According to a report on the Mirror Football website this morning, Everton manager David Moyes is keeping a very close eye on Jeremy Perbet of Belgian side Mons, who is in prolific form.

You can criticize Moyes about our style of play and his demeanour in interviews etc. But I won't criticize him in the transfer market when he's reduced to taking punts like this 4 months after we sold £18m worth of players.

Nice to see he is keeping an eye on other leagues (assuming the report is true). Also hope the lad is good - haven't heard of him before.
However, I am sorry to say that I have developed a somewhat sceptical attiude to Mr Moyes and strikers.
He has bought some decent players up front, Yakubu, Beattie, Johnson and Saha spring to mind. Sadly my opinion is that he has never made the most of their talents. If you sign a decent goal-scorer I think it is often best to tweak your team tactics to get the best from the hoped-for goal-getter.
Sorry to say that Mr Moyes appears to try to turn the forwards into hard working copies of his 'ideal professional' which seems to mean they run themselves to death, chasing and defending. I am all for hard work - they get paid enough for goodness sake - but it means they don't spend enough time in the box, using their best attributes to be on the end of chances that may be created.

Tony it would be nice as well if Moyes could buy a forward without having to sacrifice another player who could possibly get the ball to him.

I'm an Evertonian but also a Cliftonville supporter, they play in the Northern Irish Premier Division. Apparently Everton scouts are to watch Rory Donnelly this weekend. He's a 19-year-old striker who has already bagged three hat-tricks this season.
Swansea have already made a £100k bid for this kid. Check out his goals on the BBC NI Sport section, he's scored some great goals. Better than that, I'd say Cliftonville are playing better football than Everton are at present! Come on, Moyesie, sign the kid!

Looks good this lad and besides Fellaini was from the belgian league so that means nothing.

Tom(1), the problem with playing 1 recognised striker is that they rarely get the support they need, especially in our team with slow build-up play and often a massive gap between striker and midfielders.
Veteran strikers who on their day are "world class" like Saha can't manage it, so I dont hold out any hope for up and coming players like Vellios, Straq or indeed Jeremy Perbet, should he sign.
When playing 1 striker Moyes really needs to adjust his formation and tactics to give the striker some support, or just play 2 strikers. Until I've seen Vellios/Straq play with decent support I'm personally not writing them off as not good enough, I just don't think they've been given a suitable chance.
I actually dont think our main problem is in the striking front. I'd be happier if Moyes were looking at wide players with pace & creativity along the lines of drenthe, which would add a new dimension to our play we've missed since donovan left.

I've seen Mons play a few times this season. Mons play with three man up front with the two others creating lots of chances for Perbet. He is a natural goalscorer but he is not good in creating chances. He needs to be fed. The way we play, he has no added value. If we had decent wingers who get in crosses, he would be worth the punt.

Tony pickering, you are spot on with your judgement i think, moyes struggles to manage strikers, and having them track back and work is no benefiting us a all, we need a striker that moyes says, stay up front, always look to get behind the defenders, at the moment, is we counter attack with ourr cautious tactics, by the time Coleman or somebody has burst forward, there are no opions on, thats where our problems lie, we need 2 up front, but mostly, a striker thats their to do that very job, and nothing else.

Remember Radzinski who came from the Belgian league but never really scored much in the Prem.
We have Denis Straqualursi who is a goal machine on loan but not from the Argie top league and cannot get a kick in the Prem. Still it would give the Blues an extra option seeing how all the others are having a tough time.
