Left Back

Well it now seems to be inevitable that Joleon Lescott will complete his move to Man City in the next few days. What seems to have been overlooked is the fact that we will have to add another left back to the squad before the transfer window shuts.
If Baines gets injured we are really in trouble and with Europa qualification almost guaranteed, could we expect him to play every game for Everton this season? I suppose Phil Neville could cover in emergencies but this is not an option most Evertonians would be happy with.
So suggestions on a left back?

It’s simple David, we will re-sign Nuno Valente or Alessandro Pistone. Otherwise we will just have to "Watch This Space", 24/7.

At this rate it will be Neville covering Central midfield, central defence, left back and right back. I know he’s got a good engine on him but that’s a hell of an ask.

I think Valente or Ball might be an option, and if we do sign one of them, or any other ’squad’ player, it will be over a week before we see them. No point paying the wages when they’re not yet needed.
At the same time, Seamus Coleman played there in pre-season, and looked decent by all accounts.

David, my biggest fear is that Howard gets injured. Nash is not PL standard! We need cover in goal as much as left back.
We got 4 players coming in this week though, so just watch this space...

Neville will probably be Howard's cover as well. We need players in .I've got a horrible feeling we won't get 4 players... I think we need 5

Belhadj of Pompey. Can play left back/left mid. If we sell Lescott for £24 mill and don’t sign at least 4 players with all that money will the Kenrightist’s (hello Doddy!) still, still defend him?

If available then Julio Arca would be a good choice with a similar style of play to Baines.
Also not very expensive. Just cos we get £24m for Lescott does not mean Green will let BK give it all to Moyes.

Joe Ledley is another one who can play Wing back. We’ve been linked many times, but Cardiff cannot play hard ball now as he only has a year left on his contract. I seem to recall they were desperate to get him to sign an extension. Does anybody know if he has?

Karl,
I dunno - he might look to wait until the end of the season (or at earliest January) as Cardiff have made a blinding start to the season.
Plus he isnt really a left-back, and whether he would come to us given that he wouldnt be an automatic first choice is something else to consider.

Here’s an idea - IF we are buying two centre halves - why not buy one that can cover left back too!

I have heard on the grapevine that a deal for steven warnock from blackburn is a done deal this week. This was in a way half confirmed by Allardyce last night on motd when he said he left warnock out of blackburns squad at sunderland. Maybe warnock has done a lescott? maybe he has had his head turned? maybe blackburn only pay 15k a week and we will give him 30k same as we give lescott 40k but city will pay whatever a player wants

Ciaran, they cost at least 24m ;-) John, it seems to be news almost everywhere that Warnock is Villa bound.
