Vellios considered for Foxes loan

Leicester City are reportedly looking at Everton striker Apostolos Vellios as a possible target when the loan window re-opens today. However, sources close to the Merseyside club believe that Toffees manager David Moyes may be reluctant to loan out the 20-year-old Greece Under-21 forward after selling Louis Saha to Tottenham.

Vellios joined Everton on a four-year deal 12 months ago from Greek club Iraklis for around £250,000.

He made his first-team debut in April last year, ironically, going on as a replacement for Jermaine Beckford, and has scored three goals for Leicester City — against Wigan, Chelsea and Bolton — in a total of 16 appearances.

I'd also like to see Baxter go to the Championship on loan. He earned good reviews at Tranmere and it would be good to see if he can step up another level.

Dare I say it after yesterday's marathon session but I'd like to see Barkley go and play regular first team football if he's not in the manager's immediate plans. A club like Blackpool who like to attack would suit him perfectly and send him back to us a more experienced player, possibly brimming with confidence after a promotion.

I agree Stephen.

I think we have quite a few young players who will not get game time under Moyes. Loan them out and lets see how they cope with championship football.

Seemed to do Osman a lot of good.

Can't believe you had the energy today, Stephen. Ideally, it's be better if Vellios was just used at Everton, as that would be better for his development. We have four senior strikers that have all played significant amounts of football now, and that is a great number to have if you're looking for goals. Dare I say we could actually rotate part of our squad?

I think Vellios should stay and get in the first team. With Saha gone and Cahill injured, that leaves us kind of weak up front on paper, why make it worse?

McAleny and Baxter of course, perhaps even Barkley but not one of our top scorers this season.

Vellios might as well go for a bit of experience because, while Cahill is at Everton, he won't get many minutes, whether Cahill 100% fit or not.

I agree with Jimmy, I think we need the four strikers to see us through to the end of the campaign.

Vellios has poached a few, and there's no guarantee of Jelavic firing immediately, leaving us a little light with just Anichebe & Stracqualursi present.

Going off what we've seen from our four first team strikers, I think Vellios is our most natural goal threat and I'd like to see him start up top with Straq or Jelavic. The latter may prove to be a potent hitman but we've yet to see it, obviously because he's only been here two minutes.

Loan him out, let him get the experience and develop as a player. I don't think he's going to get much game time under Moyes between now and the end of the season. Same goes for Barkley, Baxter and Duffy.

I should also add that I fail to see the point of loaning-out a twenty year-old player. That strikes me as a bit odd..

I disagree in this instance Kevin. Look what the loan did for Shane Duffy's confidence and maturity. Didn't work too badly for Coleman either.

I suspect that with Moyes continuing to play just one striker then Vellios will get very little time here as he is behind Denis, Jelavic and big Vic for that one spot.

I would very much like to see how this lad might play/progress when given a run in a team and think a championship loan (with the option of course to recall him when we want) would benefit him greatly. Hopefully he'd do well, score a few goals, learn a bit more and come back to us the better for it.
