Moyes looking for a Silva lining

David Moyes is believed to be monitoring the Portugal Under-21 international Adrien Silva having watched the midfielder playing for Académica Coimbra on Sunday. The Everton manager travelled to Portugal to attend Académica's 2-0 defeat by Vitória Guimarães and Silva, a 22-year-old on loan from Sporting Lisbon, is understood to have been his main focus. Sporting value the playmaker at around £5m, which may prove prohibitive to a permanent transfer to Everton in this transfer window, but the club do have financial problems and Moyes is trying to secure several loan deals before the deadline.

Radio city are running with this story, I don't know how we could fit him in whilst we've got Drenthe, Straq, Donovan and Dier on loan. Plus, I thought we needed a striker? Unless he is thinking Vic is our saviour...

I thought the loan deals maximum rule only applied for Premier League players within the same league/country.

Overseas loans aren't affected, I don't believe.

The loan rules seem quite complicated, but i hope we're on the ball with this unlike we were with the Gosling contract issue. If anyone is going to have points deducted for unwittingly breaking the rules it'd be us!

This one worries me as it appears to have some truth to it, therefore, if as Moyes has said himself we are desperate for a striker and we have very little money why are we buying two midfielders this month? Could it be that we are selling one of our players? Perhaps Rodwell or Barkley?

Excellent. We've already got 13 midfield players in the first team squad... let's buy another!

Never mind we need cover at left back, a right back who can help us win things, a winger or wingers and a goalscoring striker or strikers?

More worryingly however, can we expect to see a few departures to make way for Gibson and now Silva?

If the answer is 'yes' and it's the likes of Bilyaletdinov, McFadden, Neville and Osman (although I realise Moyes would retire before he ever considered selling his favourite pet), then all well and good. That's potential squad improvement.

Hopwever, if he's effectively getting his retaliation in first, before announcing that Fellaini and/or Rodwell are on their way, then it's a different story.

That being said and much as I have high regard for them both, has either of that duo ever, really, CONSISTENTLY, distinguished themselves in the hundreds of appearances they have made?

Perhaps, under our current parlous circumstances, if we could get £30/35 combined for them - and use the money wisely - it might not be such a body blow?

I agree with you David. More money for a no name from a no-name club seems ridiculous if the story is true. Yes, we do need a dynamic midfielder who can score goals but we have to shed some excess fat that we have now. We are carrying some under-achievers and dead weight and if not now then surely at the end of the season we should have a fire sale.

Lot of talk here about having a gazillian midfielders but do we have a real playmaker other than perhaps Drenthe? We've some strikers that Moyesie is too shy to play but, to score goals we need play makers and converters, don't we?

....... And a good dose of positive attitude would probably help!

Also agree that we need to offload some misfits like Billy, Fad etc... Somebody mentioned Dier... Is he still on the payroll ?
