Everton are reportedly keeping an eye on Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard as negotiations over a new contract for the 24 year-old drag on without resolution.

The Daily Mail claims that Maynard, who has scored seven times already this season, could be a target of Everton's if he fails to agree terms with City and is available on a free transfer in the summer.

When Moyes was told there was money to spend in January, I mentioned on an earlier thread that Nicky Maynard be bought. I hope this happens as this lad has a hell of a shot on him and can take people on, exactly what you need when you play the lone striker role. He is young and hungry; mark my words, if we sign him, he will be 5 times the player than that pony-tailed Geordie across the road.

He's one of the best strikers in the Championship, and seems a real poacher.
Worst comes to worst, he can be another Beckford and we sell him for a profit.

Having watched a few Championship games this season...
One of the best strikers is actually Jutkiewicz who is now at Coventry and indeed they may be forced to sell him for a nice amount.
What did we sell him for?

Think Maynard looks a like a good idea and probably quite a realistic prospect.
He's not good enough to interest the top 5 or so.
Newcastle have Ba, but could want another striker. Otherwise could see it being between us and Villa, Stoke, Sunderland and QPR as to who pays out in january or snaps him up on a freebie in the Summer.
If he doesn't work you sell him back to a low Prem or high Championship club for a few mill. Easy peasy.

Elaine #6, if memory serves me right we sold him for around £300k, and the paper talk is his value being around 10 x that.

Tony, you're not wrong, though surely the one thing Harry doesn't need is another striker with Adebayor, Defoe and Pavyluchenko plus van der vaart playing as a forward. Then again....

Nowadays, strikers are usually taken off BEFORE the 90 minutes are up and let's face it... how many of our strikers last 90 minutes???
It's great to be a footballer... sit on the bench for at least half a game and come on for a cameo and get full pay!! In previous years (before subs) players NEEDED to be able to last 90 minutes and even later when ONE sub was allowed... now we have players who don't even have to play for the reserves and they are still getting paid...it's a DREAM job!!!

My gran could look good on selected clips on YouTube. There have been a number of strikers who have scored goals for fun in the lower leagues and can't adjust to the top flight, Eubanks-Blake comes to mind.

I watched his goals and he looks like a good opportunistic goal poacher. However, I would like to see Vellios and Stracqualursi get a fair run starting in the side before we sign another obscure striker.
Most of us could live for five years on what we've paid Stracqualursi so far to sit on the bench and do Nosferatu impressions. If we aren't going to use him, for Christ's sake FedEx him back to Argentina.
I love Louis Saha, but he just isn't getting it done and I'd like to see the striker situation sorted out before Anichebe becomes available again, no disrespect.

Absolutely true, David #15, but you have to admit that his goal v QPR was very special indeed. Please send in the video of your Gran executing a flying volley from the edge of the area ? I would love to see it!.

Take away Beckford's wages and there was still well over £2million profit. He also chipped in with some important goals. (And I'll never get tired of watching his goal that beat Chelsea at Goodison!)

We need new blood, especially on offence. If he is affordable, let's hope he chooses the Blues assuming Moyes is interested but not to play in the Reserves. If he is not ready to step into the Prem at 24, then he never will be.
Saha, Cahill and Anichebe are all back numbers these days which leaves Stracqualursi and Vellios, both of whom suffer at the hands of Moyes ? even though he brought them in.

Trevor (14) ? It would be dificult for any of our strikers in the past 10 years to last 90 mins as they don't usually get on the pitch until approx the 82nd minute ? after 15 minutes of instructions.
