Fulham: No Saha

Comments (112)

Saha is out this afternoon

Jo or Yak to start? What do you reckon? I’d quite like to see Cahill up front with a team of

Howard
Heitinga Yobo Distin Baines
Neville
Bily Rodwell Osman Pienaar
Cahill

Yeah I’m looking forward to seeing a bit of that Bily too, Karl.

Not sure we’ll see Cahill as a lone striker though. Maybe up top with Fellaini (in place of Osman) ... but even then.

Don’t know how close the Yak is to full fitness (given that he’s never been that fit probably not too far!) but I can’t wait till he’s back in the starting 11. We’ve missed his strength and ability to bully defenders.

I’m interested to see whether Rodwell keeps his place when some of the big names force their way back in. His performances certainly warrant it but I wonder whether caution will prevail over him?

Yea, I quite look the like of that team Karl, not really convinced in Jo especially away from home and if needed think Fellaini and the Yak could be brought on last 25-30 mins if need a goal.

Anyone know what's wrong with Vaughan? Is he injured or out of favour or even going out on loan??

No great suprises for the starting line up. Interesting to see vaughan is back considering recent speculation, particularly on this site. Good to see the Yak on the bench.

By my reckoning the bench has £42 million sat on it. And that’s not including Vaughan or Nash. Not bad!!

I’m sure there’ll still be those who moan about our lack of strength in depth mind. Even though we’ve got Arteta, Jagielka, Saha, and Anichebe to come back. No pleasing some!

Ah... That makes sense Moyes... Rather than playing two of your exciting new signings, both full international pedigree with quality, world cup bound national sides... Why not instead opt for two crocks of useless shite that will never hear their names mentioned in the same sentence as the word "international" in a million fucking years. Genius!

Why are people expecting the new 2 players to play after only 2 days training. They need to understand how we play, they need to see how we play and this was never going to happen in 2 days !!!

We’ll see the 3 players starting together either against Blacburn next Sat or more probably against Hull in League Cup.

Don’t get me wrong, I was at Wembley and saw what everyone else saw. Hibbert and Osman wouldn’t get in my first team either — although I certainly wouldn’t chastise them in the same way others do.

I just think Mike's comment was spot on. They need more than 2 days. Hopefully, by the time we visit Hull, they’ll be fully integrated.

Slot in just fine?

Into a new team, a new language (potentially), a new formation and a new league? Not expecting much, are you?

What if they don’t? Their confidence would be shagged, they’d look useless and be derided by some sections of our support who already hail them as some sort of footballing saviours. Moyes would then be attacked for buying "shite". Case in point; Per Kroldrup.

As much as I hate to admit seeing our right hand side being Hibbert and Osman yet again, Moyes has the right idea in easing them in - and I think he knows a little bit more about his players and football management in general than any of us here.

In the meantime the back four look solid.

Jo looks dangerous if when in a one on one situation against the Fulham defenders.

Not sure that Murphy will last the match unless he stops kicking people!

Osman is doing his defensive duties well on the right hand side. Perhaps pressure on his place is having an effect

All AJ really offers is speed. And you put a speedster like Yobo on him and you’ve not got much to worry about - as long as Joey keeps up the concentration.

Not really sure what Zamora offers. Glad we never bought when he was at Brighton and a lot of fans wanted us to go for him. Fortunately he went to Spurs at the time.

Jo is better than either of them, but his first touch remains a worry. However he is mobile, can run at defenders and can head the ball. I’d like to see Cahill more involved in the build ups. Obviously he has made a major contribution by scoring, but in other areas he has been a bit subdued.

Things I learned from today’s game:

1 - Moyes seems to think Heitinga can play in midfield
2 - Heitinga appears to be just as bad as Jagielka in a midfield role.
3 - Heitinga should never be used in midfield again.

Things I already knew:

4 - Moyes refuses to make attacking substitutions even when losing
5 - Moyes is not a risk taker
6 - Moyes prefers to let new signings get used to their surroundings before giving them a game ... even if we are losing and the new signings could change the game.

Things I hope we address before the next league game:

7 - Start with Bily on at centre mid alongside Rodwell and Heitinga on at right-back.

Absolutely awful. Typical Moyes from the start. I said we wouldn't start either of our new players and we didn't. Just how bad does Osman have to play before he is dropped? Not that he was alone today as they were all rubbish. Today showed why Moyes will never manage a top 4 team; he lacks ambition... one-nil up to a mediocre Fulham side and we spend the next 45 mins on the back foot. 4-5-1 is all he knows. The standard of football is a joke.

Hey, it wasn’t Moyes who let Duff go onto his left foot. I thought the Fellaini sub was odd too, but give him credit, Fellaini played fine... good cutting pass to Pienaar (who slipped) and that shot off the arm was ticketed. The defense made the bad decisions, not Moyes.

Neville had no business fouling Pantsil on the first one, and then Distin was caught off balance on the high ball, and Baines’ brain somehow decided AJ’s pointless run was more dangerous than steering Duff into the middle for the one thing he does best. I love Baines, but he’s the rockhead of the week as far as I’m concerned.

That was absolutely fucking abysmal. If Moyes wants us to persist with the aimless long ball ’style’ of play, why doesn’t he just go and buy a load of cloggers like bolton or blackburn?!? It may prove a little bit more effective. What’s the point in picking supposed footballers such as Rodwell, Pienaar, Osman or Fellaini if you’re gonna consistently bypass them all game - or in Fellaini’s case just play the ball in his general direction and hope for the best? There were glimpses in the first half of some decent moves involving Pienaar and Osman, yet the minute we are put under pressure we resort to the hoof up field to nobody, only for it to come straight back at us. I’m totally sick to fucking death of watching this utter drivel, and it’s embarrassing to think that several million people across the country have just seen us play like that (again!).
Don’t worry though, as Moyes has mentioned a couple of times this last week, we started slowly last year too - so that’s OK then.
