Jutkiewicz on loan?

Comments (11)

I've just read on Motherwell's official site that our very own Lucas Jutkiewicz has joined John Ruddy there on loan. Comes as no surprise as the vast majority of Moyes's "ones for the future" don't seem to even make the grade in the reserves, let alone the league. Gosling a fluke maybe?

I guess there's a temptation to have greater expectation of these youngsters who are actively scouted and purchased as youngsters from other clubs but, in seven years, has Moyes had even one success with this policy? Gosling would be the first. Agard is another possibility... In reality, the fact that we paid to bring them in when they were presumably at least closer to making the grade, rather than bringing them up through the academy from various ages, should not mean that they stand any better chance than their peers. But it is so tempting to think that they will.

I know a Huddersfield Town player who played with him last year. Said he was blinding in training but in a match, he was blowing out of his arse after half an hour.

Good point....Vidarsson, Spencer and Lutkas were the expensive ones if I remember correctly...And to be honest I don’t think Gosling will get a first team spot long term (unless it’s at right back where we’ve yet to see him)...

Maybe the yout scouting needs a bit of investment in staff...

Mark,

A Huddersfield fan told me he had a big row with Lee Clark and didn't play again... do you know if that's true?

£400k on Jutkiewicz, £220k on Spencer, £700k on Anderson da Silva, £50k on Turner, £250k on Ruddy. Seems to me that the scouting system is something that this club seriously needs to be replacing (and thats not including the first team boo boos they make too, Krøldrup?). That's almost 2 mil on 4 players that may not make the grade. That to me seems like a lot of cash for a cash strapped club. while Man Utd are picking up talent like Macheda for free or Burnley with Eagles for less than we payed for all four...

Not that I’m aware of Jonathon - he just said he was amazing in training ... scoring from all over the park and running circles around defenders. He thought they had a real talent. But when it came to a match he could only last half an hour and then had to come off. In the end they gave up on him as it wasn’t getting any better.

The moral of this is that it is really really hard to make the grade; and, no matter how good you are at 16, the chances of becoming a Premier League players are slim.

It's not just Everton, look at Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs etc.

Players like Pennant, Samba, Taiwo, Sinclair have over the years been extremely hightly rated and cost clubs millions yet never made it. Chelsea spent £6 mil on 2 lads from leeds, who are now on loan to League 1 and Conference teams.

Also, how would you react if, to blood them in, Moyes threw on one of these players and then we lost?

Fact is, if a club signs someone at 16, a la Garbutt, nothing should be expected. It shouldn't be news; if he breaks into the team then its a plus.

Also, Macheda wasn’t free for Utd, he cost a lot in terms of paying agents and family. Also he’s shite, he will not become a top-class striker, one good goal, one defelected goal and the papers raved. But he is shit.

It would be nice to have lots of youngster coming through, but we have quite a few who appear decent. But it's expensive to buy lots of foreign teenagers, and for every 1 that makes it there are about 10 that fail.

If Macheda’s shit..then what the hell is Vaughan and Victor?

I certainly wouldn’t say a striker who can play football and is pacey is ...er..shít.

If you look at the red shite they have got 57 players on pro contracts. Around 25 are first team the rest are kids they take from places like Spain or Hungary. If they have 20 kids and say each one cost £250k then in total it’s £5million. If one out of 20 makes it to the first team, and a couple more get flogged to lower league teams they see it as worthwhile.

As Fran said kids can look like world beaters at academy level but don’t always make the grade at senior level. We have signed a few duds but Rooney, Jeffers, Ball, Dunne have all played in the PL and we have made a couple of quid as well.

I hear what you are saying Peter but all those you have mentioned were not bought but brought through the youth system.

This thread is crticising Moyes's forrays into buying the players of tomorrow.

You’re right Tony. I obviously hadn’t woke up properly when I read it.

Personally I dont think Moyes/Everton are doing anything any different to any other top club. Its very difficult to tell when a kid is 14 or 15 if he will go on to make it at the top level.

Alot of big clubs were after some of the youngsters we have signed so they must have looked good at some stage.

Would Moyes still be getting criticism on here if he wasnt signing any young players and leaving that potential risk to other clubs??
