Spurs to price Pienaar out of reach?

Based on nothing beyond supposition, this story in the Daily Star claims that Everton are concerned Spurs could price them out of a transfer move for Stephen Pienaar that would secure his return to Goodison Park beyond the end of this season, when his loan deal from Spurs expires in the summer.

There have been suggestions by those in the know, however, that a deal to sign Pienaar permanently in the summer — presumably together with a fee — was agreed by Everton with Tottenham on 31st January.

If this summer goes like pretty much all other we could be priced out of a move for a 10 pence mix if the price of jellies goes up.

Usually when Moyes does loans there is a pre-agreed transfer price. Wouldn't be surprised if thats the case but wonder what the price is? I'll say £4m which is probably the absolute upper limit of what i'd pay for him at his age and with our resources...

Gutterpress. It was widely reported a fee of around 2.5m had been agreed but there wasn't time before the deadline so it was a loan.

There are a few sources on Twitter, inc Fourth Official who is close to EFC and very up to speed with transfers have stated that they believe the fee is agreed for the summer. I doubt Moyes wouldnt have put a clause in like with Arteta and Pienaar.

We have to concentrate on making him a permanent signing again, he has to be our priority - even if we have to sell first.

Here's a thought, if we had just paid him what he wanted in wages in the first place when he was here, then we would have probalby saved a few bob on what we may have to pay to buy him back.

On the other hand Brian if we only pay them 2.5m (the same as they paid us) then we will have saved around 3m in wages for a year when he was mostly injured....but i guess you're a more glass empty kind of guy.

Shame if we don't get him but doing deals with spurs is always hard as they want the world for players and they know he has only been showcased at Everton for them to play the market with whatever they can pull off, thats why we are such a great club, 'What you see is what you get, and Spurs are not the same and I wouldn't be surprised if all else fails he will carry on not even making the bench.
Even so we have to stand firm and see if the player himself can force something through or at least try to make them see sense.

Moyes mentioned on that Sky Sunday morning show that Spurs are 'always difficult to deal with'. Expect a bit of a niggling haggle or haggling niggle if the Face that Dripped of Wax is still in charge at WHL as I fully expect him to be.

Does he want to come back permanently? Why leave Spurs who will be in Europe next season and he's had a good comeback from injury?And with the Londoners bad run of form, he will probably go straight into the side during pre season. Add to that the expected drop in wages.
If he does want to come back, and accepts a wage cut, it will prove he really wants to play for us and that's enough for me. A creator is what we've lacked since Arteta's loss in form and subsequent transfer

Mick, i think he does want to come back. He makes great noises on twitter since he has come back. Moyes himself has said that maybe he know realises what its like to be loved at a club! I think he will stay and I think we will get him in the summer.
Brian #35 how negative are you. Pienaar wanted to go, he tried elsewhere but it hasnt worked out and he has come back to him! We will get him back for a similar fee to what we paid and he was injured for 3-4 months of the season when we didnt have him so this one has worked out ok for us!

Brian is spot on but this point goes to the heart of everything that is wrong with Everton under Kenwright. Everything is short term, sticking-plaster-on-gaping-wound, hand to mouth operations.

We sell Finch Farm to get some cash to pay off one bank loan even though we then have a long term debt commitment of £1 million a season - but that is next season's problem.

We securitise our season tickets to Bear Stearns. OK we lose out on future ST money, but it is ok, we have a lump of cash to pay off debts now.

We take out a loan in the BVI or Caymans or wherever, based on next year's sky money. OK, we will have a debt next year that we have to pay off to the BVI, and no sky money, but hey, we can always take out another loan, on the following year's promise of TV money, to pay off that debt next year.

There is no strategy to it. It is desperate stuff. And so much more costly in the medium and long term.

So yes maybe we will have a problem buying Peanuts back. Let's hope not, but if we do, I hope more people will ask the question of why we are in this situation in the first place.

He will always rely on player sales to keep his sinking ship afloat for one more year.
It will happen again this Summer same as it always does.
