Billy Backstabber and Elvis Presley

Ok this is not directly related to Everton's current affairs, but it shows the extent of Bill Kenwright's story-mongering/back-stabbing. I came across this story while looking up Tommy Steele:

"For many years it was thought that Elvis Presley had never set foot in England, and had only ever spent a few minutes on the tarmac at Prestwick Airport airport in Scotland where his military plane, en route to the United States after completing his military service in West Germany, stopped to re-fuel.

However, on 21 April 2008, in a (BBC Radio 2) interview with theatre impresario Bill Kenwright, it emerged that Presley, then 23, had in fact visited England for a day, after striking a phone conversation with Steele in London in 1958. According to Kenwright: "Elvis flew in for a day and Tommy showed him round London. He showed him the Houses of Parliament and spent the day with him".

Kenwright admitted on 22 April 2008 that he was not sure whether he should have told the story. Tommy Steele said: “It was two young men sharing the same love of their music. I swore never to divulge publicly what took place and I regret that it has found some way of getting into the light. I only hope he can forgive me." [from Wikipedia]
So we as fans have to entrust our club to a man that betrayed the King. If anyone has access to the Goodison Park PA system, please put on one of Elvis' finest songs before the next home game... "We can't go on together, with suspicious minds..."

Hmmm... I wonder if it was also Bill Kenwright who fomented that Adolf Hitler in Liverpool story from a few years back? He went to Goodison Park, saw Dixie Dean score, and became a closet Everton fan... Or is my memory paying tricks on me?

I also hear that Bill was doing a guided tour to Mark Chapman of Beatles homes.

These tours were very popular at the time because Bill was working 24/7 on them.

It is also rumoured that Kenwright had something to do with the design of the second Mersey tunnel.

He kept telling everybody to "Watch this space"

Ant Gird, I heard the interview and my immediate reaction was "Bullshit". How could a very popular British artist in Tommy Steele show the most famous (at that time) popular music singer in the world around London and not be seen by anyone? And, I may be wrong here, but the words you attribute to Steele were said by Kenwright PURPORTING to come from Steele. Not like BK to misrepresent the facts is it?

I’m pretty sure I heard Tommy Steele tell this story on Parkinson many years ago. Anyway this isn't going to solve our centre-back crisis!

Come off the fence, Chris, and tell us how you really feel.

The lying little twat would do well to follow the advice of one of Elvis’s songs :

’ A little less conversation a little more action please ’

So What? We all know BK can’t keep a secret or his mouth shut.

Or can he?

He’s never let it slip yet that he’s Green’s figurehead has he.

I think that, when it’s something fairly trivial like this, he lets his guard down (and who can have failed to cringe at his pathetic attempts with Jenny Seagrave on Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) but when it comes down to cold hard cash, his brain engages again and he regains his ruthless streak.

An enigma.

Speaking of Tommy Steele reminds me of Moyes transfer "War Chest".....Half A Sixpence.

Moyes’ war chest is significantly more than half a six pence Ray. At least £10m in fact. Go check the OS.

FFS, lighten up. It was a joke.

I’ve seen the OS. Show me him holding up the shirt and I’ll be a bit happier. Remember Riquelme?

Yeah, I remember Riquelme, Paul McCartney showed him around Liverpool. Not even Blue Bill knows that.

Meeting Kenwright truly was the King of Rock N Rolls finest hour.

All this talk of Bill and Elvis is so silly. Bill is not starstruck or obsessed with the King.
My Auntie Daisy works at Goodison as a tea lady .She often walks the corridors unnoticed with her tea trolly rattling ten to the dozen.
Last week she passed Kenwright’s open office door. .She couldn’t help hearing the following conversation between Bill and Davey

Davey – If I don’t get any money to spend from the Lescott deal your position will be untenable , you will have to go ?.
Bill - We’re caught in a trap. I can’t walk out..
Come on David
Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?
Davey – We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
Just then Lescott walked passed and , would you believe it , he was singing
as well.
I gave a letter to the postman,
he put it his sack.
But in early next morning,
he brought my letter back.
Meanwhile , back in Bill’s office.
Bill - Give me a few days, I’m working 24/7 to raise money.
Davey - Tomorrow will be too late,
it’s now or never.
I’m not very happy Bill , the fans are getting restless.
Bill - Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
Davey- While I’m here Bill , what’s the latest On Kirby.
Bill - If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true
It was then that Auntie Daisy entered Bill’s office to deliver his morning tea, singing to herself
Daisy - A little less conversation, a little more action please

Bill - Another Elvis fan ! Did I ever tell you that I met him once.
Me and Tommy Steele took him to see the Queen. Oh, Buckingham Palace is soooo grand. Well, there we all were , when the Queen said
Please sing me a song
“Once upon a time there was a little….”
Not you , him
“It’s a grand old team to …….”
Not you , HIM.
Well, Elvis sang his heart out for hours.
He actually stayed at the Palace for a month as a special guest…….
Hobnobs, my favourites.
Auntie Daisy swears every word is true.

Can I just say that the earlier post from Chris Leyland spelling out the name of the chairman is just gratuitously offensive and adds nothing to the debate
