Éver Banega

We just dont get the luck as much as Liverpool, especially in transfers. For example, we were getting Banega from Valencia, he had not played for them all last season (loaned out to Atletico Madrid), we got him a work permit pending his loan move to us. Then the new coach of Valencia was short on players and used him as a sub in a Europa League game last week...

Today he started in the Valencia v Seville game, and guess what! You guessed it — he was brilliant. Just the player we need, linking the defence to attack. He was the focal point of the team, great control, fantastic passer with both feet who set up both goals in a 2-0 win. In fact, it was like watching Arteta, but this lad has better distribution... what a Bastard!

Of all the signings in all the world, this is the one I hope comes into fruition. We should break the bank for him if we can’t loan him.

If only we could add Banega, Heitinga, and Bentley before the window closes then we’d not only have a very good squad but we’d be able to field a team that plays exciting, creative, attacking football.

We should place a bid for Manuel Fernandes. Add a bit of drama before deadline day.

Yep, he was terrific. The Valencia fans would string someone up if he was allowed to leave after that performance.
We’ve missed the boat again, but dont put it down to bad luck, a determined bid to buy him outright last week would have seen him playing at GP yesterday.

I think Manny is still crocked Jason, struggling to come back from the broken leg. That’s part of the reason Los Che are hanging onto Banega.

Paul,
I was going to post a very similar article only you beat me to it. Sevilla are one of Spain’s top sides and he totally dominated midfield. He came deep to demand the ball from his defenders, which if we had in our team it would help eradicate the hoofing. He also dribbled round 3 men then played a lovely outside of the boot through ball straight into the stride of the second goal-scorer.

I don’t think its fair to blame the club on this one though. We had obviously had a loan deal agreed or we wouldn’t have proceeded in obtaining a work permit. The circumstances at Valencia changed rather than at Goodison hence the stalling and now the unlikelihood of it going ahead.

If we had made a bid for him instead of the usual begging bowl approach he would have been playing yesterday. For us.

What I would love somebody to clarify for me is WHY the fuck Moyes said "Banega's coming on loan for a year, if he's good we'll keep him". I read this comment on teletext a couple of weeks ago. Why the fuck do Everton always announce players way before a deal has been agreed???

He was never coming. It was just a ruse to settle the discontented masses.
I sent a post in here soon after it was announced in talks to say just that and it wasn’t publshed, now we understand he had never heared of us. Makes no difference how good he played for Valencia.

That’s rubbish Nick, surely the discontented masses are now even more discontented?

I didn’t say it worked... its been done too many times before for the masses to give a dam about ’talks’. Lets see signings with the scarf above their heads.

Yeah, I have to say, my heart sank last night watching the Valencia Sevilla match....

Benega’s display was excellent. Controlled the midfield and created the 2 goals. With him playing that well and the injury to Fernandes, Valencia will not let him go..... never mind on loan.

Their financial problems have gotten a bit better recently with a fresh cash injection from a more shares being sold I think it was, so they are not as desperate for cash as they were a few weeks ago...

Saying that, I’m sure a bid that they couldn’t refuse would seal the deal, but we all know we don’t have 10 million lying around just for one player...

Apparently Banega wants the move, he wants out of Valencia and they want someone in to replace him but are struggling to sign their targets due to financial troubles?! But I agree, he looked class yesterday, didn't waste a ball, linked defence and attack, always got involved and wanted the ball and had an hand in both goals. It's a shame it looks like we've missed the boat on this one as he was definitely the type of player we needed in the holding role, he’s absolute quality. He would of worked well with the likes of Arteta, Pienaar, Bily, Rodwell, Fellaini.

Rob the other thing is with that comment from Moyes is, it’s hardly going to make an impression on Banega. "If he’s any good, we’ll keep him." It wouldn’t make me too keen to go to play for that club if the manager doesn’t actually know if you’re any good or not.

This whole deal has never seemed right. Why does Moyes want a player he doesn’t know a lot about? If he really rated him and done his homework, he’d just bid outright for him instead of fucking about with loans. Although with a loan deal we don’t lose any money, it still seems like Moyes was in a panic with this one. He normally likes players scouted and looked at several times but he’s now just taking a punt on someone he knows nothing about.

Dave Wilson, have you paid that money to charity yet? I’ve read a few other forums and the Joey Barton rumour has reignited! A few people I sit near at the match also seemed to think it might happen.

I see Castillo has joined wolves on loan for the season. I wonder will he be given a chance to show what he can do..

I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m starting to get a bit worried about the Johnny Heitinga deal coming off. If he’s on more money at AM why would he come to us for less, especially with the 50 % tax situation thats coming in next year. They are also in the Champions League, it just dosn’t make sense to me.

It will be a real blow if we don’t get him. I feel Moyes has hung his hat on this one because it would solve a number of problems. He would probably go in at right back but would be excellent cover for the two centre backs while we are waiting to get the Jag back. I don’t fancy another specialist centre back coming in because that would make four when the Jag returns and keeping them all happy would be a problem and a waste.

Alan

To be honest I havent mate, I forgot, but I’m buying some Raffle tickets for RNIB draw so I’ll open the envelope back up and make the cheque out for a fiver more than the value of the tickets. I said he’d be here before the season started so I was wrong whatever happens now.
Your right though, it really wont go away, the latest I heard is the club want to go ahead but really fear a backlash from the fans, Maybe its been leaked to test the water ? who knows ?
We all will by midnight tomorrow

Wrong thread but rather than start a new one......

A mate txt earlier and said he’d read a quote attributed to Heitinger, saying he doesn’t want to leave Athletico!

My mate said he’d read it on another EFC fan site where they’re quoting a Dutch website.

I haven’t found it or read it, but if that is the case then for fuck sake let’s hope Moyes has other targets lined up.

Also, the same site (ToffeeTalk) had a post saying Moyes was asked outright about the David Bentley rumours, and replied that he didn’t like to talk about other teams players. Compare that to his quickfire reply about us being linked with the other Russian winger Bystrov, where he categorically denied it as rubbish.

Sorry about all the above being a bit vague. Fingers crossed the Heitinger deal does go ahead. (maybe Bentley on loan too?)

Lionel, I think the article your friend was talking about is the following:

http://www.sportweek.nl/voetbal/108858/John_Heitinga_Ik_wil_bij_Atletico_Madrid_blijven

a basic google translation does indcate that Heitinga wants to stay in madrid, and that he believes that his selection against Malaga does justify this.

With less that 24 hours to go before the window shuts, Moyes has said he would be dissapointed if he didn't get at least two new faces in.

This week we have been linked with Johnny Heitinga (who is likely to be one), Martin Petrov, David Bentley, Rafael Van der Vaat and Ever Banega. Who do you think we will get? Any last minute rumours?
