Tribunal process in deciding fees

Comments (4)

Just read that the football tribunal has set the fee we should pay Leeds for Luke Garbutt at an initial £600k which could rise to £1.5M! This seems substantially higher than the reported £200k that we offered. I'm wondering how the tribunal actually decides on the eventual compensation fee to be paid?

Does the tribunal have any guideline with which they decide the fee? For example, since he's represented the country before, does his fee go higher by "x" amount?? I would be interested to know if anyone has any insight into this process.

I think we paid about £1m for Jukebox and £1.5m for Dan Gosling who were both 17, signed from League 1 and Championship teams. So to get a 16 year old England U17 captain at the price quoted looks a decent bit of business, and, if this lad is as good he seems to be, then £600k plus add ons is small fry.

Has it gone up again, I thought it was just rising to the cool million?

Seems to me that 95% of promising teenagers never make the grade.

Rooney, Osman, Hibbert, Rowell & Baxter are certainly in the minority.

I bet most of us hoped Nick Chadwick, Steven Schumacher, Peter Clarke, Paul Hopkins, Mark Hughes, Bjarni Vidarsson, Scott Spencer, Lee Molyneux and John Paul Kissock had big futures at Everton.

How this tribunal can guess the value of Luke Garbutt is beyond me.

Sounds like a promising prospect but then so did all the others I listed.

Seems perfectly fair to be honest. And if he triggers any of the clauses regarding payment in future i.e. England caps then surely he will already be worth a lot more than £2m+ 20% seems fine too, seeing as we stole him from another club illegally!
