According to this story in The Echo, American striker Charlie Davies has emerged as an affordable answer to Everton's goalscoring problems.

Charlie Davies has been released by French side Sochaux — and DC United, where the 25-year-old spent a successful season on-loan, have decided not to pay the $1.2M it would cost them to sign him permanently.

Davies has won 16 caps for the USA and scored 11 goals in 26 games on loan with United in the recently ended MLS season.

DC United announced last Thursday that they were not exercising their option to sign him permanently — and reports in the French media have immediately linked him with a move to Everton.

The Blues have not confirmed the link but the modest transfer fee would be within Everton's limited means.

Forget all the rumours. You know the media will invent every story they can between now and the end of the trsansfer window especially where Everton are concerned. Truth is as in the Summer we need to sell to buy anyone worthwhile. The rest will be ragatag loan deals for Moyes to benchwarm.

I am slightly biased on this one, because I signed him on PES and he was a revelation!

Sorry to say but he is not good enough for Everton. Seen him play at the Swedish club Hammarby for a couple years ago and he was average (at most), in a mediocre league. He's poorer version of Beckford.

Worth a look. He's recovered from his injuries. #1 thing that hurt our US National Team. Charlie's car accident. He was playing very well at the time.

Likes to go to the net, fast, passes well.

Besides, what have we got to lose at this point? 2 games without a shot on goal. Bring him in and work him out. Don't like him? Send him back.
