Everton to sign Suarez?

Everton are keen on Anderlecht striker Matias Suarez, according to the Metro and have sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action as Suarez's Anderlecht side were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday evening following a 1-0 home defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

The Argentine has the proven ability to not only score goals but assist others equally as well. Suarez has an impressive total of 17 goals and 17 assists in 35 appearances but despite this form has yet to earn a senior cap for the Argentina national side.

David Moyes will be looking to fill the gap left by Louis Saha who left to join Tottenham Hotspur in the January window. But Barcelona and Aresenal may be interested too...

Its "the gap left by Saha" bit that I don't understand in this report. Would that be somewhere around the half-way line on the right. Tony Hibbert can do that.

We quite like Argentinians for the moment, so if he's any good let's hope he fancies his chances with us.

Actually, I would be quite satisfied if we were to keep the players we have in our possession now. Maybe a left back, otherwise I'm quite satisfied.

Maybe not Chris but going by the Club's past history of trying to sign players who cannot get work permits they had better be sure he has the right to stay in UK.

One of those requirements is that he should have played x many games for his country and the article says "he has yet to earn a senior cap for the Argentine national side."

So there had better be pretty good other reason to get a work permit.

Years ago Derby signed an Argie striker - Esteban Fuertes, who was promptly booted from the country after it was found his EU passport was a fake.

He'd scored 1 league goal, a winner, against us. Why we didn't demand the game was replayed or awarded to us, I'll never know.

Matt, I remember that very well and felt exactly the same way. The game should have been void as he was ineligible. Or we should have just got whatever league placing prize money it cost us straight out of Derby's prize fund. It could have been up to them to recover the money from him.

Stephen I agree with that as well. People always seem to score their first or only goal against us. I wish I could think of more examples off the top of my head but the Fuertes one is always the one that springs to mind.

Nice to see the Alzheimer pills worked a treat. Carroll did indeed score the RS 1st in the Atkinson derby.

On the subject of Suarez and work permits, I'm sure we all remember Alex Nyarko whose work permit was only valid for four years of the 5-year deal we signed him on. Heard of Fuertes but didn't realise he'd been booted out of the country.

And besides, considering the worst player ever to grace the Prem appears to be the only Scouse Nigerian to exist in humankind, I'm fairly sure Anichebe must be on a dodgy passport as well...
