Euro2012 hopeful Defoe linked with Goodison switch

Jermaine Defoe is being linked with a January move to Everton as he looks for regular first-team football ahead of next summer's European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

The striker has found opportunities limited at Tottenham following the arrivals of Rafael van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor and The Mirror report that Everton are one of a number of clubs being strongly linked with him.

Defoe demonstrated his goalscoring prowess at The Hawthorns at the weekend with one of Spurs' three goals in a 3-1 win.

Defoe has a very good sell-on value, so I would imagine the best we can hope for is a half-season loan where we pay 50%+ of wages for the duration (a quick google search suggests he is currently on around £60k per week).

But spurs may prefer to loan to someone who can pre-agree (and realistically take up) a permanent signing option, which I would guess at being £8 million+ and might be beyond our means.

Would love to have him, he's as proven as anyone in the premiership (that is available). Not sure how well he would play with saha - with velios would be a great match I think.

No, Elaine,

We can't afford PROVEN goalscorers and ones with pace tend to command the sort of money we don't have.

When Moyes was given money he bought strikers with pace such as Andy Johnson and a proven goalscorer in Yakubu.

Proven Premiership goalscorers with pace aren't available for under a million in case you hadn't noticed.

Sorry Karl, but Demba Ba (more goals than Rooney / Hernandez in the league so far this season) was free..

And if memory serves me right, our joint top scorer last season, Beckford, was also free, and the lad had a bit of pace! But I see your point...

Defoe is a tosser who doesn't deserve to wear an Everton shirt. Over-rated as well by the London media.

He reminds me of Beckford. He needs 25 chances for every goal he gets. He also has that 'greediness' which is often cited as an advantage for a striker but which can be overdone. He overdoes it a lot.

Moyes wanted Ba.........Kenwright couldnt afford him til we sold someone, it was too late by then. And he was FREE!
