I'd rather lose 4-3 than draw 0-0

Comments (35)

It's almost time for the derby and I think the feelings of the ToffeeWeb readers are together in this one. It's time to win. It's so time to win. So I figured I'd say it and put it out there. Sometimes a draw is a great result. But if we are to get anything out of this season, draws can not be part of the next few months.

And beating Liverpool would be a great start to this very difficult month. So let's pray David Moyes sends the lads out with Win on their mind. Because it's all that matters right now.

With you there 100%, Joey.

Let's make this the matchday mailbag thread.... but we also have the new Live Forum up and running that refreshes itself with new posts automatically.

Hopefully the server will hold up under the load... but if it doesn't come back after a manual refresh, you may want to come aback and post on this thread...

Go get 'em, Blues!!!

Here’s to going down fighting!

A win is a must!
Bring on the fighting spirit!

I wonder how much of a headache Moyes is having.

I missed where Moyes played Neville at Wigan (had to work) but here’s how I see it.

Recent returning players : Yakubu, Arteta, Neville.. and Distin

Howard (keeper unchallenged)
Neville (or Coleman?) Heitinga, Distin (or Senderos?) Baines
Donovan (or Osman?) Arteta (or Bilyaletdinov?) Pienaar
Cahill and Fellaini (or two strikers)
Saha (or Yakubu, Vaughan, Anichebe)

Nah - I’d take the point. I’d much rather have three though.

The shite have experienced a slight resurgence in the last few games, but still look inconsistent overall and wobbly in the back. I think we should have a go and pounce on them. I have a feeling Cahill will score, as I believe he has the 2nd best record after the great Dixie Dean at Anfield. COYB! FTRS!

I want us to get stuck into them like we did against Man Shitty and the Arse, I want to see their smug faces drop for a change, proper blood and guts derby, like the 4-4 one years ago except as Joey says 4-3 to us will do me fine.

I’m not sure you would be so forgiving. If we lost 4-3 there would be calls for Moyes head as usual with comments like ’’he cantwin in the big games, he hasn’t got the winning mentality’’

I really can’t see losing losing this one. With so many players back from injury and the team as a whole playing great. Hopefully, I’m right.

Joey.

Never. I would take a point everytime rather than lose, wonderful game or not. The score in any derby game, for me, has always meant little; I just want to win. A draw is bearable, and at Anfield very bearable. However, a loss means so much piss taking from that lot. A 3-2 loss, with 5 goals of the season, would mean very, very little to me.

Anyways, I’ve been up since half six this morning washing last nights dishes and sticking the kids clothes in the washing machine. Yes the nerves have kicked in a bit early today, so next up is taking the dog for a walk, got to wake him up first though.

Personally, I don’t mind if it’s backs to the wall for 89 minutes with both Stevie G and Ladyboy hitting the bar, and sometimes the post, 6 times each. Then in that wonderful 90th minute Neville has a shot and it cannons of at least 4 red shirts and drifts into the bottom corner. Oh shit, we have at least 5 players off side – but hey, not spotted by the ref or his sidekicks. Yep that would be a wonderful game.

Player for player, there is no reason why we can’t win this one but I think one or two of Moye’s selection decisions will ultimately decide who wins it. If we are content for Neville to sit deep and hit long diagonal balls up front and our only threat posed is down the left then I fear we may not get the result we deserve.

Another crucial area is midfield, with the possibility of Gerrard & Mascherano v’s Fellaini & Osman. Personally the latter for me does not work as well Fellaini & Piennar.
A couple of key decisions to be made, lets hope Moyes gets it right.

I’m not a huge fan of Distin but I thought Senderos looked rusty against Wigan and was caught out of position a few times, as was Pip. Luckily it was Jason Scotland on the end of the chances. I think Osman might do his usual disappearing act against my pet hate of all their players, Mascherano. But do we want to take Pienaar out of the middle. Yak & Saha up front with Felli & Tim CM anyone?

You must be joing right? Rather take zero points than 1? Where’s the sense in that? If you like being a plucky loser, you’re welcome to it but personally its all about getting points on the board so 1 over none every timw.

Naturally, I hope we smash em!

DM will stick with 4-5-1 and see how it goes, we need to stifle their midfield, expecting a close match, Cahill set piece goal, Creasehead or Sloth spawny equaliser and late scrambled winner from Fellaini or Saha.

I got off of work an hour ago - will not take a nap cuz I don’t want to risk missing a single second even though kickoff is 5:30 AM over here. Today is my birthday. The only birthday present I want is a 3-0 win with two goals by Donovan, followed by the Evertonians at the game chanting "Sign him up!" like they did with Kevin Campbell in ’98!

I’ve a feeling we’ll go after them today - I’d love to see a ’Man City’ type dominating performance from start to finish.

I love to see Donovan slot one into the bottom corner after latching onto a magnificent through ball by Osman... and then Cahill to bury one with his head in front of the Kop...

Oh... yes!

Right... away to the off licence

OS says we’ll be lining up -

Howard
Neville, Heitinga, DISTIN, Baines
Donovan, Osman. Felli, Pineaar
Cahill
Saha

Bench: Bily, Arteta, Senderos, Anichebe, and Yakubu

I assume Nash as well.

Sorry don’t like losing to the RS, don’t give a flying bollock if was the greatest game of all time, give me a 0-0 bore draw everytime, or a 1-0 win and the goal’s offside/handball/o.g anything just give me a win. PS that’s the best bench for 10 years

WHAT WAS DAVID MOYES THINKING BRINING ON YAKUBA AND ANICHEBE ON THE 70 MINS?

THEY OFFERED NOTHING, ABOSULTELY NOTHING, BOTH HAVE A TOUCH OF A RAPIST AND OUT OF FORM!

SURELY COLEMAN FOR NEVILLE ON 65 MINUTE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO SUPPORT DONOVAN ON THE RIGHT. WHERE WAS VAUGHAN, IF FIT HE SHOULD HAVE COME ON FOR SAHA. WHY DROP CAHILL INTO CENTRE MID!

DAVID MOYES YOU MUPPET WHAT WHERE THOSE SUBSTITUTIONS ABOUT THEY WERE TOTALLY AND UTTERLY WRONG!!!!!DAVID MOYES IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT INEPT SECOND HALF PERFORMANCE.

Just to add (and without the angry Caps Lock this time), 90% of the time David moyes is a genius but what is this 10% mind block he seems to have to not see the blindinly obvious! Loyalty to senior player like neville and osman means he can't get better players like Coleman who we were cying out for onto the pitch. So frustrating we could have won at Anfield for the first time in ages!

Too many players just didnt perform, Pienaar was poor; Osman, although the easy target ,was shite; Neville and his hospital balls... one shot on goal in the second half against ten men sums it up. Too reliant on hoofing it towards Cahill and Saha. Neville gave possesion away for their corner needlesly, and Howard should have done a lot better. Felli and Peanuts out for Chelsea so it look like Osman will again get to start in the middle.

What the fuck do you have to do to get dropped in this team? First defeat in nine but February looks like it may get worse.

That was fucking pathetic. The second time we lost playing an extra man at Anfield. Can’t fault the shite, they played the better tactics with the better personnel.

Neville - should’ve been goal side against Kuyt. Fucking schoolboy error it was so embarassing.

Distin — fucking fat loaf needs to be put out of his misery. Disaster waiting to happen.

Fucking dwarfs — Baines, Pienaar, Osman. No place in a derby. Sending children to the field.

Saha — fucking pussy pulls away from the tackles.

Gone down twice against the shite and no goals for. Moyes fucking take a look at yourself. Fucking piss.

It's time for Moyes to go, it is obvious that when push come to shove against the Sky 4/5 he is tactically inept. 10 years now since we won at the pit and the team tactics just dont look like they will get any different. Never thought I’d say it but bring back big Joe if only for a couple of sesons so we can get a result against the Shite.

Not good enough, just not good enough. Man for man we had the better team out there and were fine up until Fellaini was taken out by that poor man’s excuse for a pirate.

The loss of Felli completely changed the dimension of our team. That's where the game was lost.

Calling for Moyes’s head is ridiculous. He had 2 strikers on the bench, Saha was inneffective and there were no decent crosses coming in so he puts on Vic and the Yak as battering rams to the 2 lines of four. What else could he do?

I agree however that Coleman should have been on today. That was a huge oversight.

Piennar’s sending off was inevitable as the refs always feel they have to balance out the red cards. Pathetic decision. Where was the extra time for the substitions and the booking?

All in all very disappointed, more so with the players than the manager today. Hope Felli is ok soon, he is obviously now pivotal to our current side.

Why does he play Osman in these type of games, he always gets overrun and ends up giving the ball away time after time. I wish Moyes could see that we would rather lose 3-0 having a go than another pathetic loss whilst keeping it tight and trying to nick it. When has that ever worked for us against the Sky 4?

A mate, a red one at that, wondered why it took so long for Moyes to see that Osman should have been subbed. I wondered why the hell he was on the field in the first place!

Osman lovers wil point to others who had bad games and I will not argue with that fact. I have said several times this week on TW and over previous years, against top teams he is less than useless. According to his fans, centre mid is his best position.

What excuse will they make for him this time? For a supposedly creative player he creates very little. What angered me the most was the length of time it took for Moyes to recognise that we were carrying a passenger.

As for their goal I was disgusted at Neville’s piss poor man marking of Kuyt. He ignored advice given to thousands of defenders when facing a corner: Stay goal-side of your opponent. He didn’t... Kuyt scored and that was the game lost.

I cannot believe that no one has mentioned Howard. Week in week out he stays stuck on his line when crosses come in, he doesnt even command his 6 yard box never mind the penalty area.
How the hell can a goalkeeper be beaten from one yard with a header ?
Poorly as Everton played Liverpool never looked like scoring, but once they did then the defend your own half tactic kicked in, its amazing how Jekyll and Hyde Everton are, never 2 halves of consistent football.
Moyes should have changed the line up at halftime and gone 4-4-2, Saha unbelievably, when tackles were flying in from all angles, actually pulled out of every tackle.
Mr Moyes has done well to get Everton where they were this morning, but he needs to realise that you MUST take the initiative when something falls in your favour, too often we sit back and wait for something to happen.
I think if Fellaini had not been injured we would not have lost, Arteta still 2 yards off the pace and should not have been brought on so early.
I also thought Carragher could have been sentoff after 15 secs for his tackle on Pienaar, who got no protection during the game, so eventually took the law into his own hands, but what a dive by Gerrard to get him sent off, disgusting.
