92 Comments: How long eh... how long? The list is endless. Everton robbed by a referee with his head so far up his own arse he can play the mouth organ on his larynx. ?It was an honest mistake? the pundits will say. ?He got it wrong? ?It was not one of his best performances?. And the list of injustices grows, the list of shite performances by shite and probably bent referees continues. Add Martin Atkinson?s name to the list headed by Clive Thomas, add it just behind Graham Poll, stick it next to Clatternburg, to Mike Riley, to Uriah Rennie.
I hate getting beat by Liverpool, it hurts - but the sting is taken out when it?s a fair even contest. I?ve seen us get trounced 0-5 and a master class of forward play by Ian Rush and it felt better than this. This match was ended as a contest after 20 minutes when Rodwell was sent off in one of the most inept decisions I?ve ever seen in a Derby game and I?ve seen a few.
As to our performance after the sending off - it was all about containment and we didn?t have the resolve nor the reserve.
I?ve had enough. We were up against it already with £100 million pre-season spending playing £250,000 - but this tit of a referee for reasons best known to himself (and who knows - his bank manager) felt he had to even up the score a bit.
Sod this for a lark - I?m off to watch a game less bent, like Stockbridge Village Infant school arm wrestling The Kiwi Rugby Union side second row - or cross channel swimming whilst carrying a piano.

Completely puts you off football when you get decisions like that. Hurts even more when its us playing Liverpool, when so much goes against us. The world is not fair ? great lesson being an Everton fan.

We can berate the match official until the cows come home but it's not going to change today's outcome, even after the sending off for a time it looks like the boys could still get a result but in the end the extra man and humidity proved decisive after an early dismissal.
Just remember a handful of ref's giving favorable shite decisions over the course of a season does not constitute the Anfield club will come out of it with anything to show for it, don't be surprised if they end up with nothing, and it won't be the first time in recent years.

I watched the match today in a bar full of Liverpool supporters. Here's where I take comfort:
We do not, and I'm nearly sure about this, have players who will deliberately cheat.
We don't have Andy Carroll; surely the worst signing in the history of the world.

One thing is for sure, Rodwell's challenge may have been enough to have Suarez fall over, but not leap two feet into the air and come crashing down and roll around like a big girl's blouse. Suarez made it easier for the ref, or harder for him, whichever way you want to look at it.

It was that much of a bad call sending Rodwell off, Souness condemed it How the fuck do you get sent off for taking the ball of a player cleanly? It wasn't even a foul.
It's too late for this match but it will be interesting if we appeal the red card, and what response we get.

Sorry Nick#13 Sewer rat was doing what all Latin American footballers do, it is the actions of Atkinson that need to be looked at, not only the sending off but Kuyt was offside for the 2nd goal, and all key decisions went RS way. Refs can make amends by giving shed loads of free kicks in neutral areas but it is their actions in key areas that sets the alarm bells ringing.

I'd also add that refs are notorious for not giving decisions against the "big" teams because of all the media interest it sparks. Half of that media interest is driven by the managers of big clubs like Wenger or Ferguson coming out and having a whinge when things don't go their way.

And that's not a criticism, because I applaud Moyes's stance on having a squad of players who are honest and don't berate the ref to the same extent as some clubs, but it does irk me to see that we are in a minority in terms of that attitude and it really does us no favours in matches.

No criticism of David Moyes here. We have seen today what he is up against. The referee today was utterly incompetent. He destroyed what could have been a great derby. Suarez is a cheat who is probably proud of his day's work. Also, he is a coward. I've tried to think of appropriate words to describe what I have just witnessed but cowardly cheat will have to do.
The worst refereeing performance I have ever seen. I have slammed David Moyes on this site but today, forget, apologist or Moyes hater. We we were the victims of cheating, incompetence and cowardice.

James @18 spot on!. If Atkinson thought that was a foul, then his ability to serve as a top level referee needs to be reviewed. More broadly, if the laws of the game state the tackle was a foul, then football may as well be changed into a contact-free sport.
But you could say that about Moyes to a degree about last weeks setback at Manchester City if you take the cheating out of it. Incompetence and cowardice was mentioned much in some variation by many participants or least that's what I read.
But you're right, today is not about berating Moyes, he went for an attacking option during the game but the damage had already been done early doors, and I've seen worse refereeing decisions than that prick this afternoon. France vs West Germany in 1982 as such an example, but yes, getting tired of getting fucked over by Redshite favoring officials.

I have to disagree about Moyes not being to blame. Forget the so-called referee and his decisions, Hibbert was shite and that's about as good as he's ever been. No attempt to cut out the cross for the first goal, he was well beaten when being favourite to the ball. Marks thin air, puts crosses into the box when there's no one in there. Pushes up and leaves the right side exposed. Once Coleman went off, Enrique ragged him soft. Moyes eventually took him off but onto the second piece of bad management.
He is reluctant to play strikers but when he does, he makes it a player who's had no match practice for ages and isn't the type to rough defenders like Carragher up. Strac should have at least come on in the second half and put himself about and Saha shouldn't have got 90 mins. He was understandably knackered well before then. As for South American 'footballers'? ? they shouldn't be allowed in the country after this week... (er... except Strac).

I cant fuckin believe this. The prick was right in the view of the tackle and no way was it a red fuckin card. It was a hard but clean tackle. Even Graham fuckin Souness said it wasnt. He should be demoted after that. Also, Liverpool hardly got any bookings. Only Lucas got one but Suarez didn't get one when he barged into Jags.
I reckon we would have won the game if this never happened. We were creating chances and kept them at bay but, after this we completely had to change to a defensive setup. I also hate that annoying little prick Suarez. His face just riles me up and he also looks like a rat. He also prevented Ghana to be the first African team to get to the World Cup Semi Finals after handled the ball on the line last summer. He is a good player but is a cheating, diving and dirty player. Fuck you, Atkinson... Fuck you, Suarez... and fuck you Redshite.

If there is any justice at all, the red card should be rescinded but we all know that would be a major surprise if the happened. The guy Suarez rolling around like he had been chopped in two will hopefully come back to haunt him in more ways than one!
Hibbert would also have been sent off for the challenge on Adams ? the only reason he wasn't was because the ref knew he had made a mistake with Rodwell. All-in-all, it's tough being an Evertonian, but this is what makes us the special fans we are. Keep the blue flag flying. COYB.
I bow to no-one in my distaste at the tactics and overall attitude of David Moyes. Not today; okay I'd have started Drenthe ahead of Cahill but he set out a pretty positive team and Rodwell was playing well. We were robbed today but enough whingeing. If he continues with that attitude, there will be good days to come.

I have supported Everton since 1952 and I have been disappointed many times by poor refereeing decisions, many times but this has to be the worst (along with Clive Thomas). I look forward to these two fixtures every year and to have the outcome determined by such incompetency is hard to deal with. Last week at Man City I cringed when I saw Howard Webb as the official. These nitwits are so biased in favor of the top 4 or 5 it's pitiful. You know a ref has a poor game whe he is the main talking point. An absolute joke, when you compare it to say, the two footed Gerrard lunge on Naysmith at Anfield and he wasn't sent off! I know that was a long time ago now but it just shows how these decisions go against us when we play them and have been for years. Going out soon, gonna be a late night and a few sherbets going down, but I would of done that regardless of todays result, OK, we got fucked to an extent by a less than excellent match official, the opposition won, it was a lousy afternoon, the players for their part tried, Moyes did some alterations from last week, I hate losing to this cunt opposition as much as anyone else, but all done, the result stands and we have to move on, all is not lost in the league, and then there's the FA and League Cups and you never know what can happen. I'm still getting on with it, but from here on tonight I think I'll divorce myself from any further soccer talk. There'll be brighter days than this.

what is mick davies going on about saying this player didn't do that and didn't do this, the game was finished as soon as that twat of a referee sent Rodwell off, so no mick we won't forget for a minute about the referee, he killed the game completely and it is a total waste of time trying to judge the game beyond that.
Some people round my end have been saying "HONEST MISTAKE" but that is bollocks. Ref's are supposed to only give fouls (and cards) if they are sure they see the infrigment. If they are not sure, they are not supposed to give it. How could he be sure when it didn't happen? You can't accidentally see something that isn't there. Total incompetence. Oh no. All we are saying is incompetent referee who should be reigned in before he can do further damage. The financial situation thrust upon fans is bad enough but Refs like him will put the icing on the cake. People can lose their jobs just because of his incompetence. Clubs can lose revenue as fans realize to stay away when such buffoons are officiating.

I thought the attitude and make-up of the team was excellent today. With 10 men, we never gave up. They did us proud today, anyone having a go at Moyes after that has ulterior motives. Things like what that ref did today make me think there's no point to football anymore. It's not entertainment when we all know if were playing one of the Sky 4, 5, 6 whatever the fuck it is now, it's a dead on certainty that it's 11 v 12 at best.

That is the worst refereeing performance I have ever seen. He totally spoilt the game as a spectacle.I had just mentioned to my lad that the game had settled down nicely and we where watcing a proper derby football game.When out of the blue Atkinson decides to make a name for himself just like the many other refs we can name.

AsI said to my lad, as a spectator I'd have been pissed off if that card had been given to Lucas, say, on Saha. It destroyed the balance of the game. All refs should justify their card decisions to the crowd - it works in NFL. Why not in the PL?

Chris Matheson#58 Even Saha's goal v Arsenal wasn't offside. The laws clearly state that you are only offside when you receive the pass from a team mate, Saha was 15 yards offside but the pass intended for him was deflected into his pass by an Arsenal player, so he was onside.
But I do agree that over the years I cannot recall a controversial decision going in our favour, off the top of my head I can think of 8 that went against us.

I've got no issues with the pen either...ok he's gone down easy and he is a simulator but we knew that before the game and jags should not be putting tackles in like that...
I actually thought we were good value for a win today and even after going one down I thought we were still on for the draw. They were/are poor but let's be honest, our defending was awful for the goals and we rode our luck a bit before half time.

Suarez cheated yesterday to get Rodwell sent off. The world knows he is a cheat after his world cup goal one save to deny Ghana. The ref was completely suckered in. He didn't even think about it as he has his hand in his pocket for the red card within 1 second of the incident. so what should happen?
Rodwells card should be rescinded.

I thought Atkinson looked wasted as a central midfielder, Liverpool should start him striker next game.
Lets not forget the penalty decision which he didn't give for us when Kelly clearly took Drenthe;s feet. It may have only been with a couple of minutes to go but it was a clear penalty.

Peter. I also remember a Wayne Clark goal being disallowed with the score at 1-1 at Anfield. I think George Courtney was the ref in the case.

See the FA are launching an investigation into the coin and bottle throwing (which I don't agree with the fans doing), however still no investigation into biassed refereeing.

Just as I thought: Twatkinson was in charge of Arsenal v Liverpool earlier this season when he gave everything to the kopites. Needs investigating and needs sacking.
Atkinson nearly sliced Dyer in half at the Swansea v Soke game. Crouch kicked someone in the stomach and neither of these was a red card. In fact if anyone should have gone in the derby it should have been Adam for his challenge on Osman and Hibbert for a ridiculous lunge on Adam. By the way, is there any truth in reports that Kenwright claimed the 50p coin off Suarez?

What's going on here, down to 10 men already, says it was a 'harsh challenge', stupid cunt referee, even the pundits saying it wasn't anywhere near a red, Rodwell got the ball. :(
