstanding it would be great if Everton did something like this. I don’t think at the minute we’d be breaking the 45000 barrier anyway.

They also say 17 new corporate boxes. How many do Everton want/plan for at Kirkby and how many are there currently?
