Richard Dunne has been transferred from Manchester City to Aston Villa for £6 million pounds (six million????). At least that means that he won't be coming to us.

And Franny Jeffers has been transfer-listed by Sheffield Wednesday for head-buttting an opponent and being sent off in the Carling Cup against Port Vale.

Finally, to change the subject, after being tonked 5-0 and 4-1 by a Championship side, what are the odds that Wigan come good this weekend?

Doesn’t this actually mean we’ll get 5% of the Dunne fee so £300K? Or is this a rule for international deals only?

And I expect us to come good, not Wigan. We’ll win easily I reckon...

Wigan hammered Villa; I don't share your optimism.

This is going to be a tight season... the quality of teams below us seems to have caught up.

We need to get through the Wigan game with 3 points afterwards, anyway, anyhow! Then hopefully we will have these ’4 or maybe more’ signings and the season can start for us! The biggest risk was going out of Europe again so early, but it doesnt look like that will happen.

2 other (possible) targets look like they are on their way to other clubs, Rob Huth and Tuncay to Stoke for 11 million, both got prem experience and are internationals, Tuncay could have done a great job down the right hand side and filling upfront, and Huth is a rock in the middle, although a bit slow.
This could have major implications if Moyes wants Wheater, boro may not want to get rid of both center backs! Please dont leave it to the last min again Moyes.

I agree on the Boro players, they would be very good additions to the squad, especially Tuncay! Get in there Moyes!

Looks like Moyes is looking further afield for new recruits if the Luicio bid is anything to go on. It probably suggests that his looked at the domestic options and doesn’t like what he see’s.

As ever the media is always way off with our targets I’m guessing all 4 if they come will not be players we have been strongly linked with

Steve Taylor didn’t feature last night for skunks, nor was he on the bench. Telegraph rate it as an 8/10 for transfer liklihood. Make of that what you will

I agree that Tuncay would be a good shout but looks like we’ve missed the boat on that one

Hoping for a Defour out of the hat

Distan is to have a medical! Once Dunne agreed to join villa this pretty much paved the way that Distan was coming to us.

I bloody love Distin, always rated him highly, great repllacement for Klingon.

Faster, fitter and sronger than Klingon, fantastic signing for us. Our backline will bestronger than ever once Jags gets back, hope Taylor follows with a right back, although I could like with Neville at full back easily.

A genius response by Pat Nevin to Mark Hughes’ suggestion that Lescott was the best centre half in the Prem ; ’I’m not even sure he was the best defender at Everton! Jagielka (was rightly) the player of the year.

Spot on!! 24 million, the more you think about it, the sillier it sounds.

Wigan didn’t care about the Carling cup. They were good against Villa and desperately unlucky to get thumped by United.Sunday will be tougher than Burnley.

Thanks, Alex...a gem from Nevin

And take no notice of Ciarán...he would start an argument in an empty house

Firstly, It’s difficult but i’d like to take the high moral ground and wish Lescott all the best. I loved him playing for us and i have felt such disappointment when he wanted to leave but most importantly i have never suspected he’s given anything other than 100% when he played for us and we’ve made a small fortune on him.

Line drawn. I shall never boo him.

In terms of central defenders and the art of defending i think Jagielka has developed into a better one. Flexibility, distribution and goal threat Lescott wins hands down. That’s my assessment.

Distin will hopefully be a good signing and you would have to say is a quality replacement. I also agree that i hope/think Moyes has a younger "apprentice" signing in mind too. Other than that, a bit of cover in the full back positions and we’re looking like a good squad again. Has to be said though, that Gosling didn’t let anyone down tonight.

P.S. I did like the way Wallace and Baxter played the ball around tonight. They need time but are very promising.

I think we’ve had a lucky escape in avoiding signing Huth, at best cumbersome, at worse very injury-prone, and would have been a liability in a small squad like everton’s. As for signing a young apprentice, haven’t we just signed the german Mustaphi?
