Vaughan 5 - Saha, Beckford, Yakubu 2

Comments (17)

James Vaughan has now scored 5 league goals compared with only 2 from Saha, Beckford and Yakubu.

Some may say it's in a different league but most Championship teams are on a par with the vast majority of Premier League teams. And Vaughan is also playing in a struggling team so it's even more commendable.

He's been fit all season and scoring while our 3 have missed chance after chance... so let's keep ignoring the obvious!

A bit desperate that. There is still a big gap between the Premier League and the Championship, three of his goals came in one game and he looked well off the pace in the fleeting apperances he has made for us over the past 3-4 years.

We need new strikers, not the same ones who have already shown to be not up to scratch.

No one else has done the business. With some confidence it may be worth giving him a try. He isn't going to be any worse than Beckford!

Between them Beckford, Saha and Yak have scored 4 haven't they? - but anyway, Vaughan is not the striker that we need. Three of his 5 came in one match, so he has played quite a few games without scoring too. Have to agree with Tom, I'm afraid.

At least one of Vaughany's goals came from a penalty, then he scored three in his debut. He's played a few games, so put together it is not amazing considering he's playing in the Championship.

As much as I'd love for Vaughan to be the answer he'll most likely be another misfiring one for us.

So hat-tricks can't be counted in an overall record? Better tell the log keeper to scrap Dixie's record.

I watched him a few times this season, he's been impressive, hasn't lost any of his pace or fight. I'd rather have him coming on in the last 20 than any of the current crop. Won't happen though, Moyes picks his teams in order of seniority.

Vaughan has never been given a run in our first team has he?

He's also got his red card out of the way.

We need a clear out of the current striker's department in my opinion but with Stuart Barlow being more likely to score than Saha, Yak or Beckford at the moment it can't do any harm to give Vaughan a chance to show he's got a future at the club.

Vaughan in January: it will be like signing a new player!

He scored a hat trick against a side bottom of the league and struggling to get a team together, a penalty in a 3-2 loss and another game. Sent off in a game, straight red. Yeah, he is the new coming isn't he?

In fact I wish he was back because he, out of all the strikers, is the one with pace and can intimidate defenders.

"Most Championship teams are on a par with the vast majority of Premier League teams."... where the hell did that come from? There is in fact a reason why the best teams play in the PL... you may not believe this, but is in fact because they are better ... and NO, James Vaughan is not good enough. If I remember, 3 of those goals were scored in the same game, that means two in 11 games otherwise... impressive?

There is only one striker we should be thinking of, and that's Beckford. When he has started 5 games and not been taken out at half-time, and is still missing sitters, then I will be the first to call for change but believe me ? I will want something better than Vaughan up front...

Nonsense, get him back to Goodison.

Put him up front with Beckford. After intensive coaching they will be more than a match for PL defenses.

Go for diamond with Cahill at the tip. Get Donovan for wide right and Pienaar wide left. Offer Pienaar an extra bag of crisps and a bottle of Merlot and he'll stay.

Big fella at the bottom of diamond.

Bench Arteta because at the moment he's shite. Make Rodwell wait or put him on when two- or three-nil up.

Drop Jags. Put Heitzilberger with Distan and Baines left, Coleman right full backs.

Set aside, then cook (whilst normal team formation plays) at Finch, till the end of the season.

Then serve piping hot for next season and tell them if they don't qualify for the CL then they're all sacked and Beckham (the hero) will come in on his own and play a 1 formation (because that's what the meeja still thinks he can do).

Joking aside, if Pienaar goes, then go for Gueye on the left. Whatever happens, Vaughan and Beckford up front. Fast as fuck and hungry to boot.

I heard, from a reliable source that Everton are in negotiations to bring Joe-Max Moore out of retirement in January.

So you think that Championship defenders are as good as the many defenders in the Premier League that play for their national teams? And that Vaughan is capable of beating these world class players based on his half-season in the Championship so far?

I agree wholeheartedly with the Original Post. I would like to add that I have been following the match reports of all of Crystal Palace's fixtures, and his display has generally drawn praise. Oh, and he also won 2 penalties that somebody else converted.

Personally, I think he has been badly handled by Moyes. Bring him back at Goodison and allow Vaughan & Beckford up front. 2 young, hungry, fast strikers will worry any defense.

Whether you think Vaughan is good enough or not, what have we got to lose in bringing him back? He couldn't be any worse than what we have up front at the moment.
