Transfer Policy

Can anyone please explain to me what exactly is going on at EFC at the moment? The fans are informed that a loan deal has been agreed with Valencia for Ever Banega, EFC then apply for a work permit for the lad (which against all reason is granted). Meanwhile, Valencia play Banega in an Europa Cup match meaning he would be cup-tied if he wanted to play for EFC anyway (WTF?) and then apparently it is declared that the loan deal is yet to be agreed but that the club hope to tie it up in the next couple of days!!!

I mean really — what the fuck is going on? My cynical side suggests that this is all bollocks to keep the fans quiet... much like Obinna last year — you know, the club applies knowing that it will all go horribly wrong, but at least it keeps the fans quiet until September 1st.

But this is just pathetic — why doesn't the club just sell Lescott, buy Taylor (or whoever) and get on with things.

Hehe... there's always someone who cracks and starts blabbering. Robert, it's the Silly Season! Nothing makes any sense, least of all Everton's transfer dealings.

Just relax, go with the flow... all will become known in due course... or not. It's the "Everton Way"! I'm lying in the blazing summer sun, sipping margaritas and nibbling smoked salmon with avocado on toast... yummy! Add lime juice to taste...

Has Lescott really gone???

My paper this morning said we had given up and City have got him for £22M. Is it true he has cleared his locker? Is this why we are now being linked with other players coming in-- Huth, Taylor, the Russian winger (which unfortunately seems to be rubbish), Hutton, Bentley etc.

Nothing much seems to be on the Newcastle site about Taylor coming to us — what's going on? Where are we? Who am I? Where am I? Why are the Official Site so slow to pump out news, or are they playing it smart because of the money involving Lescott? What on earth is happening???

And now here’s another bummer into the bargain. The Manager of Valencia says he knows nothing about this loan deal for Banega and he’s not going anywhere.....What the hell is going on? (Happy pills on standby)

Christopher, where are you getting that news from? I’ve checked a few sites that are running the story that Valencia have no knowledge of such a deal. However, when I last viewed Valencia’s OS there was no evidence of any such comment to be found. As this is the official vehicle for news emanating from the club, I’m somewhat surprised by this. Though I wouldn’t necessarily dismiss this it does appear to be a bit strange.

Michael, you sound just like one of those toothless old crones in Macbeth!!!

Are you also expecting the Aussies to win at the Oval (so that Cahill will be spurred on to greater things)? Anyone who enjoys Margaritas has my deepest sympathy — go easy on the salt.

The clubs transfer policy at boardroom level is to fool the fans into believing they want progress. BK is currently laughing that, by selling Lescott for a lot more than he is worth, it will finance Moyes’ transfers this summer so he doesn't have to find any of his own cash to do deals.

I know what you are saying Gerry but isn't it the same as all these sites saying the deal for Lescott is done yet there is no news of it on our own OS? It's just the way things are going for us at the minute and in past transfer windows... I wouldn't put it past it that things have maybe gone tits up. Maybe Valencia have a slow OS like we do.

Perhaps I should learn to be more positive about things, although when supporting EFC I find it hard sometimes. We never do anything the easy way.

All very strange of course. The piece earlier this week in mercafutbol suggested that Unai Emery wanted to keep Banega as he had figured so positively in the preseason (Fernandes was surplus to requirements). Marca are saying today that Los Che - Valencia to you and me - know nothing of a loan to Everton.

There is no truth until papers have been signed, and possibly not after that. A Home Office work permit hearing to pull the wool over the eyes of the fans, however, does seem to be an extreme interpretation of the situation.

Don’t forget, that in the Spanish scheme of things, Emery is el entrenador, the trainer, or better, el technico - the first team coach. The club give him players to work with and expect him to get on with it. He may have more sway than that at Valencia, but that’s not usually how it works.

I doubt Moyes would have said we are getting him if we are not; he doesn’t like looking like a cunt. Didn’t the redshite sign some half-wit centre-half this week who announced on his own website he was signing for them, days before any deal was struck, only for his club to deny all knowledge... and look wot happened. Valencia are probably just trying to get a better deal now they know we have a work permit and some cash from Lescott sale.

Not quite sure why we would go through with getting a work permit for the Argentinian lad as an elaborate facade to fool the fans. Surely it just makes BK/DM look worse if we don’t sign him?

Also anything North of £20m plus the Dunney Monster from Shitteh is a good deal for me. Dunne is a far better player than when he left us and is a good pro. In some ways he reminds me of Unsworth. If we go and sing another CB as well then that will suit me.

The only thing we’ve learnt that is (presumably) accurate is that Michael has very poor taste in food.

I’m sick to fucking death of hearing about Lescott now, I hate Hughes and his The Arabian Sea-tee lot even more, fuck off Lescott if "double your money" is all you want... NO we don’t want Richard Dunne... and I would love for the season to be just about the lads performing their arses off and winning something, anything!!

And, yes, it would be nice if one transfer in was straightforward... it’s mind-boggling how all these rumours start!!

Christopher, you make a very valid point particularly were our very own club is concerned. As I said, I wouldn’t necessarily dismiss such reports. However, I did read somewhere in the course of checking out links on this that the site from which this story arose has something of a history for publishing controversial claims, hence I’m a somewhat skeptical. Let''s just hope the club move quickly to dispel the latest rumours but as you say I wouldn’t necessarily expect this of them any time soon.

So last week we had "agreed a deal with Valencia" that was contingent on a work permit. Now we have a work permit but it's use is contingent upon striking a deal with Valencia who claimed today that "Benega isn't going to Everton or any other club."

This to me seems a little reminiscent of last year's pursuit of Wagner Love on loan with view to a permanent deal. That one ended in disappointment when Moyes revealed he had been talking to people who "he thought" were representing the club whilst the club themselves say they never had any contact with Everton or desire to sell the guy.

Whether or not this is the same situation we're faced with now, you have to think Moyes is being a little hypocritical in relation to the Lescott saga. Hughes upset Moyes by saying he'd been talking to the people who "ultimately will make the decisions" Who were those people?

Most likely the same kind of agents that we spoke to about Wagner Love instead of getting on the blower to his team boss. They may also be the same people who we've been talking to about Banega because clearly his manager hasn't received a call from Moyes.

Keiran, I think they do things differently in Spain. Often the ’manager’ is just the head coach and is told to work with what he’s given. He doesn’t have a lot to do with the transfers. Look at Real Madrid, their head coach’s name was never mentioned in all of their deals this summer.

I imagine this Banega deal has been orchestrated by Jorabchin and Zahavi. They were called in by City to help push through the Lescott deal and suddenly from nowhere we’re trying to sign this fella. Valencia must still be in the shit financially and in order to keep hold of their better players like Villa, they’ll more than likely have to trim the squad of fringe players. I expect the Banega deal is being done over the Valencia manager’s head but that’s the way things are done in Spain.

I just saw on the tribal football website, that Valencia have denied having any contact with Everton or any other club with regards to Ever Banega. This sounds like Wagner Love all over again!!

You can strike another one of the list.

What is with this transfer season? Who have we got? 1 Brazilian and 2 Americans, I don't think that will push us in the top 4.

If Moyes is so desperate about players, why isn't he looking at frees like Appiah, Lucas Neill, Marko Pantellic, even Michael Ball.

As already mentioned, WTF is going on? Every other team just sign players... we sniff around... wait a bit... then sniff around again... then wait a bit... then say we might be interested... then wait a bit... then talk to them... then nothing????

It’s obvious what we need a right-hand side defensive mid and cover players, we’ve known this since last year, yet nothing's happened! I know we’re skint but surely not that skint?

Banega looks like he can control a ball... if we can get him — fucking get him! If not, get Manny back here.

One pissed-off with all this Bluenose.
Ohh, by the way, fuck off, Lescott — Jags is better anyway.

So Moyes thinks were signing Banega, but Valencia officials, Banega's agents and the player himself all deny any knowledge.

They deny any knowledge of any work-permit... the player would need to be present at any work permit application so this sounds very strange.
