Woodgate loan?

Comments (24)

Harry Redknapp has said he will allow Jonathan Woodgate to leave on loan in January. He seems the perfect answer to our annual January centre back signing! If you can get a run of games from him, he is one of the best centre backs in the league.

Heard on the radio that 'Appy 'Aarry wants to send Woodgate out on loan to give him some much needed game time.

Maybe worth a punt since we'll be low on a CB.

Not good enough for Spurs but good enough for us. We can't afford to ease 'Arry's players back to fitness. It'll never happen.

Cracking player but makes Saha look like fecken Hercules. We have already had a Spurs central defender sucking money from us before, Gardner, paid his wages to get his match fit... no thanks.

He's good enough for any team out there, but he makes Saha look... like... an... uninjured person... hmmm. No point in taking him. Be about as much good as that other Spurs CB we took on loan.... can't remember his name.

Would be a good cover signing. Moyes will bring off the bench and play him left midfield.

He's a good centre half on his day but too injury-prone.

A run of games for Woodgate... we could get Dyer of West Ham also who has played 22 games in three years at about £80 grand a week. Woodgate is a fine player but a run of games? I doubt it.

I think this would be a cracking deal on one condition: if he sustained a injury, he could be sent back with no financial loss to us.

"he is one of the best centre backs in the league"

I would agree with you if we amended that to: "he WAS one of the best centre backs in the league"

He would be worth a gamble on a pay-as-you-play deal but I think 'Appy 'Arry has a Championship loan in mind.

I was thinking the same, Jay. Can't see him being loaned to a Prem club, Harry would probalby want to ease him back in, so the Championship would probalby be a safer option.

I actually think he's finished though.

No, thanks; too injury-prone and never really hit the heights he did at Leeds. Although personally I never really saw anything special about him.

NO. We need someone who is up to speed playing wise. It'll take him weeks to get it all together and right now we cannot afford that.

I suppose anyone who we can get on loan would be of help especially with injuries and Cahill going to the Asia Cup. Wheater was a solid performer last season for Boro and Woodgate is class. We may lose Pienaar... and maybe even Yaks and Bily who both seem out of Moyes's plans ? so they may bring some welcome cash.

This has to be a XMAS wind-up,
Arry's been on the sauce.
If the lads fit then let him play him.

Utterly fantastic defender when fit, even the Madrid fans loved him and he only had about twelve minutes of playing time there.

But if he isn't 100%, and he clearly ISN'T, thats the whole point of Arry wanting to loan him out, then why on earth should we bother?

I would only have Woodgate if Jagielka gets confirmed to be out of action for 4/5 weeks. Maybe also if Heitinga is about to be sold. I actually don't think Woodgate is any better than any of our centre-halves.

Distin has been playing well lately and Jags is always consistant. With Heitinga possibly still not fit what about giving Duffy a run if he is now fit again or Rodwell. We need to have someone ready to step in if Jags and Distin get crocked. Forget about Hibbert and Pip at centre back.

"Perfect answer"???

How can he be the perfect answer when he can't even get on the football pitch, let alone play on it?

I doubt Bagpuss would allow a decent player to join a league rival. He may go to the likes of West Ham or a Championship club. I wouldn't want him anyway.

And if he doesn't come to Everton, people will criticise DM for not signing him, despite the clear indication here that we don't want him.

Man City may look at loaning Adam Johnson out, with Sunderland looking to get the ball rolling.

Right - winger, wages £25k aweek, surely......
