Agent Kenwright

Comments (26)

We need a new board at our "small club". During the custodianship of Billy Liar...oops, sorry... Blue Bill...o ops sorry Agent Kenwright, he has turned Everton into the small club that we now get refered to in the media. Ten years ago, no-one thought of us as that, sleeping giant maybe, but not small!

He has divided and conquered Evertonians on the Destination Kirkby issue. Unforgivable. He wants us to go to a retail park in Kirkby (The Green Shield Stamp Stadium). He calls himself the custodian of our beloved club, a bit like putting a fox in charge of the henhouse. His tenure will be remembered as the one that swapped Goodison for a cow shed in Kirkby, and for turning us into a second rate club. He has successfully lowered Evertonians' expectations of what constitutes success, i.e. FA Cup runners-up, 5th place, Europe, top-ten finish, 40 points etc.

We are Everton, fourth most successful club in English football, with a list of firsts longer than Agent Kenwright's pinochio nose! We wouldn’t have accepted this ten years ago, so why now?

Divide and conquer: Fans are supposedly split on the Kirkby Cowshed. Fans don’t know if it is Blue Bill or Billy Liar. Fans don’t know if Moyes is a lap dog or a great manager. By splitting the fans, by silencing the small shareholders, he has kept his vice-like grip on this club, and still we do nothing.

Has any chairman or manager, after this length of time without success, been able to stay in their respective jobs? Would that be the case at any of the so-called top four, or the next best club, Spurs, Villa or City? Doubt it! Remember this...Evil prospers while good men sit on their hands...

Blue Bill, Billy Liar, Don’t think so. Agent Kenwright... Mission Accomplished.

Hmmm... what an interesting question. And you thought all this up by yourself, Robert? Or have you by any chance been reading some of our recent correspondence on this and similar subjects?

"Agent Kenwright"?!?! That's a weird one, though, isn't it? In all my years running this website, with lots and lots and lots of discussion about Bill Kenwright, no-one ever insinuated that he was from the Dark Side... until one Thomas Williams in this bizarre tirade. And now, just like Liverpool buses you come right along behind him seem ing to suggest the same?

And the funny thing for me is this: we've never heard of you either, and this is your first post to ToffeeWeb.

How much crap can we take from the Board, mainly Bumbling Bill Kenwright and his "I'm looking for invesnment 24/7 bull?! I know I've had more than enough. Kenwright is turning our club into a laughing stock!

We've all had a laugh at the way the two clowns at Anfield are running that club! Yet their fans with their Sons of Shankly effort are prepared to fight their Board. How many cock-ups will it take?

Well I think it's time for us the fans of THE GREATEST CLUB THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN to make a stand against the board before its to late!

SACK THE BOARD!!! COYB

Michael,

Going back to then close of last years main transfer window, with no signings — news of the Afro was still a few hours away — one reader had a go at Kenwright accusing him of being an Agent Johnson type.

I had a go back at him. For all of Kenwrights faults — and there are a lot — nobody can aver accuse him of deliberately taking down the club.

From memory, you yourself had a shot back at me, backing the original point about Agent Kenwright.

Micheal, "Agent Kenwright" does sound a bit strong, I agree, but he's now done more damage than Agent Johnson. He's turned us into a small club in the media and we're off to Tesco's in Kirkby.

He says he loves Everton but actions speak louder than words. He will ruin us if we do nothing; we must do something. Oh and I'm sorry that you've never heard of me, Micheal, I didn't realise you knew every Evertonian personally.

Robert, this might be your 1st post on ToffeeWeb, but I can’t hold back. This is a terrible post — not in terms of ‘I agree’ or ‘totally disagree’ but because you’re obviously spouting and spitting after that weekend’s thrashing. And fair enough –— so am I. But Your post is all over the place, makes little sense, touches on about 25 topics without giving them any substance.

You speak of 10 years ago — that we wouldn’t have accepted this crap — but 10 years ago we were playing much crappier football than in the last few years. We just scraped relegation with 43 points. There was lots of passion, and screaming and crying and we were used to being in and around the relegation zone those days.

Since DM has been here, the team has gradually improved, expectations have changed, the footballing world has gone bonkers, and prize money has raised the stakes, the yanks, arabs and oil barons have taken over the EPL.

So do we sit back and scream "I want some of that too"... or do we say "I’m happy to be an Evertonian, and want the best for my club"?

What does the club motto ‘NSNO’ mean? To me? Is it all black and white and winning is all that matters? Or does it actually have something to do with sport and football?

Do I support through thick and thin? Or does the club motto eternally condemm me to a life of misery? Glass half full or half empty?

You are the only person who can answer these questions for yourself. You are the only person who can start to enjoy the football — if that’s what you want. Of course we can give out about the manager, the board and the chairman and the players and the pitch and the future and the past — but hey, does that make you feel better or more important?

I for one, have been trying in vain to give up on football for some years now, because of the frustrations, the switch in power, teams selling their souls. But one thing I am proud of is still to be an Evertonian, and as much as I try I can’t shake it.

Seems Saturday’s Gunners game was the most popular on TV + Net for entertainment. I’m happy I saw a great team playing. Angry about losing and attitude and stupidity and lack of responsibility and lack of players… BUT it’s an addiction, and a passion, and as long as EFC does not sell it’s soul and continues to improve (slowly but surely), I am a happy and proud man. If however they do sell their soul to Tesco or an Emirate or Sheik, I will try to go on a detox — but I predict that it’s an incurable disease.

But one thing is for certain: if I was putting all my eggs in one basket — and that basket was called EFC — then yes, it would be glass half-empty. So I’m glad a decent part of my life, my heart and mind is elsewhere. Is that maybe the answer to our misery?

Kevin
Thanks for your reply, I too love all things Everton and it's in my blood and always will be. But the facts are Kenwright has already sold our soul the minute he agreed to DK. Do you agree that he has blocked the small shareholders from what should be their right to question the Board on impotant matters? Did you vote for Kirkby? I didn't, he is a liar and every Evertonian knows it, surely you don't want a list of these or we will miss the match tonight.

What's Green's or Earl's part in all this? Are they here for the retail park, or have they always been Everton fans. You're right, football's changed in ten years and we've been left behind because we have a liar in charge.

I'm not posting this after the defeat on Saturday, and it doesn't make me feel better, it just needs saying. Kevin, don't listen to him — he tells lies. And you proved my point about lowering expectations — you're content to go along with this steady improvement theme. This is Everton, Kevin — we demand better. Wake up an smell the coffee!

It’s now or never that the fans let Kenwright know what they think of his running of the club and his Kirkby disaster, and they need to do it at the games.

Don’t tell me we don’t want to affect the team performing, that’s already been sorted. If we stand back and do nothing then we can’t really complain can we?

Kirkby will be the end of the road for many thousand of hardcore supporters. Are we going to do nothing? Come on KEIOC — you're the only ones who have the resources to mobilise a demo.

Robert, there are a number of facets to supporting a team / club and it’s been mentioned here a few times before that no-one is entitled to question another fan’s loyalty or passion or commitment to EFC. Supporting a team is a very personal thing and bringing this passion into a stadium where others from very different backgrounds, with very different knowledge and cultures and priorities and expectations, means that a fanbase can really only agree on one thing — we want the best for the team and for them to be successful.

How this is achieved is another ocean of fish. I didn’t vote for or against Kirkby because I live 950 miles away in Munich and hence have a very different perspective on and experience with EFC than yourself. I honestly don’t know how I feel on topic DK. I like the idea of a new stadium, but I’m also a traditionalist and think tradition cannot be just dumped for something new. I simply haven’t the time, motivation or energy to go through all the motions and endless debates to inform myself.

So yes, I am naïve and out of touch in that sense. But I don’t think I’m alone. I don’t buy Billy’s lies, because I don’t listen to it; same as I don’t read the tabloids. My mate sent me the gossip yesterday about Banega and the work permit and said, "Keep the fingers crossed" but experience tells me… don’t hope for too much.

I do admire those who take action and organise demos and speak their minds (provided these opinions are informed and rational). If I were like you living close to the crime scene I would love to be involved in the debates and demos etc. But one thing is certain: 98% of the information that comes my way is crap, badly communicated, irrational, gossip, lies, misunderstandings, badly informed, twisted truths etc. etc.

This is consistent in all forms of media, internet and from the mouths of all around me. Depending on how interested I am, how much time & energy I have I turn on my spam filter and it passes me by. Eg. DK, transfers, takeovers injuries etc….

Waking up to smell the coffee is fine but are you talking about the instant coffee or the ground coffee (excuse the DK pun), or Italian Coffee or Espresso…. Or who decides exactly what we can call coffee…???

EFC “realities”, experiences and perspectives are very different. But that’s what makes it ‘interesting’ I guess.

All very well repeating ’we’re nor as crap now as we have been recently’ instead of ’Nil Satis..’ but I sat in the Lower Gwladys thinking 30 years ago there’d have been a riot after that and remembering the sheer joy on my, then, young son’s face in Nov 85 after we’d thumped Arsenal 6 - 1, Kenny Sansom says it’s the best team performance he’s ever witnessed, as player or spectator. Don’t expect the likes of me be be grateful for the current (’we know our place’) attitude and ambition.

13   Posted 20/08/2009 at 12:30:03

Kenwright is no agent, he’s just inept. Totally useless at running a top flight club without any resources.

If we win tonight and beat Burnley then the apathy continues. I would never condone Marsh’s comments of wishing a loss on Everton but I really don’t think there’ll be any action from the fans unless we hit a really bad patch of form, which realistically may happen.
Robert Daniels
14   Posted 20/08/2009 at 13:00:04

Quite right, Alan, we've been here before and they just seem to do enough to stop the fans revolting. I too wouldn't wish a defeat but we need to do something... time is running out and like K Mitchell said we will only have ourselves to blame if we let him get away with tuning us into a second-rate club.

Robert Daniels [[ We wouldn’t have accepted this ten years ago, so why now? ]]

Really? We finished 14th but we would be pissed off if some said we’d finish 5th, 6th, one 4th and a Cup Final? Absolute bollocks. History history history... well part of our history is that we were relegation material for a number of years not too long ago. Everyone loves the history part where we win things — well that shite period is our history too and ignoring that makes you just as ignorant of our history as someone who calls us a small club.

That said I agree we need a new owner. But there is no need to vomit up a pile of absolute shite to make that point — even those of us who don’t think the sky is falling would agree Kenwright needs to sell. However I don’t need to pretend that we were winning the league every year prior to his arrival — we were utterly horrendous for a number of years prior to his arrival.

A reasonable person can admit fortunes have improved since he took over AND want him gone. There is no need to be so insanely agenda driven in every bloody post on here. We get it.

How do we know that there are no buyers? ... oh that's right... 'cos the liar says so. Looks like were stuck with Blue Bill then cos he wouldn't dare tell a fib, would he? No buyers, I am the best, stick with me lads, Fortress Sports Fund, etc etc, deal of the century, jump on board the Tesco express lads. You've never had it so good. Thanks, Blue Bill, thanks.

Steve, I offered to buy Bill out, even give him a small profit on his own, initial personal investment. I’m a Blue and, like Bill at the time of his buy-out, can guarantee that I can personally provide no further cash.

You’ll never believe what his response was...

Rob Heib.
I didn't say we won the title every year, but we did oust chairmen, managers for under performing. I do realise that you get it but we still do nothing. By the way a few years earlier we won the cup an still got rid, and since talkshite took over the likes of Millwall, Tranmere, Wigan, Boro, Pompey etc, have had a day out at Wembley. I'm not ignoring our shite periods of history cos were having one now, I would just like us to do something. Instead of meekly going to the cowshed.

In September 2004, I wrote an article 'Our True Blue Chairman' about Mr Kenwright and I re-read it recently as so much of the mailbag is about Bill. Not a lot has changed, except that a few more Evertonians are seeing the scales drop from their eyes.
Rob Heib
22   Posted 20/08/2009 at 17:41:11

[[ I didnt say we won the title every year, but we did oust chairmen, managers for under performing. ]]

Most people would say we largely overperform our resources and (media) expectations. The only way we underperform is that we used to be good a long time ago (far longer than most of us would like to admit). We may not like it but the players we have likely overperform -- give them Alan Shearer as a manager and we might be in real trouble.

The other point a lot of you seem to overlook is that MOST chairmen are terrible. Fans are addicted to being wrong about their new owners: Newcastle thought they might be in with a shot and now they’re relegated; ManU figured they were done for and they keep winning. Most owners and manager are failures. By your standards, every Prem manager and owner aside from the top four are failures. Why would we get a good one when there are hardly any good ones out there? ManU fans don’t think they have a good owner and they win the league every bloody year. It’s easy for us to see how they’re irrational but not so easy to admit when we might be irrational ourselves. Wegner hasn’t won anything in four years -- a lot of their fans want him gone. The RS don’t like their billionaires. That’s three of the top four who have issues with their owner/manager and you expect us to get someone we’ll be happy with?

Lots of owners have absolutely torn their teams apart -- in a far more real way than finishing fifth instead of fourth.

Rick, I've just read your article from 2004. How right you were and indeed still are. However, we didn't know we were going to Kirkby then so the situation just gets worse by the day. What will become of our beloved club under him? I dread to think...

Hi Michael and all, sorry my post appears to bother you Michael, perhaps you have awoken out of your slumber as well. The whole point of my argument is we accept things too easily.

I have told people years ago about Kenwright and nobody would listen, finally now some people are beginning to wake up, to the fact the man is a fraud. Unfortunately with our UK education not allowing free thinking for the past 20 years, means more people not being able to see what’s really going on, until it’s too late.

We have basically muddled along during the whole of his 9 years, with numerous empty promises to the fans, and to date he has never delivered one of his promises. The classic for me being the Rooney affair, "I wouldn’t sell him for £50M, I can assure you of that".

Really Mr. Kenwright, you were right on that one, you sold the club's only academy/youth produced world class player for £10M down!! You should have gone for that alone, but the fans just accepted it, and that my friends is the reason we still have mediocrity and a chairman who is shafting us from a great height.

So whats the answer, a foreign owner, well he’d better be one of the richest men in the world, or we’re stuck in the same place aren’t we???

To crack the "big five???" we’re going to have to compete financially, commercially and consistently.

It’s obvious why Manchester United and Liverpool are such an interesting opportunity, Chelsea, well it’s taken a while but they’re getting there, I’m not sure why Arsenal are such a draw, aside from their relative consistency over the last 12 years or so, but you rarely see a shirt of theirs outside London. Man City, well, they’ll be in a similar position to Chelsea. They’ll build a mini galactico side devoid of history and success, but with the names that kids all over the world will want on the back of their shirt.

The major thing these clubs have is a stadium capable of holding large amounts of fans and also has ample commerical oporunity. We, sadly don’t. You can’t blame Kenwright for that.

So again, Why should we sell our club to someone who really doesn’t care about us, to build up massive debts, just to be in a similar position that we are in now???
