Why we should all just give up

Comments (32)

Football is a great game, but a shoddy business.

We all sit here waiting on these transfers, but what's really going on? It's a series of mind games and negotiations between various well dodgy characters you wouldn't dream of buying a used car off — that's what.

Everton will let Lescott go. Whether or not Moyes is in on it is anybody's guess, but Pinocchio Kenwright (tells porkies and has someone's — Green's — hand up his rear) is just doing exactly what he did with Rooney. I guarantee you Lescott will go in the the last 48 hoursof the window. City are hoping we'll get cold feet and accept a lower price now because they know Everton needs the cash to buy these 4 players Moyes is on about.

Just wait until the last day, like last year, while the agents and money men swill around in their troughs of greed trying to arrange as many deals as they can. Lescott will go, Senderos or perhaps Wheater will come in, so will Banega (laughably already cup tied for Europe after playing for Valencia last night... makes you wonder if this is another phantom Kenwright move?) Distin too on a massive signing on fee, and finally we'll get a loan deal for someone we have never heard of playing in Macedonia or somewhere. Just like last year, there will actually be a surplus and this will be squirelled back to the DK Fund while we are left to wonder what the hell happened.

Only consolation is that this tide of greed and shady dealings is going on at nearly every other club. Just log on on Sept 1 to find out what happened and enjoy what's left of Summer in the meantime!

Éver Banega? — Does anyone know what time the decision will be made as to whether he will be granted a work permit? I hope he gets it he looks to be a gem!

September 2nd Karl. Transfer window extended by 24 hours to allow for the 31 August Bank Holiday...

Tom, have a look at the "Rumour Mill" mate. Someone seems to think the permit has been declined. No suprise really. I agree totally with Karl - probabaly a bull-shit move anyway!

We are a joke. Who is going to play centre back on Sunday? Neville? And who is going to play in midfield if Rodwell and Pienaar are injured? Gosling and who? Or will we have to play 2 upfront because we will run out of midfielders. It’s going to be interesting with us struggling for players already, God help us towards the end of the season after a possibly long gruelling European campaign.

Anthony, Never mind a long gruelling European campaign, God help us after enduring another arduous long gruelling Transfer Window in which, once again, we, Everton have been an utter shambles.

So many people, so many lies or is it untruths that come from the "Official" side of things. I know it keeps us fans on our toes, but I for one have sore feet now!!

Give Up?

If you want to give up on your club then go for it. Don't be so proud of the fact that it makes you come on and write about it though. Loser.

Mind you Anthony, not as bad as the start of last season when the whole bench had to get special permission from their mums to stay up until the end of the matches. Suspect that we’re going to get 3 or 4 random players we’ve never heard of in the last couple of days of the transfer window as usual. As long as Moyes can pull them out the bag as usual, then no problem. As and when Moyes leaves then god help us...

Karl, we don’t get a Summer here in Britain, so that’s why we’re all chasing around the internet looking for scraps of Everton related stories! I too hope that Lescott is sold... he’s shown what poor character he has this last week.

It seems Suzy has defied science, and developed a new syndrome called ’Constant EFC-PMS’. ;-) sorry!

I fail to see how anyone on the EFC board could have persuaded Joleon Lescott to submit a written request for a transfer.

Oh, perhaps this means he will forfeit his cut of the transfer fee (is that 10%, I don’t know, but that would be £2m out of £20m), so the club is £2m better off. That’s why we’ve persuaded him to put his name to paper?

As this is only my misguided logic I am fully qualified to say what a pile of poo it is. If anyone thinks anything like this has been going on in the Lescott affair, let them come up with something even more improbable.

This has been possibly the strangest transfer window from the will ’e/won’t ’e/who really gives a toss of Rasmus Elm to Vladimir Bystrov, for whom (we are told by two sites) talks are at an advanced stage and it isn’t on the radar anywhere else.

Suzy.......

I meant give up wasting our energy worrying about it all, not give up on the Club totally.

(That’s never going to happen. Back in England tomorrow and hoping for a win at Turf Moor like everyone else. I’m an addict like the rest of us.)

You should read it more carefully. Dumb arse! :)

Thanks Matt. I’d forgotten about the Bank Holiday. Even the grubby agents have to have a day off don’t they?

Got to line their coats with Nylons and Antique Digital Watches ready for one last day of business.

Thanks Karl,

I have read back through it and still maintain that the leading statement is not supported by the main text. It is really shabby. Dumb arse is a phase I have not heard for a long time and certainly not as frequently as you may have. Thank you for bringing it back though — it's awesome dude.

A few corrections seeing as though you are acting like such a twat: City do not suddenly think we are desperate for cash just because Moyes has said he wants four players. We will not get a loan deal for someone we have never heard of. We will not get a loan deal for some playing in Macedonia (’somewhere’ is a pretty big place though and I too feel we might get someone form there). There was not a surplus last year - look forward to hearing you qualify that statement.

Suzy

I believe you kicked off the ’Americanisms’ describing me as a ’Loser’ for stating that I felt we should all give up worrying about transfers as they are basically out of our hands, and, seemingly, in some very grubby ones if you look at the characters behind the machinations. (ie, Agents and Bill Kenwright’s mysterious money sources.)

Clearly you take things a bit too personally when the reposte of ’Dumb Arse’ is used with a smile.

If I recall correctly, last year we sold McFadden for £5.5m, Johnson for £13.8m and let Carsley and Wessels leave for nothing. Total £19.3m (These are press reported figures of course and do not get paid in lump sums, but we’ll have to assume that we pay on the drip and we receive on the drip at roughly equal speeds.)

We eventually brought in the unheard of Castillo (an Ecuadorian from the Serbian league, so why not somebody else you have never heard of from neighbouring Macedonia, Suzy?) on loan, Pienaar for £2.5m, Saha for £1.8m, Nash for free and Fellaini for €15m, ie roughly £12m at the time. Total £16.3m which leaves £3m give or take left over.

Anyway, whatever the numbers, we clearly had no spare cash at all despite good prize money from League finishes etc. So we reached a situation in 2008 where we have to sell to buy, hence no signings again this Summer bar loans and it will stay that way, in my opinion, until we have Kirkby sorted out one way or another and BK either sells up or more investment comes in. Lescott’s sale is the only way we will have any real money to spend this Summer.

I appreciate BK cannot tell the world we have no money, but I am bored with the circus, the lies and the bullshit coming from Everton. It’s ben going on since the Rooney Summer and that’s 5 years now of Fortress, Russian oligarch’s, watch this space, Robbie Savage debacles, Naughton snatched from our hands etc, etc.

My post is borne from utter frustration that despite the Club having record turnover the money is disappearing even quicker into he hands of grubby agents and our players who must average about £40k a week if you work out the wages from the Accounts.

Us fans worry ourselves silly, but what’s the point? We can only vote with our feet and that’s not so easy is it? May as well sit back and let it unfold in front of us... And yes, it is grubby, it is greed driven and it is ’disgusting’ to quote David Moyes and I make no apology for saying it again.

Anyway, Suzy, we are supposed to be on the same side so let’s agree to disagree if that’s the case and move on.

Yes, Tom just picked up the link myself, next question is. How long does it take before we see this guy in action. It was rumored that Tevez’s agent was at Goodison on Saturday. Is it possible that he also has links with Banega, I wonder.

I know Moyes comes in for some stick in his transfer dealings. However, if this latest report is correct regardless of how the player performs, you really have to hand it to Moyes. Two South Americans total value £34m and not a penny spent. Pretty impressive I’d say. Have to agree Tom, seems to be more than a few contradictions regarding Bysrtov which doesn’t bode well.
Karl Masters

It’s certainly a coup to get Banega, but it would also be very interesting to know what the fee would be next Summer if we want him to stay. Previously, we managed to ’steal’ the likes of Arteta and Pienaar for around £2.5m each by agreeing the fee up front. Can’t quite see that happening this time. Valencia are no mugs.

I suppose we have to accept that he could turn out to be a Veron... or, on the other hand, he could be a Tevez or Mascherano, where we are simply being used as a Shop Window, like West Ham were. Still, with no money to speak of at present, this is what we must accept, and as Gerry says, Banega and Jo could have cost £34m to get in the team in 2008 and yet we have them for loan fees only. If they flop we just ’return to sender’ :)

Hopefully of course they’ll be a huge success and an Evertonian will win the £200m jackpot on the Italian state lottery tomorrow an take over the Club!

Karl, didn’t you realise Suzy is in charge of Everton’s transfer policy? If you read her posts she knows who’s going and who’s coming in at some point over the next 3 or 4 years!!! She should have won the £60 million euromillions last night if her crystal ball is correct.

(Suzy, I’m having a luagh with you here so don’t swear at me again).

22   Posted 22/08/2009 at 11:38:46

Here is my reading of the transfer machinations following the signing of Banega; Lescott is going to leave for £22 mill/£18 mill + Dunne; one other centre back to sign - maybe Huth for around £5 mill; Bystrov deal is a no go (as if we would spend £9 mill on a fast, skilful wide player!) BUT we are looking at freebie Peter Lovenkrands.

So on Sept 1st we may well have brought in £20 milll and spent about.... £5mill with another £15 mill squirreled away to the BKKCB (Bill Kenwright Kirkby Cash Blackhole). The quesion is will Blue Bill even have the decency to wear a mask?!

So I got fed up with the Citeh manager's constant talk, wrote something of a rant and sent it off to Football 365. Appears it has made the mailbag (http://www.football365.com/mailbox/story/0,17033,8744_5505718,00.html) and I thought it might be of interest here.

Of course, it could well be unworkable but I'm fed up with clubs behaving horribly and getting away with it — time someone acted on the issue.

Just red Dave Whealen spouting off about Lescott saying we're in the wrong for wanting to keep him because he wants to leave so he can get more money! It's chairman like this who are ruining our game. Just because he runs a shit club who sells their better players... we ain't one of those clubs. He should support our stance over these kind of players for the good of the game or keep his pie-eating mouth shut.

Moyes is a buffoon. The guy is totally dumb. Let's face it, if Man Utd offered him a job and said they would double his wages, he would be off. Yet he whines like a big girl about Lescott wanting to leave. The guy is a nutter, and a hypocrite.

I seem to remember he left Preston to get more money managing at Everton and he let Rooney go without dribbling down his face. The guy has handled the whole situation really badly and made a scapegoat of Lescott, not to mention he looks a twat because, having said he wouldn't let him go, he now has to. What a melon!

Let's hope the news we are in talks with Steven Taylor means we are going to sign the guy. He's just what we need to replace Lescott. He's totally committed to his club and will be gutted to leave Newcastle but will give us 100%. And he's quality to go with. Things are looking up.

Kashema - Your whining like a big girl over Moyes leads me to the conclusion that you are a buffoon, a nutter and a melon.

31   Posted 22/08/2009 at 17:34:20

Kashema, I believe you are wrong. David Moyes is a man of principle. After defending himself against Rooney’s slurs, and winning substantial damages, he gave the money away to the Blue Blood trust.

DM is the sort of person who would honour a contract — unless EFC gave their blessing for him to talk to a third party.

Karl,

You are challenging the wrong person.

My numbers differ from yours. So, in the interest of fairness, and as common ground, i have chosen to use Toffewebs data.

You have AJ down as 13.8m
You have JM down at 5.5m
TW have AJ @ 10.5
TW have JM @ 4.75

This excludes Saha for which you have a very questionable 1.8m (an absolute mile out). In addition, the numbers that i am subject to are a lot less again. In your favour we paid more for Fellaini than the 12m you suggested (12.9 based on TW data)(?)

Either way (and most favourable to you) you are incorrect with your statement and your positive advance is actually a negative (which was the foundation of my challenge tool).

In addition i can guarantee you EFC payed now where near 1.8m for Saha. Where did you get that from?

Stupid stupid boy. Incorrect data is very dangerous and using it to prove a point is absolutely ridiculous. A weak attempt to win a debate. You chose the wrong person Karl.

’Agree to disagree’ - not when you state inaccurate information friend. I respect you opinions but dont try and baffle me wih with BS.

Enjoy the Burnley game. If we run into eachother then get your hand in your pocket. The exchange rate is far more favourable now than when i had a season ticket living in the US.
