Unchastened by the shame of having AVB kill their "Rodwell to Chelsea" tales, the latest potential transfer invention is that Spurs will offer £20M plus Steven Pienaar for the promising young Everton midfielder.

In addition to being linked with an audacious loan move for Kaka — a "statement of intent by Daniel Levy" say the reports — Spurs are apparently looking to steal a march on Manchester United and Chelsea for Rodwell.
The story was lent a touch more credence by a tweet from Agent_ITK on Twitter who tweeted, "Looking likely that Steven Pienaar's loan move [to Everton] will be permanent with Jack Rodwell moving south."

When he was playing for England, one of the commentators said 'I'm sure he's very good - but nobody seems to know what at'. And I don't mean Pienaar.

A tall, strong, young midfield player, a local lad who can strike the ball with either foot, has excellent ball control and vision, who has just broken onto the full international team.
I think I would prefer to see him play for Everton than another team.

Rodwell has vision??? The vision to pass sideways or backwards. I'm Johan Cruyff if Rodwell has vision!!

Rob (5) - as I said on TW just over a week ago, a kind of Sky-law now comes into play when talking about footballers.
Sky-law: a) "Any footballer who is average or slightly above average, shall now be described in terms that would only make sense if describing George Best or Pelé. b) Any footballer who is total shite and couldn't trap a bag of cement, shall now be described as a 'decent pro', a 'good squad player' etc.
Standards usually drop in a very slow 'drip-drip' fashion and when we DO notice, it's usually...too late
(re football - annoying, but I do give leeway to younger supporters as they have nothing to compare the present crop to)

Young players often need to play with top class players, or in a successful team, before they can fulfill their potential. Examples who spring to mind in the time I've been watching Everton are:-
Colin Harvey, who despite having played at the San SIro and won an FA Cup medal, didn't really come into his own until the arrival of Bally and Howard Kendal in the 66-67 season. Jimmy Husband and Joe Royle benefitted in the same way.
Gary Stevens and Kevin Ratcliffe, who both really struggled but you could see they had what it takes to be very good. They blossomed as the team suddenly clicked in early 84
Conversely, Steve McMahon and David Johnson had to go elsewhere to play amongst better players, which was a great shame.
In my opinion Jack Rodwell can reach a similar level to all these players. His vision would become a little more obvious if he had some team-mates who would run quite quickly into space off the ball, a basic part of football that has been missing from our team for far too long. There's plenty of it at Tottenham.

All people seem to forget that Rodwell really is not intended as a midfield player, he is and always will be best as a defender. As a defender, I would like him to start playing alongside Jagielka, that to me would be a defence for the future.

Rodwell's ability is not up for question, it's the shite manager's utillisation of that ability that is holding him back.
I saw glimpses of what he was/is capable of when playing for England, he had if I remember 5 attempts on goal, which is 5 more than he has had all season under Deadly Defensive Dave.
Under a more forward thinking manager, I think he would flourish.

Peter, Rodders is singularly held back by his lack of vision. Playing with a better team would improve anyones standing and performances.
I actually reckon Osman would look excellent in a team which moved well and gave options to the ball holder. Rodders poor vision will improve if he has more options but at the moment his failure to see movement up front is startling. He's fine with a big run from an attacker but a short movement onto space, say off the shoulder of a defender is rarely picked up.
His first touch is good, he passes well, rarely loses the ball and is begining to do the box to box well. He looks tall and elegant too which gives this appearence of 'class,' whatever that is............ but for 20m and Piennar, I too would bite 'arrys 'and off.

I'd sooner sell to Chelsea than see 'Awwy get his dirty little paws on Rodwell. Pienaar left because he thought the grass was greener on the other side, and 'Awwy only wanted him to disrupt the Everton team. Leave Pienaar where he is and tell 'Awwy to go and fuck himself. If we must sell, sell to Chelsea or City, and get Drenthe signed up.
