Update: El Hamdaoui on the verge of signing for Fiorentina

Everton are supposedly closing in on former Tottenham misfit Mounir El Hamdaoui, according to reports in Holland.

The Moroccan has fallen out of favour at Ajax after an argument with manager Frank de Boer and is yet to appear for the Eredivisie giants this season.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claims it is Everton who are now most likely to land him before the transfer window shuts - although there is also interest from Spain, Italy and France.

It is understood that the 27-year-old would join David Moyes's side on a loan deal until the end of the season when the manager could buy him for an agreed £5m fee.

I hope so. He is among the better strikers we have been linked with so far.

He has not played a game all season and we are into February this week... He's just what we need ? a forward that will take about 3 months to get used to the pace of the Premier League.

Nothing wrong in the long term with him but we need someone now to go straight into the team to freshen it up ? and for £4 or 5 million you wont get a top forward but let's hope we do somehow.
