International Round-up

Comments (7)

Good performance from the Everton boys on show today,

Russia 2 - 1 Slovenia

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov scored twice to seal what should have been a comfortable victory but had a late twist which keeps this tie very much alive. Bilyaletdinov opened the scoring when he turned superbly to take out two defenders and then lashed the ball into top right-hand corner.

And he doubled Russia's lead when he slotted home from close range after the ball came back to him off a defender.

Nigeria

Nigeria are now through to the World Cup after Nigeria's 200 or so spectators at the stadium had their spirits lifted when Obafemi Martins equalized on 62 minutes and Yakubu Aiyegbeni netted again just three minutes later. But Obafemi Martins saved the day for the Super Eagles netting his 2nd goal of the game on 83 minutes.

England U-21 1 - 0 Portugal U-21

Dan Gosling also made a cameo appearance in the England U-21 international game against Portugal's U-21's .

Well, during another evening of slight Ingerland entertainment, it was good to hear that our very own Bily scored a cracking first goal, then added a powerful second (and almost a third) over in Russia v Slovenia. The lad has got some talent.

Bily's Turn.

Not bad, for a one-footed player who can’t beat anybody, if you relied on some TW posters assessments. Personally, pretty much from the start, he has put me in mind of Duncan McKenzie.

I think Bily has found his feet (if you see what I mean) in the PL considerably quicker than most imports to any club. I wouldn’t mind betting that some of his mates over there, having seen the lad come back from his new career at EFC might fancy a trip to Finch Farm to inspect the facilities.

ps - good job he didn’t knock that one in before we signed him as we might not have been able to afford him.

Marouane Fellaini scored also in Belgium's 3-0 win over Hungary.

While I didn’t watch the whole of the Russia v Solovenia match, it seemed to me that every time I did look in on the game "Everton’s Russian winger" seemed to be playing in the middle, with Arshavin playing wide....... Interesting huh?

Bily’s first was a corker!
