Thank heavens, we've finally signed someone, it's official. A left sided winger with a good international pedigree and only 24 years of age.
It's on the official site so I'm half expecting both the player and Locomotiv Moscow to deny all knowledge of this! Seriously though I'm delighted as I've been down in the dumps since the Burnley game.
COYB!!

If we can now move Pienaar to the right, bring Banega in for the centre of the park which means moving Pip to right back that will do me.
Add to that two centre backs (Distin & Huth for £5 million each) and a left back as cover I will be happy.
That will give us plenty of options in the middle, 4 decent centre backs, options at full backs and add to that a fit Arteta and Yak. That for me is a decent squad which I did not expect 48 hours a go.
Although only 1 of those signings as been confirmed. The hoping continues...
4 Posted 25/08/2009 at 09:21:42
He doesn't collapse in a heap when tackled tries to stay on his feet and has a good finish. Hope he is as good as the video on you tube.
I also hope he isn't the last signing this week as the current crop of players look tired and that's worrying after just two league games. The squad needs freshening up.

Completely underwhelmed by this one...
Another attacking midfielder to add to the ever growing list of players vying for a single position in our team!
I mean - is it just me, or is it not bleedin obvious where the problems lie?

At 6ft 1, he is also a pretty big lad. The only minor concern is that his goal scoring ratio is only slightly better than Osman’s according to Wiki, and he has been playing in a weaker league. But if he is a genuine winger with the ability to supply, goal scoring will be forgiven. Welcome on board son, my word you better hit the ground running...

14 Posted 25/08/2009 at 10:25:05
He is a left footer, so its quite obvious that he will play left mid, and peanuts switching. This will leave Ossie on the bench. Surely that is reason enough to be happy?
15 Posted 25/08/2009 at 10:24:13
Incidentally if memory serves me correctly the first premier leage manager to show an interest in a certain Comrade Arshavin was David Moyes, but then he wouldn’t know a classy player when he saw one would he? That apart Ciaran I concur that we have urgent needs in defence — as well as most other parts of the side.

17 Posted 25/08/2009 at 10:41:19
Excuse me if I don’t get all frothy about this — I’d rather we filled the positions we actually need filled, rather than square pegs in round holes..
I would also guess that Pienaar’s game will suffer from moving to the right...
18 Posted 25/08/2009 at 06:47:29
He's listed as a winger / attacking mid, but knowing Moyes he'll probably be converted to a left back or left centerback before Christmas. So who need's Lescott?
COYB!
19 Posted 25/08/2009 at 08:40:46
As for our new recruit, I can't say a lot about him other than the quick bit of internet scouting that accompanies the slightest whiff of any potential transfer, but some early points:
1) Left-winger, who can also play through the middle, and judging by YouTube (!) on the right. Where would he fit in? Perhaps moving Peanuts to the centre or the right?
2) He's a big lad for a winger, 6ft.1, so at least offers us something else from set-pieces.
3) Good age, playing for a quality international side, captain for a major Russian side... all sounds promising.
4) Seems like he will give us someone who will actually run at people, and the early references to Kanchelskis take me back!
5) Also seems like I'm not going to see his debut on Sunday, as he's not going to join up 'til mid September!
6) The fact it's taken this long means we can't register him for the Europa League yet.
Just a few points, don't know what anyone else thinks but at least it could open the floodgates a bit in terms of new arrivals.

22 Posted 25/08/2009 at 08:46:11
He's a left sided player so where will he play? Will Moyes dare to put Pienaar on the right and DROP Osman !?
A 5 man midfield could look like this : Bilyaletdinov, Fellaini, Rodwell, Arteta, Pienaar.
Very attack-minded but I doubt an option Moyes would rarely go for. Still, a good line-up all the same.
23 Posted 25/08/2009 at 08:54:04
24 Posted 25/08/2009 at 07:36:09
Now we have a new left winger, could we slot Pienaar in the middle to give us more vreativity? Or will he be slotted to the right wing? Imagine a central midfield of Arteta & Pienaar backed up by Rodwell....... my mouth's watering already.
25 Posted 25/08/2009 at 13:37:06
It will be amazing having 2 quality wide players who can both cross a ball and both hit a shot!!! Hopefully we’ll sign a right-back now a central defender and anouther midfielder so that Nev can drop back to right back and we’ll have a quality right and left side instead of a quality left side with a weak right side!!
26 Posted 25/08/2009 at 13:41:13
Quite a claim.
27 Posted 25/08/2009 at 13:51:38
We need a playmaker and right winger - and we go an buy an attacking midfielder who can also play from the left...
If it was a prelude to buying a right winger and playing Billy in his prefered position behind the striker and in front of Arteta and Rodwell...then we’d be in great shape...
However I can’t see us buying a dedicated right winger or dropping Cahill and Fellaini to the bench..
Great to have signed a good player after all though...just not sure where it leaves our first eleven..
28 Posted 25/08/2009 at 13:58:46
Really chuffed !!
29 Posted 25/08/2009 at 13:59:43
That’s a fair point that I would agree with it - He’s a very good player... I simply don’t know where he fits in..if he’s played on the left then he’s out of position...
Oh aye, and kudos on the Russian speaking... impressive.
30 Posted 25/08/2009 at 14:00:01
being interviewed about our new signing Bily.Egor wahts his name said and I quote,I doubt wether Bily as they call him here in Russia is strong enough to play in your Premier League.he is quick but lacks physical presence, also he doesnt like to track back and defend at all.
I have never heard of Bily before so who knows what we have signed ?
.
31 Posted 25/08/2009 at 13:54:42
Don’t worry about where Pinarr will play. He prefers central midfield and I think that it will prove to be his best position. Look what happened when Arteta was moved off the wing. I predict that Pinaar will be a revelation in the centre. Moyes may move him to the right where he would be just as comfortable as he was on the left so no problem there.
Big worry, we are still being linked with Silvain Distin. Anybody who witnessed the Portsmouth v Liverpool game last season will know why I’m worried.
32 Posted 25/08/2009 at 14:07:39
33 Posted 25/08/2009 at 14:08:37
However I would be reluctant to break up his partnership with Baines though as all our decent play so far this year has come down the left, but is is nice to have the option.
Now all we need is a manager who is willing to be a bit creative/flexible with his selections...

’The Guzman must wait stands on departure Banega. Jonathan the Guzman in the emphatic interest of Valencia. That club want to attract is the Feyenoord-middenvelder however pace when it clarity about the departure of the Argentijn wild Boar Banega, reports Sportweek.
Banega would stand on the point on rent basis to verkassen to the English Everton. The Argentinean international sees that steps however do not sit. The middenvelder want to prove self by Valencia, after he came out the past season on rent basis for Atlético Madrid.

As for the ’he can’t tackle’ pronouncement - reminds me of the Rangers supporter I knew whose judgment was "lightweight" when acquired Arteta.

David Moyes has revealed the capture of Diniyar Bilyaletdinov was the result of an extended pursuit.
The Everton boss admitted he first tried to sign the 24-year-old Russian international in January.
Bilyaletdinov became Everton’s second major capture of the summer on Tuesday, joining from Lokomotiv Moscow for an undisclosed fee.
And Moyes, who compared the versatile left-sided player to 1980s Everton hero Kevin Sheedy, is excited by his latest acquistion.
“He’s a player who I have admired for a while now," the Blues boss told evertonfc.com. "I wanted to bring him to Everton in January but it just never worked out.
“He’s a left-sided player and he’s actually got a bit of Kevin Sheedy about him. He can also play on the right and can fill several roles in the team. (Russia coach) Guus Hiddink has even used him as an emergency left-back in the past.”
Bilyaletdinov follows on-loan Manchester City striker Jo into Goodison Park but Moyes remains hopeful of making further additions before the August 31 transfer deadline.
A star for his national side at last summer’s European Championships, the Blues boss says his newest signing will give Everton valuable added options in attack.
“He’s another young international player that we’ve brought in and he’s capable of creating goals and scoring goals," he said. "We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Bilyaletdinov will be ineligible for Thursday’s Europa League play-off second leg with Sigma Olomouc and he’s also unlikely to feature against Wigan at the weekend.
Russia are in the UK for a match against Wales in early September and the player is expected to meet his new teammates ahead of the Blues’ game against Fulham on 13 September.

J de G is the subject of strong interest from Valencia. The club, however, while considering J de G an attractive acquisition are awaiting clarification regarding the future of Argentine Ever Banega according to Sportsweek.
Banega was on the point of moving to British club Everton on a loan deal but the Argentine international would consider this a step down ( Cheeky twat! ....my words) The midfielder wants to prove himself at Valencia after spending last season on loan to Atletico Madrid.
The rest is about J de G and how Valencia do not have a transfer budget to make an offer. Seems like they want to sell Banega now to raise the money rather than loan him out (although it doesn’t actually say that in so many words it can be reasonably implied) Either way, it sounds like he doesn’t want to come to us. Surely if he had been any good Atletico would have put in an offer...or are they skint too?
64 Posted 25/08/2009 at 15:21:02
I haven’t been told much this week except NUFC were dragging their heels over Steven Taylor, due to a potential new owner wanting to hang on to him and sell others instead. I was told this morning we were in the driving seat to sign Distin and that Villa were trying to negotiate a deal for Warnock and were not as keen on Distin as suggested. However this afternoon I’ve been told Villa now want both players. Huth is also an option being considered, but apparently DM isn’t keen to pay £5million+ for Senderos when he has less than 12 months on his current deal and is clearly out of favour.

It’s all an evil scheme by that Kenwright, trying to profiteer from the letters on the back of the shirts (he’s a cunning so & so).
67 Posted 25/08/2009 at 15:52:29
68 Posted 25/08/2009 at 15:56:08
He was very non-commital and said he has him in the squad for the CC game, he hopes to have the same squad intact at the close of the transfer window, if this situation changes he is sure he will be informed by the powers that be.. (not verbatim but along those lines).
Optomistic to read much into it I know, but it was far from a rebuke.
As a side issue - I would like to see this lad Seamus Coleman given a chance against Sigma - surely it can only improve the current back 4?
69 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:16:41
70 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:16:26
Tony Marsh "...doubt wether Bily as they call him here in Russia is strong enough to play in your Premier League.he is quick but lacks physical presence, also he doesnt like to track back and defend at all. " I’m sure many people were saying the same thing when Pienaar joined us. Besides, he is a winger...how much ’physical presence’ does he require. Does Ashley Young have physical presence? Does Giggs have physical presence? On him tracking back, i’m sure Moyes will work on this as he has done successfullly with Arteta and Pienaar.
Alan Clarke said "..sign a player who won’t play for us until mid-September." He is going to miss one EPL game and then we have the International break. Hardly a disaster you make it out to be!
71 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:25:20
72 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:23:20
Besides he’s only played 12 games for Lyon, has 4 years left on his contract and is a massive unkown quantity. Another Alex Nyarko me thinks. On top of that we can’t afford to sign another player who will be missing for up to 6 weeks to go to the African Nations Cup.
Distin is an established premier league player who can also play left back and at 31 for a centre half is in his best years now.
73 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:17:37
Hopefully we might find him and Pienaar switching wings during games.
The centre back scenario seems a little odd if we are indeed after Distin. While i don’t think he’s quite the yard dog Torres made him look, the fact that he’s 32 and would reportedly cost around £5m seems an odd choice. Why not take a punt on Senderos who at least is younger. How old is Huth?
Also, this Banega debacle needs sorting one way or another. If he’s not interested as has been mentioned, then forget it and look elsewhere. Let’s not be chasing after him right up until the window closes only to find last minute it falls apart.
Finally, does anyone have any updates on what Judith Charmers (aka Rasmus Elm) is up to? Has he actually signed for anyone? Surely he’s not STILL deliberating who is worthy of his services?
74 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:34:49
"He’s even been used as an emergency left back"
No doubt he’ll be there for us in his first game with Baines switching to centre midfield or something equally as banana’s from the Moyes school of tactics
75 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:41:19
I’ll wager a fiver on that.

77 Posted 25/08/2009 at 17:07:12
I know it doesn’t mean much - who haven’t we been "linked" to?
But if that one were true it’d be a fantastic buy
78 Posted 25/08/2009 at 17:08:33
How can he be a left footer with a name like Billy?
79 Posted 25/08/2009 at 17:13:37
I’m holding my breath for Banega. As far as I’m concerned he is the ‘big one.’
Good news is that once Arteta gets back he will most likely resume his role in the middle. Hopefully alongside Banega!
80 Posted 25/08/2009 at 16:49:47
He’s a tall athletic player with good pace who’s good on the ball, got an eye for a pass, score’s a few goals and is good from set pieces. He is a bit on the slight, skinny side but don't be fooled, he isn't no lightweight, he’s got a bit of strength to him and he is going to make a difference to our midfield now and in the years to come.
He’s a very technically gifted player who will work well with the likes of Pienaar, Arteta, Fellaini, Cahill, Jo, Saha, Yakubu and maybe Banega if we sign him. With the likes of Arteta, Pienaar, Bilyaletdinov, Fellaini and maybe Banega in are midfield, there is no need to bypass it and play hoofball!.
It's important we make the right signings with regards to centre-backs and I'd be happy with one of either Gary Cahill, Wheater, Huth, Taylor or Shawcross at the right price and then possible Distin as he would provide cover at left back too.
81 Posted 25/08/2009 at 17:29:37
82 Posted 25/08/2009 at 17:43:42
Bilyaletdinov: Lokomotiv Moscow 185 (38) 20.5%
I’m not saying he’s as good as Arshavin; merely that if we’re going to dismiss the Russian league as being poor (so his playing experience isn’t worth as much) well it certainly doesn’t seem to have harmed Arshavin’s adaptation to the Prem.
Also, while the defending may not be Prem level, neither is the supply or the passing. It’s not as simple as putting a great player in a bad league and watch them score 200 goals -- if nobody can supply them anything then even the best player is somewhat limited.
You never know but I don’t think the league he comes from is more or less cause for alarm than the fact Banega is (perhaps) available. A guy who can’t make a go of it in a good league or a guy who does well in a poorer league -- not sure why one is more prized over the other as both have question marks.

Shite translation again but you get the idea.
’The Stuttgart offers 9 million by Banega The Valencia studies the offering by the Argentine midfield
player.
The future of Éver Banega in the Valencia seemed clear after so much the player as the coach Unai Emery they were declared mutual love, but the doubts after a good offering presented by the Stuttgart have appeared again to be done with the services of the Argentine midfield player.
The German assembly has offered nine million euro to the Valencia in exchange for Ever Banega. The ché paid 18 million by the Argentine two years ago, but the economic situation of the Valencian club does that itself be not seen with bad eyes this offering.
Emery and Fernando Gómez, sports director of the Valencia, they have met this Tuesday to value the situation and the technician has repeated its intention to include the player. In the next days the ché will give an offering to the Stuttgart.’
Fucking pissed about this, big time - like Jason said, this is the player we really wanted in our side!!!

96 Posted 26/08/2009 at 00:39:23
(1) He is not as dedicated as we think in the way he plans his transfer list... e.g. "right, we've got £22M in the bank now, let's see who we can buy with it... hmm, we need a winger. OK Mr Lokomotiv Moscow, how much for your international winger? £10M? Fine, we'll take him..."
or...
(2) He's a cunning fox who has a REAL transfer list of targets which none of the local papers/rumour mills really pick up. And he keeps it so secret that others don't beat us to the punch ala Naughton...
What I see is that Everton Football Club CAN complete transfers within a relatively short frame of time considering when the media actually pick up a sniff of these deals... but is this an indication of Moyes's clever ability to keep his REAL transfer targets under wraps? Or is it just a desperation signing stemming from the fact that we now have money.
One other thing to consider is that Bilyaletdinov is a winger. Were there any other wingers that we were being linked with in the past? How about Elm? If he really did come to Goodison for a tour and he himself apparently expressed some positivity towards our club, why didn't we sign him with the £22M from the Lescott deal? For those who say we will do so in the next few days, then I'd raise the question why Bilyaletdinov could be signed in two weeks (on top of that, requiring a work permit!) but we can't do the same for a young Swede who seems to have less problems in signing for us.
What I see is that all the potential transfer targets being bandied about earlier in the season... rarely if ever come true! (I concede Naughton as an exception, but consider the cases of Cana, Elm, Moutinho, Defour, Delph, Downing etc). I mentioned before that Moyes' transfers are usually "unexpected" or "out of the blue"...
So, is Moyes a genius or a duff on the transfer market?

This has a number of implications. Firstly, as he is a left winger, one would assume that Pienaar will move to the right hand side. Secondly, all the nay-sayers who said Moyes wouldn’t get to spend any of the Lescott money were clearly wrong. Finally, Tony Marsh, who stated that we would sign ’no-one of note’, has been proven full of shit yet again.
