Tim has been a great hero to our Club.

Best that he leave now while we can still remember his past glories than linger on as a has-been.

No doubt he'll get a rousing reception when he returns to Goodison, he deserves it.

If he does go I bet he scores 8 and 10 goals between now and the end of the season!! I say stick with him.. Once he gets the 1 goal he will get a few and we need all the goals we can get.. Use him as an impact sub until he breaks his duck.

The mark of a good manager is knowing when to sell your players, Moyes has usually done well here although a few sales have been forced upon due to the well known mismanagement of the club. I would personally sell Tim now. He isn't what he used to be and both the team and Tim could do with a bit of freshening up. The only snag would be what would happen t the cash we brought in? If it's to be reinvested in the team then I say it's a no brainer.

Anthony - It's not just his lack of goals that is the problem. I love Cahill's spirit, energy and passion, but the positions he takes up need to be filled by a far more creative player. A few seasons back I was hoping we would sell Tim whilst his stock was still high. He was scoring goals, but I felt we would have scored more goals(and played much better football) as a team had a more creative midfielder, or a second striker been on the pitch.

If he were to go, I think he could score a few for QPR. He would also thoroughly deserve an ovation on his return due to his undoubted passion and loyalty to the club.

I would be very surprised if moyes let cahill go. He is clearly one of his favourites, he plays him even when out of form.

Also, losing players in january its almost impossible to replace them - even if you do manage to buy someone, the price is inflated, and they don't settle into the team until the following season.

January is a bad time to sell and to buy.

I love Tim Cahill for the very fact that opponents used to hate playing against him - he was a total pest to them and a massive goal threat.

He has lost his mojo and has not been the same since the foot injury he picked up playing for Australia. He is not a goal threat, he is no longer a pest to opponents - in fact the amount of fouls given against him makes him a liability to the team.

All footballers reach a time to go and Tim has reached that point at Everton.
A great signing, great bloke and a great player for Everton. If an offer is on the table take it and wish him well.

Some players earn the right to retire at their club. Were his club and he's our player. Maybe the only player of the Moyes generation who will go down as a legend, If only for his passion for the club.

If he want's a fresh start it's a good move for us.

Somebody mentioned he's probably on £50k a week. The fact we don't make at least that in merchandising from one of Australia's biggest sportsmen is a damning indictment on our pathetic board.

He may have been poor over the last 12 months, we all know his goals have dried up and I know we can't afford sentimentality, but I'd hate to see him in another Premiership club's shirt even more than I hate seeing Arteta in red and white.

And you can guarantee that if he does go, he'll start scoring again. I'd rather he stayed and was used as an impact sub. I still think he could do a job in those circumstances.

If he wants the move, let him, and make sure he gets a hero's welcome when/if he plays at Goodison again. If not, the club does owe it to players like him (knocked back bigger clubs earlier in his tenure) to let them finish at the club they obviously now love.

My only question comes from concern over his willingness to play for QPR after being a Milwall boy in the beginning. Would this be an issue?

Sell Cahill and that's it for me, my 30 years as an Everton fan are finished. He may not have scored for yonks but he still gives everything for the cause. Anyway he's a midfielder not a striker, who is a victim of his own brilliant goalscoring feats in previous seasons. It's not his fault he has been outscoring our shite forwards for years!

Now our team is devoid of creativity and guess what? Cahill's goals dry up. Coincedence? I think not!

I am surprised that we have not had enquiries about a few other aging ''stars'' given how everyone knows we need money desperately. Our squad needs changing and Moyes doesn't seem keen on using the benchwarmers and younger quicker, hungrier, players that we have so we need money to buy .
Yes, Timmie has been a hero but we must sell him now whilst he can still command a decent fee. We shall see what happens now that Gibson is on board.

History tells us that Moyes will not sell unless a transfer request is put in, Saha and Neville were both listed to go by the papers but Moyes was clear they were going no-where. So I don't think we will see Tim go and he has always given the impression he is loyal to Everton.

It would be nice to be at a club where we didn't need to think about cashing in on a player, but we are not, so taking emotion out of it we should sell him, he has a few years left in him and we could sell him as a good midfield player with a potential to score and score well. But if we do sell we have to accept that he might start scoring and play for 5/6 years at a high level and we have missed out. But that is a risk we take.

If he does stay and I think he will, then we have to stand behind him and the team, he has been a great servant, and as already pointed out he is a good midfield player, and his work rate is normally in the top 3, using KMs travel in a game as a measure.

Personally I am torn; I think both arguments stack up. What we don?t want is people saying sell and then he stays and does nothing and sit with a smug grin saying told you, or he saying he should stay and we sell and he does a job else where and they say told you so. But who are you being smug at, this is our club, the club we stand (now sit) and support week in week out, its the club we have sat and cried over it's the club that has given him such highs. In all the years I have supported the club this is not the worse they have been nor the best, and sure it's frustrating to watch us lose to Bolton and struggle to string a run together, but would we want to support anyone else, no way.

Neil / Alun, sentimentality aside - the guy was a very good signing but is now 33 and has been off form for a very long time, even when we still had Arteta. How much of this is due to injury or bing played injured, I dont know.

Cahills' greatest footballing asset IMO was getting into the box late/unmarked and heading goals - this he did very well. However, the rest of the package is/was always average at best. I.e. dribbling, shooting, crossing, pace, tackling, passing, creativity. Once the late runs/goals go away, there is not really much left and he doesn't bring much to the team. Yes he still gives it 110% but thats not enough when the footballing side leaves a lot to be desired.

I dont even think this story is true and even if it is Moyes probably wouldn't let him go if he was not sure of being able to reinvest the cash in the squad. However, all players come to an end and we dont have the luxury of paying someone 50k odd a week for doing f'all on the pitch. We already have enough of these - e.g. Billy!

Do you really believe he will suddenly start playing like he did 2-3 years ago? He's now 33 turning 34 towards the end of this year so the chances are we have definitely seen the best of him. If a fresh club would give him a last swansong, then all the best of luck to him but I just cannot see him doing it anymore for us - certainly not as a regular starter anyway.

Also his contract apparently runs out this year so what do you think we should do - offer him a new contract extension?

Old age has caught up with him and his all round game doesn't really warrant a starting place for us anymore when all are fit...A new club may inject a new lease of life into him but i think his best days are behind him at Everton.

Really hope you are wrong as it would be ridiculous if we were still paying Cahill around 50k a week when he's 36 years old, having offered him a 4 year contract at the age of 32!!

As I said above he's no longer a starter for me much as I think he's a legend, but should be an impact sub. I think he might start scoring again used like that.

Our whole team hasn't been inform this season except Baines and Howard. Yes Cahill hasn't scored. But in my opinion I think he just needs a well earned rest to recover from his injuries fully.

Its a shame he didnt go after the world cup for a bumper fee. I think someone has said the great managers sell at the right time, Tim and Spud could have been sold a couple of years ago for big, big fees but we took the gamble for top 4 and failed.

Great player for us, but looks like injuries have caught up on him. I would sell, but only if the club gets alll the wages and transfer fee.

Sadly Timmy is no longer a Premiership -standard player and we can't afford to be sentimental about this (either financially or in terms of points) to wait and see if he rediscovers his form. If a decent offer comes in -a big if by the way- then it's a no-brainer.

How do I know? Well that's another story.

Sure Tim has been faithful to the club and the club has been faithful to him. It's a two edged sword and at £50k per week it makes it a very difficult sword to fall onto ? unless of course you are pushed.

Both parties have honoured their contract and it's time to move on. This is an excellent opportunity for face saving and money saving and God know we certainly need the latter.

I'll be sorry to see any of our 'stars' leave but when the time is right ? the time is right ? now is that time.

I'm saddened by the invective that's been and being leveled at Tim Cahill on this and other threads on this site. Maybe he is over the hill and the time is right - I'm hoping that's not the case and he will come good again soon. And, yes, Bob Willis, he might get paid heaps for his loyalty. However, this fella has has been the difference between us winning (or at least drawing) rather than losing more times than I can remember, and for all the faux badge kissers out there, this is one guy who's genuinely tries to justify his wage every time he steps out in an Everton shirt. He is truly an Everton 'legend' and, for mine, the best Everton player of the Premier League era. It will be a truly sad day when he walks off in an Everton shirt for the last time.

Perhaps he isn't the player he used to be - in some way due to playing in a team that isn't what it used to be.

But he's been a genuinely great Evertonian in his time here and stayed loyal to us when I have no doubt he could have been tempted to look elsewhere.

Any criticism of him is grossly unfair, unsporting and un justified.

A true Everton legend indeed (especially when the likes of Pat Nevin ? who never put his heart into Everton on or off the field ? has just been afforded such a commendation).
