Our better players

I'm starting to think that our better players, Arteta, Pienaar, Jagielka and Neville, have been carrying this team. I don't just mean in terms of the quality of their play but also in terms of having a winning mentality.

Now I know that football is meant to be a confidence game. Certainly, if I was having the equivalent in work of our recent run of games I would be fairly low myself. But to see our fit senior players play with such a lack of passion and commitment does make me wonder at how much more we actually miss our better players.

In seasons past, if things started to go wrong we could always rely on a sense of spirit and sense of we can do it anyway driving the team forward. This season, with the aforementioned players out injured, these passions have been non-existent.

You would have to wonder at what is going through Arteta's or Jagielka's heads right now. I know their main focus will be just on getting back playing but I would worry about what they are starting to make of the mess we are currently in.
