Drenthe-to-Anfield rumours gather pace

18/04/2012 | Comments (42)
Rumours that Royston Drenthe has signed a pre-contact agreement with Liverpool are gathering pace, particularly on Twitter.

With the Dutchman seemingly on his way out of Goodison following one transgression too many in David Moyes's eyes, speculation in the press at the weekend suggested that Liverpool were interested in stepping in to snap him up.

Now, with his marriage seemingly over, there are suggestions that the controversial winger is looking to stay in England. Drenthe has apparently bought property in Hale which would, of course, make staying at Everton or making a switch to Anfield very handy.

A source at Anfield has dismissed the rumours, though, saying that Liverpool aren't looking closely at Drenthe.

Rumour is his marriage ended because he constantly 'arrives early'.

let him go, not good enough for us on the floor to much. Fast with a good shot but not a team man just runs in to trouble.

To be quite honest, if he thinks taking the piss and letting his team mates down is acceptable, he can go and join those no-mark shitehawks today.

Got a good shot on him but when things don't work out moans too much and does not defend.

He will fit in well there, massive ego and a huge diver

Eugene, you sure it's not because he prefers playing away to playing at home?

Quite frankly I'd like him to stay. We don't have enough "moaners", just robots moving to a beat from Moyes on the sidelines. We are as predictable as the sun coming up each morning. RD worries the crap out of the opposition and I certainly wouldn't want him playing against us; especially for that lot ! Moyes' man management is left suspect here as much as RD's temperament.

Let him do a "Nick Barmby" and disappear into obscurity after wrongly thinking that the grass is greener on the other side of the park.

I always thought he was perhaps just using us as a shop window. I say fuck him. If a player can't be professional enough to turn up to training and be motivated for a semi-final then he's quite the pleb. I find it appaling that so many on this site are excusing this kind of behavior.

Looks like this one is gathering some pace... Twitter as well as @fourthofficial who is close to EFC says he has agreed a pre-contract with LFC. Well he can fuck off, no-one is welcome at our club if they entertain an idea of crossing the park! Moyes may be the scapegoat for Saturday's loss but good on him on this one!

Rumours abound that Dempsey will have EFC and Arsenal as options at end of season! Not sure if Wenger will fancy him though; he would be a good one to replace Cahill!

Not bothered by this latest news on him, he's a liability and a prima dona. Seeya, Roy.

Stracqualursi is way the better option to keep; he works his socks off and is strong as they come.

"Moyes' man management is left suspect here as much as RD's temperament." - Why's that Steve? Every club he has been at has binned him off.

Probably the bext manager out there looked and him and told him to sling his hook.

Another idiot with a ego way above what it should be.

Yes I would like him to stay but I will not shed a tear when he signs for those gobshites, he will be in excellent company in Analfield

Isn't all of this talk about him "arriving early", being a "flop" and being "yanked off" a bit premature?

I would personally hate to see him at the RS.

200   Posted 18/04/2012 at 14:41:36

James (180) why?

I'D LOVE it!

Hope he gets a 6 year deal at 100 grand a week.

Imagine it 9 months down the line, a Sky mic is shoved into 'King' Kenny's miserable smacked-arse coloured grid.

Sky twat: "Kenny, the recent bahaviour of Royston Drenthe, imagine you're feeling very let down right now?"

KK: "Ehhh...well obviously, but ahm no here tae discuss individuals, I'm here tae talk aboot Liverpool Football Club".

ST: "Right..but when he came to your office, dropped his trousers and waved his co...".

KK: (turning 17 shades of purple) "Did you no fuckin' hear whit ah juss sez? Clean yer fuckin' ears oot...PRICK!"

(biggest ever FA fine, 16 week touchline-ban etc)

Wonderful, or as they say in Holland, 'Wonderful' (English, practically their first language)

Of course, if it turns out he's been suspended for calling Moyes "dour" then that's quite a different matter!

214   Posted 18/04/2012 at 15:53:17

If he does sign for Liverpool, or signs a pre agreement shortly, I would be questioning the nature of his no shows recently culminating in him not being available to play. I love a good conspiracy theory. Plus, I trust those twats over the park as far as I could throw Jan Molby...

Franny Porter #214
That wouldn't surprise me in the least, whatever happens they're welcome to him.

The guy will fit right into their set-up the way he was going over at Goodison and looking at the ref! I wouldn't mind but he was hardly touched when it happened. I understand players need some sort of protection but, when they have him and the Red Squirrel doing it, they'll get found out.

Drenthe to head a fuck off sized clearout for me, ALL of Moyes old faves need to piss off and we need a fresh approach. I love Moysie he, has done wonders with shite, but here goes for next season guys:

Manager = Martinez
Goalie = anyone but Howard
RB = Tyas Browning
LB = Leighton Baines
CBs = Heitinga + Jagielka
RW = Adam Johnson
LW = Pienaar
CMs = Rodwell + Gibson
CFs = Jelavic + Rhodes

Go on, Guys kick my head in for thinking ahead, Fellaini is bone bastard idle.

239   Posted 18/04/2012 at 16:52:14

The issue we have is that Everton need to buy players like this and take a sort of risk. We have done this with a few players and it has paid off but also a lot has not. The fact is that we don't have the money to spend and until this changes we will see a lot of players like Drenthe & VDM.

But if you look on the other side of players which Everton have taken a chance with, eg, Pienaar, it has worked out.
Tony J Williams
246   Posted 18/04/2012 at 17:11:18

I am going to do what I hate...

A lad I work with has a mate who knows people who work within Everton FC (not naming names etc) but he has given me loads of good info before... and he confirms that Drenthe has turned up to training bladdered twice.
Steve Guy
247   Posted 18/04/2012 at 17:13:43

Because Tony, if Moyes goes anywhere else he will have to deal with this kind of behaviour a lot more than he ever has at Everton, so he needs to prove he can handle this type of behaviour and get the best out of them. He won't always have the option of kicking them off the bus
Chris Jones [Burton]
252   Posted 18/04/2012 at 17:24:26

I'm not sure of training-ground rumours or talk of people being late for the team bus, but I do know if I was on 10% of what these guys earn I'd be fucking early for everything work-related.

Why don't these 'professional' sportsmen ever consider the fact they are fortunate and blessed, rather than 'entitled'. It does my head in, just like cheating on the park.

Apologies to Drenthe if I've been unjust in alluding to failings in his spotless behaviour ? but my regard for Moyes's sense of right and wrong (wherever else you may think of him) tells me Royston would not have been punished without good cause.

You can't allow discipline to slip ? or you end up as we did under a former regime, with academy kids apparently telling Mike Lyons to his face to fuck off.

Tony, that's just begging to end..

"Moyes let him off though coz in a practice match, he skinned Hibbo about 15 times".

Or.

"He got away with it though, coz Coleman went on a run and he looked even more pissed"
Jem Traynor
258   Posted 18/04/2012 at 17:50:52

Eugene, that's hilarious! LMAO.
if he really did that, then what can he expect? That kind of behaviour is just disrespectful no matter what.

If he has signed a pre-contract deal with them, I'd love to know what was in the contract that Everton had. I could never understand how we had "first refusal" on a player in his last year and able to go on a Bosman.

Mind you, it shows that the days of spending £115m and finishing 7th mean the mighty reds have to shop in the bargain basement.

I think he's been hot and cold, and occasionally frigid (keep the theme going) this season - WHEN he's been available for selection.

Let him take his diving ways over there then, and learn from Suarez who'll end up his new best mate.

Oh, or perhaps not.
Paul David

I wasnt aware we had first refusal.
Barry Rathbone
266   Posted 18/04/2012 at 18:14:50

He's a good player and if he ends up facing us at anfield fired up to prove Moyes wrong, there won't be a more dangerous player on the pitch.

Nick Waters
269   Posted 18/04/2012 at 18:29:11

We'll miss him unless we do sign Pienaar and/or another player with flair, pace and something called a shot from outside the box.
Straquarlarsi though - FFS! What does he ADD to the team, or even the squad?
Brian Waring
270   Posted 18/04/2012 at 18:33:20

I know Drenthe has blown hot and cold, but he's exciting, and you always feel something could happen when he had the ball. Also, I remember lads saying about Pienaar, fuck him off, Baines made him look better than he was, etc. Look how that turned out.
Stephen Kenny
271   Posted 18/04/2012 at 18:32:41

Tony,

I've heard similar from someone who works at FF and it's been covered up that he also failed a drug test.

Great player, possibly the most exciting Moyes has ever signed but I won't get on his case if he's tried with this prick, and the evidence says he's tried.

I think he could have used him for the cup then fucked him off but i understand why he never.

351   Posted 18/04/2012 at 23:24:46

For all the mazy runs he made there was always a daft moment where he gave the ball away. He has no respect for managers. So I read in an article "He was asked how often he has sex he replied what with my wife? well it seems that respect is clearly missing even for his family, if this is true.

Tony #246..

Thank god for such comment and rumour.. thats how a rumour should start..

Unless 'Ronnie Spoons' can add some extra substance to it... Bladdered at training it is for me.

Old Roys Rolls sounds like a bit of a gobshite.. linked with Liverpool - the mecca of gobshites.. He could become like a 'Limited Edition, shiny, Man of the Match, 100 club Gobshite ! '.. ( ask your kids )...

Eugene, on another post you say we need a hard man..
I ask you and other TW posters..

How many times would Drenthe have turned up late / pissed if Royle was in charge with Dave Watson as Captain ??
Once would be my guess..

I wouldn't miss him. I'd actually forgotten he played for us! He's an ok player who thinks he's far better than he is... Looks good, plays ok, but nothing special. And whenever anyone gets close enough to tackle him he throws himself to the floor like he's been shot! Thank you and good bye...
John Daley
373   Posted 19/04/2012 at 04:14:26

I was hoping Moyes would keep him purely because he has pace and that's something sorely lacking in our squad. Then again, it's not like he's the most effective at using it. More often than not he doesn't get two yards before tripping over his own testicles.

As for the 'turning up to training still pissed after a night out' rumours? Not on, but he's not the first footballer to do it and he certainly won't be the last. Besides,  I wouldn't necessarily mind it so much if he'd simply been on an old school style bonding session in a back street boozer, overdone it on the spirits and woke up covered in his own sick with Sharon Slackvag sharing his bed.

Nope, it's more the thought of how much of a massive nobhead he must be whilst out and about that has me shaking my head. I can see him now decked out in a diamanté encrusted romper suit, with trainers as white as Casper the ghosts arse and a huge pair of headphones hanging round his neck for no fucking reason at all. Strutting around like Snoop Dogg when he's about as gangsta as Gary Coleman, surrounded by a squad of semi-professional hangers on slapping him on the back while he chugs Cristal from the bottle before slipping rophenol to some ropey old Rita Sullivan lookalike. Then he wakes up in the morning only to discover he's spent all night tupping a tranny, recording a new 'hip hop banger' with Babel and Barnsey and, most embaressing of all, signed a pre-contract agreement with the red shite.

What a wanker.
