Cahill recommends Holman?

A news post on an AZ Alkmaar fan site (so, yes, treat with the requisite pinches of salt) claims that Australian international Brett Holman has been recommended to Everton by his teammate Tim Cahill and that he has held preliminary talks with the Blues.

The 27 year-old has expressed his desire to leave the Dutch side this summer when his contract expires and was heavily linked with a switch to Aston Villa. With the prospect of a move to Villa Park apparently growing cold, cash-strapped Everton could now be in the frame. As an upcoming free agent, Holman would only cost a nominal fee.

Averages about 5 goals a season, so yeah, sounds about right.

As an Australian I have seen Holman play for the National side for a while now. He has long been seen as an average version of Cahill but rreally came into his own in the last World Cup.

He is now looking like Cahill's heir apparent. Quality little player.

Sorry but I don't rate the Dutch league. Yes, they have produced some exceptional players but not very many in recent years and they were Dutchmen. Van Persie obviously is the standout. However, we are a club in destitution, it seems... and so we have to clutch at straws.

I don't mean to suggest that Holman would be the answer to our attacking problems but he is effectively a younger and more mobile version of Cahill. I haven't seen him play that many matched but he has always looked like a goal threat when I've seen him play.

Worth a shout if we could get him but only if its on the cheap.

Fantastic work ethic. Lots of pace, runs at defenses and never stops. I think his style would be more suited to epl. Agree with Russell at 580. Didn't think much of him until south Africa. Has been good ever since.
