Defensive Heit...
Comments (57)
Sky Sports News are confirming the acceptance of a £5million bid for Dutchman Johnny Heitinga. For me, this is an exciting one given that whilst I'm not entirely a card-carrying member of the Hibbert Hater's Club, I feel, like most, that we do need an addition of quality in that area.
At 25 years old, the boy has extensive international experience for Holland, Ajax and Atletico Madrid. This could prove useful in the Europa League, to say nothing of sparing Hibbo the ordeal of going up against Sky 4 teams — Chelsea a notable example!!
My concern, however is why Los Colchoneros are willing to part with him: Is he injury-prone? Bad dressing room influence? (We've all heard about Dutch National team spirit!!) Or simply not up to much as a player? I would greatly welcome the thoughts of better-informed "ToffeeWebbers" on this kid...

Is he injury prone? Is he a bad dressing room influence?
Why can’t he just be a good player who wants to play in the best league in the world?
3 Posted 31/08/2009 at 21:03:37
Also, I believe I’ve heard it reported that Heitinga makes significantly more than anyone else currently on our squad.
4 Posted 31/08/2009 at 21:00:08
Would be a great signing, and I hope a deal can be reached but I shalln’t get too excited.
5 Posted 31/08/2009 at 21:09:12
Love to get both , but somehow I can't see it happening.
6 Posted 31/08/2009 at 21:06:30
Beggers and choosers springs to mind, Moyes always pulls something out of the hat at the last minute, this season I just hope and I mean HOPE it is Hibbo’s replacement.Good squad player but that is that, shocking again this weekend.
I know we have another big signing in the bag...come on boys and girls..isnt this what we are used to!!!?

A case of lost in translation or was this written before Heitinger’s comment?

They also claim we have moved fror Krancjar (hope that’s true) whilst apparently Celtic are bracing themselves for an Everton bid for Scott Brown. Moyes is also supposedly determined to get Banega and has offered Hibbo and Fellaini in a straight swap. Ok, I made that last one up! :)
13 Posted 31/08/2009 at 23:25:37
Perhaps, though if he does come surely that is a huge feather in the cap for Moyes? After all, Heitinga is a regular international for one of the better European sides, was on huge money, was in the CL and had a regular starting place at Atletico. To get him for £5M during this transfer window (ie: less than Naughton, a quarter of Lescott, less than Turner et al) would be fantastic business.
That said, if the deal falls through we should definitely go for the player who Atletico were after in the first place — the mighty Rod Fanni.

Looking forward to the winter transfer window...

So, international clubs can no longer sign players but they can still sell/loan players to British clubs until 5pm today because of our extended deadline.

Heitinga wil in Spanje blijven Van onze Telesportredactie
My opinion... he's no better than Hibbert.

Perhaps the lure of a lower wage packet has finally turned his head.
21 Posted 01/09/2009 at 08:16:57
In any event I would be happy to stick with Hibbert and Neville and lump all the cash we have into a RW and get real quality now rather than 2 half quality players....
22 Posted 01/09/2009 at 08:25:40
We’ll then have to read Moyes’s program notes about how hard he’s tried to sign players but it’s an over-inflated market at the moment that makes it very difficult to bring players in. Moyes will also say how pleased he is with the squad and we’ve still got 3 new signings any way in Arteta, Yakubu and Jagielka.
Meanwhile we’ll all be left debating how much money Moyes will be given to spend in January especially after selling Lescott and the approximate £10 million left over from this sale. The reality will be that Kenwright will have magically made that money disappear.
Please Everton, prove me wrong.

I’ll get me straightjacket.....

Anybody who would like to add fuel to this then please do...
31 Posted 01/09/2009 at 10:48:57
It couldn’t be turning out better for Green and Earl could it? Their Spurs get all the players we should be getting, like Naughton and Krancjar, while we make a tidy surplus on transfers (we made a small one in 2008 too) for them to set aside for DK where they get rich and ride off into the sunset with us stuck in Kirkby. And BK is pretty much at their mercy....
32 Posted 01/09/2009 at 10:58:14
I say nearly, as I’ll wager you haven’t been peppering Van Der Vaart’s e-mail too?
I’ll continue my life at 5pm, honest.
33 Posted 01/09/2009 at 11:03:29
Tell you what: You keep stalking Van der Vaart & Heitinga, and I’ll start hounding Riquelme until he takes out a restraining order against me!!!
34 Posted 01/09/2009 at 11:13:56
The scary thing is, between us, we’re probably doing more than Kenwright.

36 Posted 01/09/2009 at 11:54:56
Also, we need some decent creativity in midfield as well as a decent R/B and cover for Bainesy, as I for one am pissed off with the hoofball and completely by passing our midfield. Rodwell is coming along a treat but we can’t just solely rely on him until Arteta comes back. Don’t know when Micky boy is due back, but we can’t just sit back and do fuck all, especially with all Billy Bullshitters money burning a hole in Moyes pocket from the sale of Lescott.
I know, I know.....!!!! It's finding the quality that’s the problem, but they’ve have all fucking summer to sort that out, and here we are pissing about again. Not good enough in my book.
Come on EFC, get a grip and show some ambition!!

It is a very ’Everton thing’ to be RUSHING to buy a player who, in his last game was awarded 0/10.

---------------------------------------------
Valencia have teed things up very nicely, agree a loan, get agreement from Banega, get his work permit approved, then renage on the deal.
At the last minute on deadline day, reiterate publicly that he won't be going out on "loan" — but let it slip that he is available to buy if you have the dosh! Puts pressure on Everton to pay over the odds to satisy the fans for a player who is a gamble.
I personally feel we should do it! They have done me up like a kipper as well.
We could learn a thing or two about deals from Valencia — remember Fernandes’ last minute turn around — watch this space on this one!
------------------------------------
Sounds about right doesn’t it. I’ve been saying all along that leaving things to the last minute makes it a sellers market and think this could be born out.
Could we be seeing "Everton break club transfer record for Banega...." in the next 90 mins?
Personally I hope not — from what I can see he’s mustard but not right enough for what we really need.

Heitinga is primarily a centre-half but is very comfortable at right-back he is a decent defender but not the standard of Jagielka,Distin and Yobo but his ability to play in every defensive role (including CDM) comfortably may be why Moyes is chasing him.
