Spurs vs Everton

Comments (144)

And this is how its shaping up for the blues....

Everton: Howard, Neville, Baines, Heitinga, Distin, Osman, Arteta, Rodwell, Pienaar, Yakubu, Anichebe.

Subs: Nash, Gosling, Yobo, Jagielka, Donovan, Vaughan, Bilyaletdinov

Interesting to see Yak and Anichebe up front! COYB's!!

And no Live Forum. That’s still down.

Poor 1st half. No idea what Distin was doing for the 1st goal. Defence looks all at sea. Noone holding in midfield. Anichebe is 2nd best to Bale. Up front, well, while the Yak is having some impressive 1st touches & hold up play, he is far too isolated & won’t score without any assistance up front. Rant over! Here’s hoping for a better 2nd half!

Seems like whoever we play in the back four we immediately retreat to our own box. And I thought it was just Yobo!

When we have a bit of confidence we play a high tempo pressing game that suits our players. Today we look lethargic, lacking leadership and low on confidence. The lower the confidence the more we drop back... very poor.

Distin has been an absolutely liability again today. Had an ’okay’ start to his Everton career, but I never had much confidence in his ability.

Secondly, tired or not, what the hell is Moyes doing playing Anichebe on the right wing with Donovan and Bilyaletdinov on the bench? Even Osman on the right and two up front would be a better option. Or then there’s the Coleman option. Playing a STRIKER on the right wing, when he hasn’t played any meaningful football for a year just seems like lunacy.

No wonder we’re 2-0 down.

Something to ponder here ...

Everton haven’t ever come back from 2-0 to win in the Premiership, except for THAT game in 1994. Absolutely incredible. I can’t imagine a more important game than that to come from 2-0 from though.

Still, doesn’t bode well for this afternoon.

Let’s face it lads Moyes has decided to just go through the motions till season's end. Picking Anichebe ahead of Donovan was a no-brainer. Saha is injured but why not start Vaughan. Anichebe has nothing and should be sold so maybe Moyes wanted to showcase him but as an attacking midfielder-no way.

Neville is crap as a right back — why not start Coleman? I predicted this tired performance after the Lisbon Debacle and that’s why a few fresh faces may have helped but we give so much space away it’s hardly surprising we are getting punished.

To me its was Moyes’s team formation what did us , why oh why Rodwell playing off Yakubu in the 1st half . I understand he isn’t good enough yet to play the deep lying CM role but for goodness sake play Pinnear or Osman off Yakubu . We were left with no defensive midfield ( closer down , tackler , Mean bugger) and I’m afraid our Central defence shortcomings were exploited once again by a team playing fast on the deck football.

2nd half Moyes addressed the issue with Jags and Heitinga moves and we were undoubtedly the better team.
I do wish that we had a real cutting edge to our game going forward its always sideways and relying on our full backs to get round the back. There is no fast intelligent movement around the baox with people getting free as Modric did for his goal.

Best will be about 7th and hope for a european slot.

Im watching Villa V United now.

Wouldnt it be nice if we were there?!!

Anyway season over lads. No relegation fear this year but nothing else either - we could never recover from late 2009.

Sorry but that loss hurt and Donovan should have secured a draw with that open goal.

If you play in the Premiership you should have the quality to put away goals like that in your sleep.

I fear Donovan lacks that little bit of quality.

Anichebe was awful too. When did he get so slow? And his touch was awful, he couldn’t hold the ball up if he was allowed to use his hands.

Apart from that it was a spirited fight back in the second half so not all doom and gloom.

Their 1st goal was poor defending from our side. But the 2nd goal was unstoppable, it was an excellent goal, nothing anybody could have done about that.

2nd half, we took it to them, and were the team that looked most likely to win the game. Had we got the 2nd goal with Pienaars chance, I am sure we would have gone on to win it. But it didnt happen, and we lost. To what is now the 4th place team in the league, and at their own patch. I still dont see why Europe is out of reach for us, we have a good run in. Its not time to throw the towel in yet.

Kevin, he must have been tracking the invisible man, because Distin went with Defoe, and Heitinga was in the middle marking space, the russian lad was about 4 yards behind him. They said near enough the same thing in the commentary, and thought Heitinga was at fault.
I bet if that had been Hibbert, he would be getting slated by now.

Dan, while I agree we were probalby the better team 2nd half, not by that much though, they had just as many chances to wrap the game up.

Brian read the game ! Distin ran ten yards out of his box, leaving Defoe UNMARKED. The cross/shot should never have happened. You don’t know what you’re talking about. The commentators ALSO blamed Distin.End of.

Fixtures still suggest we can get up that table. Only villa man city and stoke away worry me. Plenty of points to play for. Keep the faith boys.

Agreed Kunal, it was very optimistic to think we could finish 4th, even by Doddys standards!

One thing I was happy to see today was Mikel back in his usual position, and driving the attacks from the back. He is still not at the top of his game, but is improving since his return. Jags and Johnny will need a bit of time to settle, but that is going to be a fantastic pairing. Johnny is certainly another Moyes gem to add to the growing list.

Moyes fault again IMO. An unfit Anichebe on the wing?
No holding midfielder, with Rodwell not in his preferred position in the first half cost us. What was Distin doing? he is a liability, Neville is, well Neville, when is Coleman going to get a go, even 30 minutes to see what he can do. Moyes, get a grip.

We’re not even in 8th anymore...

Next season will be critical. Credit crunch has levelled the playing field somewhat. Just have to hope Liverpool are not bought by a billionaire with Mourinho brought in...nightmare...

Brian, totally disagree, it was Distin who was completely at fault!

Mikel was definitely the big plus today. For me today proved that Saha, Jags, Felli and Cahill are probably are most important players.

Very pleased with the spirit showed, but still can’t get my head around the tactics,

Kevin, get a grip lad, no need for the fucking attitude! Yeah, watching it again they were BOTH at fault, but it’s funny that it is just Distin who is getting slated for it, looks like he has become the new whipping boy.

It was like the other week, it was a twat of a back pass by Rodwell, but Distin got slated for the goal, and has been blamed by a fair few lads on here for the exit from Europe.

DM will play JH in midfield and pair Jags and Distin at the back against Hull next week. Just hope Saha is fit - despite his shite performance against Sporting. Can’t understand Big Vic starting today - he looked out of puff from the first whistle. Bily must have pissed off DM big time.

I haven’t read the entire thread. Has anybody commented on Howard’s ineptitude for their second goal? The ball went directly over his head, yet he didn’t even raise his hands to try to stop it. Howard is a very, very ordinary keeper who gets away with a lot at Everton simply because we are desperate for quality.
