James Vaughan

Just a quick one on Vaughan. In the People today, (via bbc gossip), it's saying Everton only want £3M for the lad.

I know he's terribly injury prone, and Moyes has other signings on his mind, but was wondering what the consensus was on Vaughan? Has he had his chance now?

I'm a great admirer of him, and it does just seem injuries that have him crocked. If that £3M would tilt the deal for someone say Bentley though, then, would that change your mind?

I’d take the 3million for Vaughan if it went towards paying Van Der Vaarts wages for the year Chris.

With no Vaughan on the bench at the expense of Agard and him not being listed as injured you can either see a move to the Skunks or possibly a part exchange for Shawcross on the cards...

Heitinga deal stalling on personal terms?
Banega stalled on them not wanting him to go on loan now?
Van der Vaart surely to stall on personal terms if Heitinga’s has (plus you can’t see him not wanting to go to a non Champs league team - unless of course it’s Man City of course).

So... Is he on his way?

Pity... I will be sad to see Vaughan go as I feel he has a lot of potential but he just isn’t going to get a run of games with Saha, Yakubu, Jo and Cahill all likely to be given the nod over him.

Quite frankly I could never see the reason for all the optimism and hype regarding Vaughan. True, he took over from Rooney as the game’s youngest ever goalscorer just about when we were all feeling low about Rooney’s departure.
One newspaper even had the headline (after his goal against Fulham) ’Who needs Rooney?’

A lot was invested in him by Evertonians on the basis of that. It was undeserved in my opinion. I have always perceived him as rather ordinary as a player and it would not surprise me if he has now been recognized as such at Finch Farm and is now on his way. Pity if that is the case but that’s how I see it.

At first I was a little sad to read that one of our most promising young players was being linked with a move to another club but then I thought about it and its not such a bad thing.

Amazingly James Vaughan made his goalscoring debut in 2005. At the time we all thought he was the next Rooney but its been 4 years since then and what exactly has he contributed in that time?

In 4 years Vaughan has started just 10 games and scored 7 goals. Now admittedly if he’d have played 10 and scored 7 in a season it would be great but 4 years!!!

This player has been claiming a more then decent pay cheque for 4 years and has only managed to score 7 goals.

I know injuries have played a massive part in that but thats not really an excuse. Even Andy van der Meyde contributed more to Everton over the last four years.

I have like Vaughan in the past but he’s 21 now and even though he’s apparently fit he’s not in the team. There has to be reason for that.

Maybe the injuries have robbed him of that extra pace he had. Or maybe Moyes has just decided that he’s not quite good enough for a Top 5 Premier League team.

He wasn’t even on the bench today so you have to assume he’s in Newcastle. Good luck to the lad I say but I fear he was just another Branch or Cadamarteri.

His leaving will give Agard and Baxter more chances.

Having just witnessed Jo perform like a cross between Paul Wilkinson & James McFadden, I for one fail to understand why Vaughan is seen as being further down the 1st team food chain than this Brazillian numpty. Any explanations from greater footballing brains than mine will be gratefully received.

Vaughany was at the game today, saw him arrive at the Park End. I’d like to see us keep him. I think he’s loads better than Anichebe, just needs a decent run IMHO.

Should only be allowed to leave on a temporary loan to gain match fitness and more experience.

Far too good to let go, this lad has it all, just needs to get match fit and back in he groove.

In short, do not sell!

Apart from becoming the Premier League’s youngest goalscorer for the last goal in a 4-0 win at Goodison against Palace (as memory serves me) I can’t remember anything else he has done for the club.

I’d be interested to know how many minutes he played last season - doubt it reached three figures. So the manager doesn’t believe in him even when fit

Good luck to a young Everton player, but first team Everton standard he isn’t.

I’ve always liked Vaughan and I hope that we don’t sell him. He was probably brought through a bit too early but he still has the potential. What he needs is a prolonged run at the first team, which getting him out on loan would be ideal. Probably should of gone out the last couple of years but injuries and the lack of numbers at the club wouldn’t of allowed it. I’d like to see him go out this season, then come back raring to go for next.

Well, the biggest complaint from the above posts is that he hasn’t done mcuh in four years but on the other hand he’s been injured (or simply not played) for most of that four years. No matter how (potentially) good or bad he is, he can’t do fuck all sat on the bench or rehab/medical attention.

One poster said he started 10 games and scored 7 goals... now over the period of time that’s not good but that’s not too bad a ratio for something with his injuries and lack of game time. Is it?

I would say loan him out for sure but don’t sell him, not yet anyway.
