Whats the point in having them??

Comments (13)

We all go on about how good Moyes is at blooding youngsters but tomorrow we have 1 recognised centre half so instead of playing Neville or Rodwell (who are both clearly not centre halves) then why not give a reserve a chance?

James Mccarten is a 19-year-old in our reserves and someone who must be available?? Or Shane Duffy, who I heard was in the N Ireland full squad recently!! Give one of them a crack.......

With the experience of Neville, Yobo, Howard, Cahill, Baines etc all around him communication shouldn't be an issue, I will guarantee they are chomping at the bit so the only question is are they good enough? Only 1 way to find out!! Otherwise what's the point in having them???

Moyes sees them everyday and they must play training games together so he must know weather they are good enough, and maybe they are not quite ready yet for the first team, but maybe in a season or two down the line he hopes they may progress to first team players.

I'd worry if we put Shane Duffy in there. From what I have seen, I don't think he will play too many 1st team games for Everton! What about that Mustafi we got from Germany? He got into Hamburg's side quite regular at right back and centre half, and they are a decent side in that division.

Don’t know if many people would agree that Rodwell is clearly not a centre half John... several rather respected commentators are predicting he’ll forge a very very successful career there. I do hope Moyes plays him there tomorrow myself and think he will (please god not Neville at CB).

What a joke! Moyes must have expected this and still no cover at centre back... The club is just a shambles. The squad is actually weaker than last season. The latest attempt at a signing, Ever Banega is dependant on a favourable hearing (despite the fact he doesn’t qualify for a work permit). After Obinna last season... No chance.

The worst thing after tomorrow's game, will be listening to the ever optimistic skipper Neville saying "We can still do it!"

Does anyone else think that Phil Neville is starting to sound like Mick Lyons with the " We’ll do it for the fans" comments....

Dont knock Neville. Whatever you think of him he’s the club captain and has to find a way to rally the troops and the fans cos he’s not getting any help from the sidelines or upstairs.

Neville’s way of rallying the troops looked really good last Saturday.

Anyone know if the game is on tv tonight?

Jack Rodwell is a centre back. He has been all the way through his development and the only time he’s been regularly used elsewhere is in the Everton first team, for the rather obvious reason that he’s played as a 16- and 17-year-old, not ideal for a Premier League centre back. He’s now 18, he looks strong enough, time for him to man up.

Ian McDowell, following you logic, why are Hibbit and Osman in the first eleven? Doesn’t Moyes look at them in training and in the Cup Final? All the fans can’t be wrong on these two players. Sure they are 100% Blues but if we want to move on up we need new blood.

Give the likes of Vaughan, Gosling, Baxter, Wallace and maybe Duffy (no relation as far as I know) a run out. And not just the last 10 minutes. Maybe one or two might surprise everyone.

We certainly need some changes to lift the gloom.

Moyes sees Hibbert and Osman everyday, and every Saturday!! These two "just aren’t ready yet" wither even though they are both 27!! Would much rather see two youngsters given a chance instead of these two, can’t do any worse. Moyes prefers experience, and the same old stuff though.

IN MOYES WE TRUST... yawn.

This has long been a problem at Everton. Young players not being given a proper spell in the team. Yes, some of them over the years do not make the impression even after a few games but gving them 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there is not the way to treat them. Even Rooney, who everyone knew had the talent, was far too often on the bench.

The present youngsters we have, except for Rodwell, are in the same boat. Gosling was the big hero against Redshite but has had little extended playing time. We have others who will probably leave in due course before getting a chance.

When you have paid €15 million for Fellaini, he will play every time regardless of form... and perpetual choice Osman will play. Youngsters will soon get tired of such scenarios and want to leave.

Rodwell may well be an enigma-position wise as he being tall is not yet strong enough for a centre back. Maybe he will fill out but a Glenn Hoddle type midfielder is what he is at the moment.

What's the crack with Seamus Coleman, he gets a blister like a month ago and disappears... did the blister grow and cover his leg first, then his whole body. Is he now a giant walking blister?

Everyone was banging on about how good he was looking in pre-season and now a blister has forced him out of action for so long. Seriously, if I get a blister, I pop it — end of. I’m not blaming him he just doing what the physios tell him, but we could do with a replacement RB and he fits the bill.

I would still pick Neville for the Sigma game, mainly because it keeps him outta midfield where i think at the moment Rodwell should play, as at present its his best position and the team generally does better with him there.

We are constantly being linked with Huth, Senderos and now Taylor for replacement CB’s and this seems to say that Moyes doesn’t think the reserves are ready, and with only having one CB who is available to play we will probably go on to sign either two of these or one plus an unknown.

ps: I would quite like to see what that Mustafi kid is made of we have brought him in with a big reputation and supposedly beat of interest from major rivals for his signature so why no involvement in the first team?
