The one that got away?

Given how we have performed so far, and bearing in mind the players qualification (or non-qualification) to play in the Europa Cup, which player do you think we would have benefitted from most of those that we were linked with prior to Sept 1?
I think we would have been extremely happy if we could have bagged Banega. He looked real class against Sevilla and slotted into midfield alongside Arteta I think we could have had a diamond and a real touch of quality.
What about Naughton, Van der Vaart, Huth, Wheater, Hutton, Delph??? No, not in the same league as Banega. We will finish 2 places lower without him, but I will still settle for seventh??!!

2. Kaka. Not sure where he would fit into the side though.
3. Ibrahimovic. Don’t really need a striker with pace, good in the air and with the ball at his feet.
4. Albiol. Didn’t need a class centre half this year.
5. Diego, Felipe Melo, Maxwell, Huntelaar, Sneijder..... Jesus the list goes on.......
Who gives a shite. We have got what we have got.
We’d be a far better team now, and we probably would’ve spent the Fellaini money elsewhere...
I still remember the Arsenal game where fernandes dominated the midfield. : ) I know he has had his critics but personally I think he was one of the best players ever to play here.
Out of him and Neville, Osman, Cahill, Fellaini etc — I know who I would rather have in centre midfield! — Fernandes.
Only joking I’d have been delighted to see Cana sign for us to get Neville out of midfield. Also I think Subotic would have been an excellent replacement for lezza.
7th?? Are you mad??
There is a similar theme here. Creative midfielders. A player that can make something out of nothing and win any game.
The reason we are linked to these players, is that we are desperate for one!
We have Arteta, but it’s taken years to get him into his rightful position, and now he’s out injured for ages. Pienaar is similar, but again out on the wing, and inconsistent enough to think that is not his best position.
We have a squad full of hard working players. We have defensive midfielders, Neville and Rodwell. We have midfielders who can score goals, Cahill and Fellaini. Our wingers are hard working. Our most creative player at the moment is probably a left-back, Baines!
We need a playmaker, a player that can make a team tick, a player like Arteta (that is fit and able to play).
This player is even more important in a five man midfield. There is only so much a hard-working team can do and Everton have just about reached that limit. We need some class in the centre of the pitch controlling matters.
Come on, Bill, get that wallet out and get us that star player that will make us into a top 4 side.

Really, by that comment I assume your about the same age as young Ciaran.
We can't rely on players' versatility — we need cover. A left-back in case (god forbid) anything happens to Baines; we are OK at centre-back and right-back... for now! And up front we have the quality to contend with any club.
But midfield in my opinion needs a bit of "tweaking". Pienaar, Osman, Cahill, Bilyaletdinov and Arteta are all attacking midfielders; we need an out-and-out left winger and a right winger (Bentley?) and we need centre-mid.
We have defensive mids: Neville, Rodwell, Fellaini... but I'm talking a real centre-mid. Moyes was looking at Ever Banega from Valencia who would be a dream come true addition to our blue army...
But I say....
BRING BACK MANNY FERNANDES!!!!

Arteta really shone alongside Neville who was happy to sit in front of the back four, break up play and play a simple pass. While Neville would be a safe bet alongside Arteta, I’m looking forward to see Rodwell play that role.
To answer your question I’d go for Eljero Elia. a young Dutch winger once linked in the Sunday papers. You may have seen him come on and bag against Scotland the other night. Rapid quick, direct and skillful he’s the kind of player that would have offered something different and made our 4-5-1 look like a 4-3-3.
That said, I’m looking forward to seeing Bily in action.
