So... where are we now?

Comments (17)

So we're 3 points behind Liverpool and Villa with a game in hand but more worryingly 9 points behind City and Spurs.

I've always said it's a marathon not a sprint but we made a real struggle of today and for me were not attack-minded enough against a side we should have beaten 4-0.

Add that to the reports that Moyes is having to BEG for the release of more money for players and the Heitinga deal having gone quiet in the way of Banega, I am starting to worry again that we are in more of a mess than first thought.

We have spent only £14 million reputedly of the net £20 million for Lescott and none of the supposed £10 million for all the new "exciting " players we were due to sign earlier. Let's just hope the players can "punch above their weight " again...

It's diabolical, Jay. The whole club is a shambles and Moyes doesn't seem to know his arse from his elbow. Osman yet again stinks the place out but he will stay in the side — no question about that. The awful way in which we play saddens me deeply. Wigan made us look second rate at times today and the win was very lucky indeed.

Spurs and Man City are not going to be as shite as some of our lot thought they would be. Villa are starting to hit form so that's the top 7 taken care of. We will be lucky to finish in the top 10 seeing as we will have 6 meaningless Uefa cup games to contend with and such a small squad to do it with.

I am worried but then again I always do worry about the future of the club. Some of our fans will now put all the mis-managment of the club behind them because we won a game but that win only serves to hide the truth for a while.

We are going nowhere and that twat Kenwright is more devious and slippery than even I thought possible. If we don't get at least 2 more players, our season is over...

Tony I agree with a lot you have said recently but to say Wigan made us look second rate at times is ridiculous.

Wigan were utter garbage.

Ok a very welcome 3 points, and it was great to see us playing with 11 men for the last 20 or so minutes.

I defy any of the Ossie defenders to say anything positive about him today..... hopefully that’s his last game for ages!!!!! Awful.

Tony get a fucking grip.

Kenwright took over a National radio station for two whole hours earlier this evening, to plead for some investment in his beloved Blues.....

OK, he forgot to say it ON AIR but the sentiment was there........

Watch this space!

We are still desperate for at least a couple of players. If Bily turns out to be worth a £10m left-winger, then we are just crying out for a right-winger.

Arteta and Rodwell are going to be excellent in the middle with Bily on the left and Pienaar can cover anywhere in midfield (Arteta to start with).

To be honest not sure who I’d want as a right-winger, just not keen on Bentley. Obviously Moyes likes his hard working and fully committed players (sometimes often difficult to get in a winger), which is exactly the opposite to Bentley.

OK we beat Sigma and Wigan we must be on the march. Let's see what happens at Fulham before we pop open the Champers, boys...

Tony - say something new FFS! We have been a total shambles about to fall into oblivion for at least the last three seasons according to you. We’re still here!

I agree we will have a fight on our hands this year, but your endless talking up of Man City and Spurs (and now Villa!!) is ridiculous. The only team in the Prem that is currently ’flying’ is Chelsea - everyone else even near the top has made pretty mixed starts. Villa fans are if anything more unhappy than ours. MON hasn’t replaced Laursen and Barry and they know it. Their purse strings are tight too (but don’t let facts get in the way of your doom and gloom).

We have replaced Lescott with at least as good a defender in Distin, and just bought an experienced international (who only played today for 2 minutes for the obvious reason that he’s only just arrived in the country and hardly trained with us yet). Hopefully we will still get a couple more quality additions. Rodwell looks utter class this season. All is not despair!

Of course, things are far from perfect. We are financially strapped as we all know. Fortunately due to the world recession and banks witholding credit, we are not so alone now (notice Liverpool and Man U not spending their Alonso and Ronaldo monies?).

Our season is far from "over", so don’t be silly.

Tony Marsh will not be happy until Everton are crowned Premier League champions, FA Cup winners and Champions League winners all in the same season.

Although even then he won’t like the way we play, probably say we only won cos the rest of the teams underperformed.

I hope Bily works out.Unfortunately the delay in making signings means we buy who we can get rather than who we need.Same as last season with Fellaini. The last two summers have demonstrated just how badly run the club is.

Tony Marsh, we dominated Wigan today and played pretty well, we missed some fairly easy chances and Pollitt made at least two good saves, otherwise it would have been a big win. Some of our passing moves were beautiful, particularly the one that started with Rodwell’s ’Cruyff’ turn, went through Osman (Yes, Osman) and ended up with Cahill setting up Saha only to be denied with Pollitt from close range. That couldn’t have been any better if it was Brazil or Barcelona.

Yes, I know we got jittery and nervous at times, but that’s a confidence thing, and in fact we often passed the ball in a nice and composed way. Please don’t turn a blind eye to the positives, there’s a lot to be pleased with today.

Tony Marsh, If the Europa League games are meaningless then what the hell is the point in actually trying to qualify for the competition? I’m quite looking forward to see how we get on against Benfica and AEK Athens.

Being in the Europa League raises the club's profile, which brings in bigger sponsors, players wanting to play in Europe. And hopefully if we win it.... people who will invest in the club.

We have only won the European Cup Winners Cup in our entire history. I’d love us to win the Europa League.

Jay, Don’t worry, be happy... to answer your question, we are still 3 points behind Liverpool with a game in hand. I thought the team played quite well today after the bruising they took in the first half...

By the way, I believe Moyes was correct in bringing "Bily" on for the few final minutes... and both Fellaini and Hibbert played well. In conclusion, I believe the club over the past few years has been doing quite well and far from a shambles, as some of the posters suggest.

Holy crappola... Tony, I defend your right to post on here and this is the shit you come up with? Have you been on the sauce or what? Anyone who comes out with the mindless stupidity of "our season is over" any time before May needs taking out and shooting. It’s such a pathetic, idiotic piece of inanity... I know you’re trying to make your usual point but that is NOT the way to do it. For fuck’s sake, try to be at least moderately sensible with your comments... or better still — don’t post if you’ve been drinking!

Michael, your post arguing against Tony is like talking to a block wall. Once he posts in a thread, that said thread instantly turns into anti/pro Tony Marsh debate. He obviously gets you hits for your website so fair play to him in that respect but it really has become tediously boring reading the same rant over and over again. I tend to avoid his articles now as all they become is a long list of one person after another saying "Tony catch a grip, how can you say....." or "It’s not often I agree with Tony Marsh but this time.......".

To sum yesterday’s game up:

- We dominated possession
- We created the best scoring opportunities (MOTD2 highlights showed the Wigan goal, Gomez hitting the post and the late counter attack - the rest was all our attacks)
- We brought on 2 subs who really changed the game for us
- We gave Bily a short but sweet taste of our fantastic fans and a late winning Goodsion atmosphere. I bet he can’t wait to get back from international duty to get stuck in proper.

After 2 defeats it was essential to get the first 3 points on the board. I’m actually quite happy with the manner of the victory - last minute penalties etc - gives us feel that things have actually turned back in our favour again.

And Tony no doubt that when Wigan scored you were rubbing your hands and licking your lips, chomping at the bit to get back to your computer to piece together another Marshie super-rant. Unfortunately for you we scored twice.

I actually think Tony Marsh is having a break down before our very eyes. I’m in agreement with a lot of the points he makes about how shambolic our club is but he’s now not even buoyed by a win. I know a win shouldn’t paper over the deep cracks that run through our club but Tony’s negativity towards all things Everton is boiling over.

Tony, since your hope of us losing to Arsenal came true, it still comes across like you’re wishing Everton to fail just so you can be proven right about Kenwright and Moyes. Did you manage a cheer when Baines scored the winner or were you disappointed because then you’ve have had more weight to your argument had we not won?

Our season has just begun.

Regarding Heitinga, Please don't get you're hopes up, this fella is rightly being critisised here for the amount of mistakes he makes during a match be it for Ajax, Holland or Atletico. There are even letters in the Press warning Everton not to sign him. My opinion... he 's no better than Hibbert. Buyer beware!!!
