Is Lescott finally off?

Comments (63)

I have just heard that Lescott has not trained with the first team sqaud today. Everton have not made a comment. It now looks like he is off to City.

If we get £20M plus a few of their players, but please not Richie Dunne....

The saga of wantaway Lescott appears to have taken another twist: The boy has been forced to train alone this morning, according to Sky Sports News. Either Moyes's hand has been forced, or Hibbert's foaming at the mouth ready to lamp him one again!

Looks like he's played his last game for us, folks. Rodwell & Yobo paired together on Thursday, anyone? Thanks for your service, Joleon; but don't expect flowers and chocolates upon your Sky-Blue return..

Hopefully David has wised up and realised Lescott’s continued employment in untenable... However, it could be fabricated bollocks.

WTF is wrong with Richard Dunne? We could do a lot worse.

The club have refused to comment... which obviously says it all.

When the Lescott deal is completed, Bill will prove he’s no liar by making ALL the funds generated available for purchases. Perhaps, then, we can have an end to the ceasless denigration of a great Chairman!

I see the club has posted training pictures with no Lescott in sight. I didn’t want Everton to sell but fear the stance is a few years late. Why on earth didn’t we put up a fight like this for Rooney? He was an Everton supporter, Lescott isn’t, he was worth a lot of money, Lescott, if we were honest, is not worth that much.

These players want success but what they aren’t saying is they want lots of CASH and success. If we had retained Rooney, surely we could have gone on from there. He has become a big profit maker and we sold him for nothing in comparison. Lescott will never have that effect at City, so it makes even more of a mockery of this suggested price.

Don’t get me wrong, I want City to pay through both nostrils but why Lescott and not Rooney? I have always kept an open mind towards the board, now my heart is screaming... get rid of all of them! Blue forever....

£20m plus Dunne and Wright-Phillips would do me; then we could sign Moutinho, get Banega in on loan, and and maybe find a quick attacking right back from somewhere... wishful thinking hey!

PS... Richard Dunne... no thank you! Sell a good player, replace him with a good player. Dunne is a donkey and he makes Tony Adams look skillful. Please Everton... do not sign him unless the marketing department are thinking of making us some money on Brighton beach!!

If he really hasn’t turned up then that is probably because a deal is already agreed. I very much doubt Lescott is the type to perform a dirty protest!!

I’d prefer Martin Petrov than Richard Dunne.

I’ve had 3 texts off people telling me that Moyes has quit because Lescott has been sold from underneath him.

Press conference scheduled etc...

Do as I did, Nick, and put in a quick call to the Press Office. They might put it more politely to you but they just told me ’Total Bollocks!’

Doddy wasn’t that just the press office saying oh it’s "total bollocks" on the line, does anyone want to talk to him?
Alan Clarke
15   Posted 19/08/2009 at 16:15:48

Nick, why would that be true? Would you walk away from a £3.5 million a year job when getting battered by the opposition is never your fault?

I’ll be glad when this is all over. I wonder whether Everton and Moyes would have handled this differently with hind sight. They should have gone to the negotiating table a lot sooner, got the money and invested it early on instead of now frantically scratching around for bargains.

Alan Clarke, Moyes himself said last week that Man City should have come in earlier so the deal could have been done and Everton could have found a replacement. You can’t sit round the nogotiating table when no offer is in.
Alan Clarke
19   Posted 19/08/2009 at 16:26:00

When did Moyes say that? He referred to Real buying Ronaldo early doors but he’s always maintained none of his players were for sale. I suppose it’s who you believe the most on this one because City say the bids they made were rejected outright, no negotiation.
Mark Stone
20   Posted 19/08/2009 at 16:27:26

It clearly states on the official site that he’s been dropped because his attitude has been bad in training. If that’s true he can fuck off. These people don’t know how fortunate they are.

Hot off the press....

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/19082009/58/premier-league-everton-drop-lescott.html

"We won’t be including him in the squad," Everton manager David Moyes was quoted as saying by Sky Sports ahead of the clash at Goodison. "His attitude has been very poor the last few days.

"We like him a lot, he’s a very nice lad, but he has disappointed us.

"The communication between him and Manchester City has not been correct."

Speculation began when former Wolves defender Lescott was nowhere to be seen during a training session at the club’s Finch Farm complex.

Oh, and my tuppence: We’re well rid.

Was always likely he’d go when there was deafening silence from him when the reports started coming out re City’s interest, never a good sign. Obviously Terry did that too and ended up staying, but we’re not in a position to provide a massive wage hike to keep him, unlike Chelski.

But anyway, assuming the +£20m deal is still on the cards, we’ll do better out of this than City imo. Hopefully it’s cash up front and Moyes has someone good lined up to replace him + others to add to the squad (one of the papers mentioned Huth as a replacement...thoughts?! Sure Taylor would be preferable..). If not, around £20m and Dunne or Petrov is a great deal in my books, especially given the situation now.

And some of you posters were clapping him at the game and telling others to do the same!!! I said last week Lescott didn’t deserve our support because he has clearly been talking to City legally through his agent and his attitude during training and matches has been disgusting. Go on then Kryten, fucking do one!

Sad state of affairs when one year after signing he’s off. Far too much player power now but if he doesn’t want to play for us and is showing attitude then the quicker he’s gone the better. On Sky txt that Moyes is hoping to sort it out after the deadline! No Davey, just get rid now, get the money in and get it spent. There’s no way he’s ever going to clapped and cheered at Goodison again, no way back IMO.

"As far as I’m concerned I hope we can get to August 31 when the transfer window closes, and then he’ll get his head around the situation and get his attitude right," Moyes said.

"It doesn’t mean we are closer to selling him, but he won’t be back in the squad until his attitude is right."

Sounds like he is staying after all then... man what a werid start to the season we’ve had AGAIN!! :-(

Just seen this on teamtalk.com - Everton boss David Moyes said: "Joleon’s attitude has not been right these past days, he has disappointed me and he has disappointed his team-mates. He is not in the right frame of mind."

But Moyes insisted he still does not want to sell the player, saying: "I hope this will all be sorted out, after the (transfer) deadline."

Why is he still insistent on keeping him if Lescott is doing what he’s doing, get rid of the cunt. I hear he refused to train, well if that's his attitude then why doesn't Moyesy take him to City himself and pick up the £20m + Petrov and Johnson whilst he’s at it and keep Jo!. : )

Can’t believe this!! His attitude isn’t right?? Come again??

After what happened on Saturday, he and the rest of them ought to be busting their balls to make amends!!

So his attitude must be what then? That he refused to train? Or he’s bitching at everyone? Reading into Moyes’s comments,it sounds like he’s effectively saying that Lescott has now turned into an arsehole...

I despair.

Just how does Moyes think the club are going to benefit from all this shit?

It has gone past ever working and it appears he is the only one who wants him to stay now and it has become too personal to him and it is hurting the club badly. Get shut Moyes and let’s move on, it’s hardly Ronaldo we are losing.

John Martin
36   Posted 19/08/2009 at 18:04:53

£20 million plus any player and we should bite their hands off. Lescott isn't worth £20 million so that plus a player and we will be laughing. Lescott is a good Premier League player... probably better than what we will get with the money. But in a good tight defence I’d take Taylor/Huth/Cahill/Dunne etc and the money spent on a quality midfielder anyday.

Its not like we are losing a Maldini or a Baresi or a Beckenabuer. He’ll be replaced if BK gives the money to Moyes. That's a big IF though. Vidic, the fella at Arsenal, and Skirtel at the RS show decent defenders are available at good prices.

37   Posted 19/08/2009 at 18:18:40

This is the first time I have been able to write having witnessed Saturday's debacle.

Well done Moyes, sending Joleon home to throw toys out of his pram is the right thing to do. Lescott, if he had half a brain, would never let his standards drop, especially against a side like Arsenal, and with the support he got from the fans. His lack of smarts and lack of professionalism shows why he is most likely on his way out of a big club to a bunch of losers with loads of money and a history of failure.

Let's face it, if they won a League Cup within 5 years that lot in Middle Eastlands would be over the moon. With £200 million to spend on players, I would expect Everton to win several trophies. Such is our tradition.

In addition, Rafa must stay, just in case the Red Shite get a manager with a bit of class both on and off the field.
Mark Wynne
38   Posted 19/08/2009 at 18:26:52

So Doddy, the reason we haven’t spent any money is because we’ve been waiting for the Lescott cash? Even if all that money (minus Wolves’ cut) is made available it means we’ve become a selling club.

You call that a ringing indictment for our chairman????

Don’t you all realise that this is as much about our manager making a stance for EFC & football rather than simply allowing Shit features (lescott) to go.
DM is in the same mold as Ferguson & he won’t be dictated to, think back to Hughes statement about "trying to talk to the people who will make the decision" - DM is in charge !! & I’m afraid lescott better get used to the fact that he really is’nt going anywhere - the sulking & tantrims are recieved with a run with the reserves.
BELIEVE ME HE IS’NT GOING ANYWHERE !!

Sky Sports seems to have quoted that Lescott may leave if Shitty come up with an offer deemed suitable.

"However, Moyes did concede that he would consider letting the England international leave the club if a suitably large offer was put on the table.

He said: "I find Joleon a really good boy to work with, a pleasure in fact. I couldn’t say enough good things about him.

"But the boy has changed. It is not just me who has noticed but the players who are working with him have noticed it as well.

"But the door is open for Joleon. We don’t want him to go, I have said that all along, unless we get an offer that I think is right.

"But at the present time he is not in the squad and it is best that we get on without him."
Anthony Newell
42   Posted 19/08/2009 at 19:31:30

I think Moyes is playing a very dangerous game here if he thinks Man City will come in with a vastly improved offer that he thinks is ’fair’.

The player needs to go ASAP so we can try and draft some recruits in before the deadline. But please God not the fucking Dunny Monster.
Gerry Western
43   Posted 19/08/2009 at 19:47:51

I’ve been saying for weeks Lescott will go if we receive an offer we can’t refuse. Moyes has simply been playing hard ball. If City don’t back up their words with a much improved offer I’ve no doubt Moyes won’t hesitate to block any deal. It’s now a case of who blinks first.

I’ve always believed Moyes has a figure of around £25m in mind whether that’s a straight deal or say £20m plus a player is debatable. I seriously expect the club to now demand City put up or shut up. The serious bargaining starts now and not with an opening salvo of £15m its more likely the bidding will now commence at £20m. If Moyes does succeed in realising a figure in this region it may well have been worth the deliberations.

The fans have shown the manager great support throughout this whole saga and it’s now more important than ever they continue to do so. The last thing the manager and the club need now is for the fans to be demanding a quick sale.

44   Posted 19/08/2009 at 19:44:13

I have gone backwards and forwards on this, but Moyes remains sure of what he’s doing. He has stated that every player has a valuation, so until City match ours, he’s staying, it seems. If that’s a good idea, I am not so sure, but Moyes is.

I do suppose that by making a stance like this though, Moyes is trying to send a message out to other clubs that, unless we want it to happen, you have no chance. Unlike a couple of season ago, when the likes of West Ham were said to be after Cahill. I hope he pulls it off.

Marc Williams
45   Posted 19/08/2009 at 19:46:46

We just need to get a good price BUT whatever the outcome the club need to learn from this as it’s been a complete shambles.

A Wolves fan I know has asked one of their officials what they’ll get if he’s sold: it’s definitely 10% of anything above £5M, so on the current offer (£18M), Wolves get £1.3M & we get £16.7M.

Lewis Austin
46   Posted 19/08/2009 at 19:41:15

I think Moyes has finally realised Lescott has to go. He seems to have changed his stance with these latest comments. On Friday he was addiment he wouldn't be sold but today he says "everyone has their price" and "we dont want him to go... unless we get an offer I think is right".

I’m a great believer in Moyes but I think he realy should have seen this coming and sold him when he handed his transfer request in.

Sell for £20mil + Petrov and M Johnson. Buy Sakho (CB from PSG), Senderos and Bentley.

47   Posted 19/08/2009 at 20:01:34

I also found it "interesting" that Moyes confirmed that there has been talks between City and Lescott. If we as his employers, have not given permission for them or him to have these discussions, then surely this must be a case of "taping up"?
Christopher Brierley
48   Posted 19/08/2009 at 20:08:28

I can't see any cash + player offer going ahead as most of City’s decent players are on better wages than our wage structure allows so they are hardly gonna take a pay-cut unless they were desperate for regular games and not so money orientated...

That rules out most of their players then and the players they probably want to offload will have an over-inflated price on them much like Lescott. If they are thinking of offering £18M + Dunne and we are pushing for £25M (rumoured), I can't see Dunne being worth £7m... not a sniff!

Steven Twine
49   Posted 19/08/2009 at 20:02:52

This whole thing is pissing us all off. I like davey but i think he has dropped a bollock here. When Lescott said he wanted to go, I would have thought Kenwright and Moyes would have tried to talk him round; that failed cos the shithouse then put it in writing when he met up with England squad.

Now it is obvious that he wanted to go. So Moyes should have said to Kenwright, "Lets screw as much out of City as possible, Petrov i would like." Then demand all of the transfer money to get in players. Tuncay off 'Boro'; Taylor off the Barcodes, and Hutton off Spurs.

With today's actions of him training with the reserves, we are left with an unhappy player whose attitdute stinks and a very stubborn Moyes and no-one is happy. Where do we go from here? Moyes's stance is admirable but after what he has said in the press he may feel stupid if he backs down and let's Lescott go.

Alan,

This issue has always been between Moyes and Man City. Everton, to date, have only done what Moyes has told them.

I suspect (can't guarantee this for sure mate sorry) that the reason Moyes’s contract took so long was because of the wording within. Moyes wanted guarantees and one of those would have been control of the incoming, outgoing and existing players.

Moyes is very VERY smart. Through all negotiations, and even more so after the contract, Moyes has stated his ’loyalty’ to everything — including EFC. Let's just hope EFC will be loyal to the contract they agreed with Moyes.

It's all politics my friend... Still want to make that bet ;-)

I think DM has done exactly the right thing, drop him into the reserves until he gets his head straight.

Let’s face it he’s got 3+ years on his contract so his value won't plummet immediately plus he’ll suddenly realise that this is a World Cup year and playing reserve team football won't get him on the plane to South Africa!! If that isn't a wake up call then I dont know what is.

Good on you Davey, stick to your guns!!
Alan Clarke
52   Posted 19/08/2009 at 20:56:24

Suzy, come on now. I don’t want you to get worked up with me again like last time but every time you post something about Lescott, you post it with such certainty when I don’t think you know that much about what’s going on. Your post last week was claiming he’ll definitely go but you couldn’t say when, possibly even in January! Maybe next year, maybe the year after that. From what Moyes is saying I still don’t think any of us can say with any certainty whether Lescott’s actually going.

Suzy, you have to admit this transfer saga has not panned out the way you’ve predicted and you haven’t stayed true to your original story.

I hope what your saying about Moyes being very smart is true BUT if this deal doesn’t go through until deadline day and Moyes finds £25 million burning a hole in his pocket until January and we have a depleted squad, "mark my words" I will be very very pissed off.

57   Posted 19/08/2009 at 16:28:18

If I were Moyes, I'd let him rot in the reserves until next summer and then get rid once he's fucked himself over for the World Cup.

With Jagielka out, I expected Lescott to stay until he returned, then if he was fit in time, move on in January. If Jags wasn't fit in time, I thought Lescott would stay until the summer. I thought he'd be a big enough man to see that Everton needed him for at least the first half of the season.

It appears that Lescott isn't prepared to help out the club and manager that were prepared to give him his chance, so fuck him. If he isn't professional enough to get his head around his "problems" and play for Everton, then give Man City a £30M take-it-or-leave-it price. If the £30M isn't forthcoming then leave him in the reserves and give him a year to think about what a naughty boy he's been.

58   Posted 19/08/2009 at 20:53:00

Suzy,

you say the issue is between Man City and David Moyes and I think you have hit the nail on the head, Moyes's ego is at stake here and it is not beneficial to the people who employ him, Everton Football Club, or the supporters of the club.

He took us to the brink of disaster at the start of last season with his childish sulking because he couldn’t get his own way, and here we are 12 months on, Moyes posturing again and putting his own stubbornness and arrogance before the good of the club.

The much criticised Chairman needs to nip this one in the bud as soon as possible, he and the Board must tell Moyes to sell Lescott and get some quality players in before the deadline. If Moyes doesn’t like it, let him piss off, there are plenty of young hungry and ambitious managers out there (does that ring any bells 7 years on?).

He has dithered and dithered again and again for weeks now, and by his own admission HE runs things at Everton, so the failure to sign Naughton, Delph and Elm — just three of the players we know for definite he targeted — is down to HIM, it is definitely getting to the stage where he is putting himself and all his egos before the good of the club,

We all know and all the managers in the Premier Leagur know that the right side of midfield needs replacing this season, but I cannot for the life of me understand why Moyes can't see this, it really can't be that hard to find a right full back and a right winger can it?

Keith Glazzard
59   Posted 19/08/2009 at 21:43:17

Richard - totally agree. And I suspect that is what DM would do if he was the owner, and/or money was no object. But city must be able to put money up front and that will make the incoming player deals easier.

But maybe not - if they can’t come up with the cash, he stays anyway.
Christopher Brierley
60   Posted 19/08/2009 at 22:38:06

Frank Kearney, your opinions are based on the fact that we had any money to buy these players in the first place. How can you "dither" if the money isn't there to buy to buy these players in the first place?

Also, there is the fact that, IF Moyes does sell Lescott, who says he will get the money raised for much needed transfers? The board may see fit to hold much of it back to service debts and "project trashcan".

So at the end of the day, we may be selling a player just to service debts and not bolster the squad... stranger things have happened.
Marc Williams
61   Posted 19/08/2009 at 23:02:46

Christopher Brierley - It’s my understanding that is eactly what happened with the sale of ’Jimmy Mack’ to Brum’.

As to Joleon I think he’s playing a risky game as Moyes is a disciplinarian but by all accounts is a pussycat compared to Fabio Capello. He demands ’old fashioned’ respect & good behaviour, so if JL plays up then I’d be very surprised if Capello wouldn’t take notice.
Roy Coyne

Alan, You are so incorrect, inconsistent and unbelievably unintelligent it is becoming quite amusing. Your inability to exercise patience is matched only with your ability to make unfounded wild statements and quotations.

Lescott is 100% DEFINITELY leaving EFC. I THINK it will be in the January transfer window. At the absolute WORST it will be BEFORE the 2010 World Cup. I have always been consistent with this as we both know. Please let me know where you get this ‘the year after that’ quotation. If you manage to do this I will send you 4 tickets to the game of your choice (has to be a home game). My next comment smothered in certainty is that you will not be able to do this. I would, in all honesty, be a little surprised if you even respond.

Start thinking things through before you commit. Good man!
