Chelsea plan £32M double swoop

29/04/2012 | Comments (79)
The Daily Star claims that Chelsea are ready to make a 'stunning' £32million raid on Everton to secure two midfielders from Goodison — Marouane Fellaini and Ross Barkley.

They are supposedly prepared to pay £22M for Fellaini, who signed a five-year contract with Everton five months ago. And Chelsea would also sign Barkley for £10m and then loan him back to Everton, if David Moyes would agree to the deal.

32mill! a loan back for the season, BK would probably throw in the Winslow and the Toffee Lady as well. You never know, Moyes may even see some of it.

I'd sell Felli no probs but Barkley? No thanks.... Anyway Felli would fetch £25-30 million alone with the going rates. I mean Henderson £20 mill...

Sell Felli, get a creative center mid for Gibson, and buy Pienaar and a right winger ? sorted... Rodders and Barkley as back-up. Football managers have an easy life, eh? :)

This is complete and utter shit. We would never agree to a loan back deal. gutter journalism. An offer for Fellaini I could see, but it's gonna have to be very high. The Barkley thing is complete shit. You loan back a player for development to a Championship club, not a top 7 club in the same league, a club only a few points back from you. This is the type of shit that has made me get sick of the premier league and following any of the news on any regular basis. I find it pathetic that the people of England support these rags with their hard earned money.

We're going to get constant speculation about Fellaini all summer, and Im sure his 'agent'' will be fueling this fire. He would be a starter for absolutely any team in the premier league. He is a magnificent player.

In my view selling him, under any circumstances, would be a complete disaster.

No doubt the vultures will circle. Such a shame that rodwell got injured after his England debut or else we could have maybe shifted him for 15-20m and then buy pienaar and shut up shop.

I could handle losing any of our players apart from jella and fella and possibly baines and heitinga. Luckily I think moyes feels the same.

Shame moyes would never sell Cahill. He deserves to be starting in a premier league team but I'm not sure it's ours anymore.

Players will come and go and with that potless chancer in charge no one is safe from the bank and his payday loans. He'll use the usual MO of unsettled player leak to the press to deflect the blame from himself and a last minute sale so no chance of spending the money from the sale.

Whether its Fellaini or Baines or Jelavic or whoever, nothing we say or do will change it whilst Black Bill is still around.

Just when we were all getting optimistic about the future and had begun to believe Davey had the players available to play the winning football of a type everybody appreciates, we learn that Chelsea are about to screw it up.

Now, I do know BK needs the money. He needs it to get the banks of his back and he needs it to provide his manager with a meaningful transfer kitty. But should he take it? Or, if these two are that good ? and most of us think they are ? should he turn down such a bid and encourage `our man` to utilise these players as the building blocks for the Everton of the future?

Whatever the decision ? and he tells us Moyes makes them all ? what we certainly don`t need is the bullshit that surrounded the Rooney sale, the destructive prevarication over Lescott, and the last minute shock over Arteta.

For all our sakes and the dignity of the Club, if he (they) say NO, then bloody well mean it. Don`t say NO and mean YES as long as it`s for £Millions more than we could ever expect ? and then take LESS than we all could have hoped for!

So, if we are to lose more Everton jewels, just do the job properly and save us us the amateur dramatics of Gordon Clegg proportions!
PLEASE!

I had already written a response in my mind to this story before scrolling through everyone else's responses, and saw Gav Ram's. But I am going to put it down anyway, with apologies to all for the repetition, and particularly to Gav:

Most clubs have to sell to buy at some point. We are selling to survive. I am heartbroken that so many Evertonians blithely enter into a debate about which players we can get away with selling from our already-tiny squad.

Once again I ask: at what point are blues going to stop shrugging their shoulders that we have no money, and start asking WHY we have no money? WHY has a chairman apparently so determined to sell the club not managed to do so in, I guess, 5 years of trying with apparently zero interest? WHY are our only two strategies for revenue either player sales or dodgy short term loans to tide us over from one season to the next, often secured on TV money we have not yet qualified for?

We have the basis of a really fantastic team, but for what it is worth I can see Maestro Fellaini leaving this summer and I can't blame him as we have zero ambition at Everton, beyond staying inthe premier league. And that dreadful situation will prevail as long as we have a dreadful Chairman whose responsibility is to set that ambition, but whose priorities seem to be either staying in power or making a fortune on the back of selling the club. The ownership debate underrpins everything else at Everton and until it is resolved we will continue to be easy meat for other clubs or lazy journalists in stories such as this.

One thing that always baffles me, why is it that Kenweright gets all the stick and the other board members barely get a mention.
As far as I'm concerned if they are not willing to invest then they have no business being there and it is they who should be pressurised into selling.their shares.

Eric, I agree Felliani isn't worth 22 million. He is worth double that when using Andy Carroll as the yardstick.
Chris Matheson is right it is heartbreaking how we talk about selling our best players but if we are going to, let's not get had off by the so called shyster big four.
We have yet to see the best of the big fella and I do think he genuinely loves the club. I will be sad to see him go.

If a real stupid offer came in for Fellaini, don't forget these idiots paid £50 million for Torres, I think Everton would have to sell. Providing the manager gets all the money to bring in players, I could live with that... but don't sell him on the cheap.
Mike Allison
451   Posted 29/04/2012 at 10:21:49

Using Andy Carroll as the yardstick, Fellaini is worth about £140M. In a non-desperate Liverpool world, £32M might get me to sell Fellaini if I knew which four quality players I'd buy with the money and they wanted to come and I could get them for the right price. It wouldn't get you near Barkley.

But actually I think Ray has hit the nail on the head. Especially as Chelsea agreed a deal on a midfielder yesterday and don't even know who their manager will be next season. Not to mention having a Champions League finalist midfield as it is.

We are set up as a feeder club.

Lads who wouldn't normally get the opportunity at Chelsea, ManU etc get a shot here and if they do well and are ambitious off they go.

It is the grey haired theatre impresario elephant in the room, Moyes seems quite happy with it and many fans seem oblivious to it.
Michael Hardy
455   Posted 29/04/2012 at 10:31:52

I agree with Mike that £32-35 for Fellaini would be a decent deal but ONLY if we could bring in three-four quality players before the window shuts.

Every Blue has to get use to the fact that we're a selling club. We have an awful board who don't want to put a penny in. So we have to SELL to buy and that's all there is to it. The only other alternative is that we keep hold of all our players and try and bring back Pienaar and strengthen the squad with three-four loan deals and free transfers or sell Fellaini these are our ONLY options.

464   Posted 29/04/2012 at 11:21:36

Andy, I understand the way the majority shareholders are setup that they all need to agree a share price if the sale would give majority shareholding control to a new buyer. They all very conveniently closed rank back in the days of AGMs and are thick as thieves.

BK brought them all to the table and each as useless and anonymous as each other. It has been asked on many occasions as to what they actually bring of any value but this article is about selling players, the sale of players is all we have left to balance the books. Unless we make a significant profit on the sales then the model isnt capable of replacing what its gotten rid of and thus flawed; other teams sell and change we more often than not sell and pay debts.
Danny James
479   Posted 29/04/2012 at 12:06:35

I would hate to see Felaini go but i think anything over £30m should be considered. Even with our board, we should get a decent enough chunk to get a replacement

Im sure Man Utd didnt want to sell Ronaldo, Arsenal Fabregas and Man City didnt want Teves to go either. Its an inevitible part of football

The only criticism I have of Moyes (apart from Liverpool away) is that he doesnt know or maybe even appreciate the art of 'out with the old to make way for the new'. Jags, bought for £4m should have gone for about £15m a year or two ago so that a younger defender could have been bought for about £8m, with more potential, and could have been sold for about £20m within a few years and so on. That way over a period of about 5 years we end up with a better team of players, worth more plus we are still putting back in the club to chip away at debts etc

Barkley at the moment isnt worth £10m but in a year or two he could be worth a lot more. It makes no sense entertaining any bids for him at the moment

BTW I agree that the Caroll scale should be used when putting a price on our players, so where is Jelovic & Fellani on the Caroll scale; £50 mil & £35 mill respectively

As Michael Hardy as mentioned, we are a selling club, and besides the players mentioned in morning papers and on Sky, my worry is Jelavic, after he has appeared in the Euro's for Croatia, and hopefully does well?
His start for Everton has already alerted the big money clubs, in this country, I am sure in Europe as well?

All this without a permanent manager? Paper talk!
Jim Knightley
489   Posted 29/04/2012 at 12:28:48

Yes, it is an easy story to construe; Fellaini, wonderful of late... who should we link him with? Chelski. Imo, he is more likely to go to Manchester United or City than Chelsea, given their plethora of central midfield options; Essien, Mikel, Romeu, Lamps (only 1 more year though), Ramires, Meirelles, Marin now... A bizzare story.

Necessity however dictates we sell, and as much as we all like Fellaini, if we could get £22mil-25mil for him, bring in Pienaar, a couple of loans, one of the very good frees (Hoilett) and buy a couple, we would ultimately improve our team and squad.

I hope though, that we sell Jags to Spurs in a deal involving Pienaar, as they are desperately in need of a centre back, and we desperately need Pienaar. We could get some money on top, give some to the bank and maybe fund the wages for a couple of frees or buy a player.
Matt Traynor
491   Posted 29/04/2012 at 12:32:37

Nick #486, it would be paper talk as you and others suggest if it weren't for the fact that their owner has a penchant for buying the occasional player that he wants, not necessarily the manager. Mourihno went because of it.

However with the rumours of a clear out at Chelsea come what may in the finals, and with a new manager, they may well be looking at players.

Thankfully our Chairman would never undermine his manager by going out and spending £50m on a "vanity" purchase.

Michael Hardy and Norman Merrill - you illustrate exactly my point at 431. WHY should we acccept that we are a selling club? Why shrug our shoulders and think oh well, there is no alternative? There is a solution and that is to force our board out. Keep the pressure on Kenwright and, yes, Andy at 443, the other faceless, useless members of the board you draw attention to. Keep asking the questions and keep encouraging other blues to ask WHY rather than accept mediocrity without a fight.

agree totally. SAF has made a career on many things, including knowing the time to get rid of players. Jags should have gone for me last summer. Build a defence around Heitinga and get a younger CB in, Scott Dann etc. We, like many clubs of our financial Ilk have to be a bit less emotional around transfer dealings

I suppose thats the downside of always being far better towards the end of the season. The rich clubs start making a list of targets our players just as our players start catching the eye.

I would want more than £22m based on what they paid for that joke of a centre half Luiz.No doubt along with Baines and Jelavic that Fellaini is one of our best players but if they come in for him i'd expect him to want to go and cant see the club standing in his way if we get top dollor for him.

£22m, what a bunch of jokers. He has improved massively, will probably have a sell on clause, so it's going to have to be more than that. Perhaps it's the same journalist who thought we'd get 5m for baines.

If they only have £32m to spend they can have Neville and Cahill. :-)

If our illustrious board preferred to let Pienaar go for peanuts rather than give him wage parity with Arteta, then I'm afraid that nothing will surprise me at the behind-doors shenanigans that obviously take place. Look at the facts: Pienaar held out for a parity wage with our highest earners and he deserved it... he was allowed to go for a pittance. Now we are clamouring for him to come back at a higher cost than we sold him for.
In the meantime back at the ranch... more money has been wasted on re-employing Weir and Ferguson plus a taking on of two discards in McFadden and Hahnemann ? neither of whom were wanted at their respective clubs, who are in a lower leagues than we are.

If we had given Pienaar his money and tied him to a contract for a few years, we would not be in this embarrassing position. So much for business!!! This board is made up of millionnaires FGS so why is it that they fuck up continually in their business dealings at Everton??

Why don't the fans see this bungling and castigate the bums who have created this situation? We should never have ever been in this position financially and the club is wasting money on giving jobs for the boys instead of strengthening the squad with GOOD SIGNINGS!!!

I haven't bought a newspaper in twenty years. Frankly I'm surprised there's still a market for the medium in the 21st century, what with 24 hour news channels, radio and most importantly the internet.

Occasionally I read the sports pages of one I find lying around, where there'll be the classic story "person x COULD move to club y if ..." which means - the journo is speculating to fill in bit of a column and get fans of two clubs buying the rag to read more. It's so formulaic and cras it's laughable.

I did laugh the other day though when the BBC news fella said that "Pepe Gaudiola is wanting a sabatical from football and so could be the next manager of Chelski"

Exactly! Moyes' biggest defect is that he is not Alex Ferguson.

Give me strength. We all wish that we had a manager like Ferguson, but I think this is true also of every other club in the league.

As for "he doesnt know or maybe even appreciate the art of 'out with the old to make way for the new,' ditto for all of the other managers who need to balance the books, such as O'Neill, Jol, Lambert, McLeish, Pulis, etc...etc... If it were so easy all of these managers would be doing it as a matter of routine and then we really would be in the shit.

507   Posted 29/04/2012 at 13:10:37

I am worried about interest in Jelavic. I cant believe how clinical he is. My concern is if someone bid about £18m for him we would sell as the profit margin would be so great but I cant see any other striker fitting into our system so well.

If we were to sell any of our valuable players I would consider Bainsey. I know that may seem ridiculous to most but i honestly believe we are a better balanced attacking team without him

If we just using his attacking skills on the overlap it wouldnt be so bad but so many times we pick the ball up, put our foot and either wait for him to catch up or pass it back to him around the half way line and let him run in field with the ball. It is at times like he is a deep lying playmaker. Without him we have been attacking much more swiftly, switching from right to left far more effectively and stretching the opposition more across the park whilst giving them less recovery time to reorganise.

Whenever I watch Baines for England he looks far less effective a player, almost ordinary because they dont make him the centre of their attacking play and he sees far less of the ball.

I hope the team have learned how easy it is to play without him because next season we should just utilise him flying down the left flank whipping crosses in. He hasnt the football brain to be carrying the ball into opponents area and threading in killer passes
Mark Pierpoint
508   Posted 29/04/2012 at 13:29:13

Glen, the difference between the managers you state and Moyes is significant. None of them have had to know the time to move players on really.

Stoke have money, the don't have to generate money to buy. Every year in the Premier league they have bought in players without selling. O'Neill was the same at Villa. Jol same at Spurs and hasn't been at Fulham long enough to make the comparison relevant. Mcleish at Brum was always battling survival, so long-term thinking was probably never at the forefront of his mind.

Chris Matheson , how are we going to force the board out, this is their investment, it's obvious they take money out the club. The club earns them money. So in a business sense (because they clearly don't care about the club) why would they walk away from an investment?

Moyes will keep the club in Premier League mediocrity and keep making the board money.

It would be a disaster to sell Barkley now, he'll be worth much more in the future. And if we can't get near £30 million for Fellaini then DON'T sell.

Danny James(507)

Got to disagree with you on Baines. I think he can play for anyone and is actually made for international football.

Baines is just starting his international career and is getting to grips with it. It took Owen Hargreaves about 20 odd caps to get his head round international football and that was playing for Bayern.

Very few players walk into international football and just pick up their club form. Its even harder for defenders where organisation and communication is key.

Its even harder again when your trying to play your way into the World Cup squad, Gerrard is playing left hand side and swanning off into the middle and leaving you exposed and without cover!!

It took Baines a little time to settle in here at Everton and his personality may mean a similar settling in period for England. Never under-estimate how much personality and mentality can affect a players performance.

Take the cocky, swaggering Ian Wright of Arsenal. He turned into a lamb for England. For me he was almost too desperate to do well, he tightened up and didnt have anywhere near the same confidence as the devastating player he was domestically.

Baines neeed a bit of time and he also lost some exposure to the squad after being ridiculously binned from the World Cup squad. Capello soon realised though.

This will be Ashley Coles last tournament and Baines, if he believes, will be the next England left back.

Plus when Bayern are sniffing around you, you know your a player. At Everton we're unbalanced cos the sides unbalanced, not because of Baines. He's a top player.

Michael you are dead right, they hold the ownership and they hold the aces as a result. So there is no easy answer . The campaign to remove them will have to be long and sustained, because as things stand most Evertonians don't care sufficiently, they are becoming accostomed to and accepting of the mediocrity that you identify. The only way forward is to just keep asking the questions and keep refusing to accept the lies as the answers the give us.

And to return to the original post, it may take the further sale of our best players without matching inward investment for more blues to wake up.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but when it comes to Everton transfer dealings, it's magnificent!

Clearly, our players command the highest transfer fee from a suitor when they are at their best. So, for instance, many on here wish we would have sold Cahill 2-3 years ago, when he was in his pomp, scoring for fun, but would have yielded the maximum amount.

His form has since dipped, causing may to call him useless, and worse. But are these the same people claiming now that we should build a team around our current best players (e.g. Fellaini, Jelavic, Baines, Heitinga), rather than sell them on now for top dollar? The same people who still say we should have kept hold of Lescott and Arteta at all costs? I wonder...

Bobby 515

I would have Baines over any other English left back. The point I was trying to make was that He doesnt look as effective for England as us because England dont rely on him as a creator of goals as much as we do. If they did he would look exactly the same for England as he does for us.

We need to put less focus and reliance on him as a creator/playmaker in the way England do as it impacts on our effectiveness (12 goals in the 3 games hes missed)

He has played that many consecutive games that I think it is entrenched in the players mind to keep giving him the ball all the time. You shouldnt rely on a full back like that and the players have shown they dont need too in these last few games. Perhaps as fans we might start to realise the same

Not many better in the league than Fellaini? Has everyone forgotten how Spearing and Gerrard ran all over him two games on the run? If he's the best in the league why were we absolutely abysmal for the first half of the season? Pienaar is our best midfielder by a mile, I'd sell Fellaini twice over if it meant we could keep Pienaar. Fellaini is a decent player but he's hardly going to be turning out in el clasico any time soon. If Chelsea offered 25 million for him I'd bite their hand off.

Even if we did sell both players for this money, we ain't going to see more than half of it. Do any of you really think that the banks would not be at our front door first before the post man had even arrived with the cheque. The money would never be the club's to begin with, let alone Moyes'.

As for getting in three or four quality players, I doubt it. Firstly, everyone else would know that Moyes had money to spend for a change. Prices would go up. Secondly the banks would not leave us enough for three or four quality players. Thirdly, once the dust had settled, how would we afford the wages of three to four quality players?

In my mind, if we have to sell for big money, sell one player, hand two thirds of the money straight to the bank and then try and buy two decent players with what we have left. Failing that, try and buy one decent like for like replacement and spend the remaining money on paying Gueye, Barkley, Duffy and Garbutt's wages when all fulltime squad members next season. This would allow us to offload the likes of Yobo and Anichebe and still have a squad of players likely to get playing time.

Fellaini imo is a good footballer and on song, VERY effective (he must run fucking miles during a game), however to be effective, he absolutely needs those around him to be doing their bit.

When they don't, Fellaini suddenly looks caught in no-man's land and looks a bit of a puddin'.

I remember early on in Yobo's Everton career, when he was playing in a solid defence, he looked great.

As the years went on though, he ended up getting into trouble covering for others (particularly an increasingly slower Stubbs) and was often caught in the middle of nowhere.

Result "Fuck him off..." etc

I remember him looking superb for Nigeria and shite for us and couldn't figure it out.

Then it occurred that all their defenders had incredible pace and consequently, Yobo never had to leave his CH position.

Yesterday at one point (at two nil I think) I noticed Fellaini very deep in our half defending a Fulham attack, basically where Distin should have been.

Very conscientious and all that but I thought he shouldn't have to be that deep and that he's going to be absolutely goosed.

Roy Keane used to do all that box-to-box stuff for Utd but completely different 'build' of player.

Richard Dodd , if they are not taking money out the club then what are they doing there? They're not investing in the club, but they still stay on the board....so it's obvious they're there for financial reasons.

I'm assuming that we still need to make a profit on transfer dealings this Summer, so if Fellaini needs to go then so be it. In retrospect we should have cashed in on Jag when he was at the peak of his value. Would like to keep Barclay and if we could sweeten the deal with Chelsea by taking Josh McEachran off their hands then it might be a good bit of business.

They are there for three reasons:-
1. They enjoy the reflected glory (dubious)
2. They are hoping for a profitable takeover (unlikely)
3. They can`t get out (unfortunate)

Daily Star!!! Says it all! Load of Crap.
DM won't sell Felli OR any of our Most Influential players, it would set us back years in going forward and that's IF he got the money back to re-invest! But still, The Daily Star....

Some interesting points, it's just so frustrating that nothing will change anytime soon, when we need it the most. I think even with potential buyers, the board will be very greedy but like I said before it's their business.

544   Posted 29/04/2012 at 16:47:46

No!! Just say No to the Board selling these good players!! If so, they will have to keep them and they have to play then we demand that they re-invest in the team.

We have a foothold with this talent as has DM and we helped them develop into what they are now, a small investment would see us push for CL league next season!

Fuck the Board! Even Fuck the player's!! If Pienaar really does want to come back then he can make Spurs know that! And they WILL have to sell back to us for roughly the same price!! Hence BK can re-mortgage something, if needs be? And we can move on, with a solid team primed to start the season on a high!!! EASY!!!

It's pie in the sky, gutter press but If we were to get £32M for fellaini alone that will do nicely. Barkley is the future so it's too early to trade him in until he is worth £20M plus. I think fellaini is a really good player but he has too many flaws to be a great player which i am surprised other teams haven't taken advantage of recently like his temperament. I think there are better players out there than him. I will be sorry to see him go mind but we need the cash.

Reading through some of the posts here really brings home the lack of expectation at Everton. Hopefully this doesn't carry too well with DM as I think it doesn't and hope he put's his foot in the door to make his feeling's known!

Now is the time to push on (again) and try to achieve something next season; IF the club starts to sell to cash in for profit and buy in unproven (at current players' levels) then what is the point in the first place! Really anyone please answer that? What is the point?

Doddy

1. You can't get glory by asset stripping to bare bones and ending up with a busted business model - their doing no one elses

2. Carpet bagging - so QED yes out to line their own pockets which I would have no problem had they spent a single penny beyond buying their shares but they haven't

3. No one besides the collective is stopping them selling their shares, a lesser shareholder could sell theirs for face value and not relent majority control thus sell at face value but they haven't which reverts back to item two - carpet bagging chancers

Fellaini is different from most midfield players so comparing him to theirs is a waste of time! We were playing good football all season long there was just no-one to finish off the moves! Simple as that. Now we have every dirtbag on the board or other's boards wanting to cash in or re-invest! JOKE!!! MONEY AND FOOTBALL - akin to OIL AND WATER!!!! ask BP/Gulf of Mexico's ecosystem!

Gav and Doddy and anyone else - I am sure you have seen Simon Magner's excellent article on here a couple of weeks back but it offers a plausible explanation for the Board's financial position and why Kenwright is refusing to sell his shares (or should that read, SIr Philip Green's shares) .

Chris I've posted on here many many times about that tax dodging snake and how he has form for using BVI companies, Earl never had yet suddenly one sprung up to buy Gregg's shares with Earl as a front for the fund. The other quotes about whose boat Wyness was sacked on etc etc are folklore

Kieran (528) you say..

"Even if we did sell both players for this money, we ain't going to see more than half of it. Do any of you really think that the banks would not be at our front door first before the post man had even arrived with the cheque. The money would never be the club's to begin with, let alone Moyes'"

Agree and I imagine there must now be even more pressure from the bank, with Everton having lost the revenue of roughly 6000 supporters from 2004.

(2004 average 38,837, present 32,878)

If it were to stay that way over the next 5 years, my guestimate is that would be over 15m lost.

Thats the thing Eugene, revenue has probably declined. I remember four or five years ago season ticket sales went through the roof and attendences had never been as high at Godison. Higher league finishes added a couple of million to the pot as well. It might not seem that much in relation to the gravy train perception of the Premier League, but to a club in our financial situation, two to four million of a difference each season is huge.

619   Posted 29/04/2012 at 21:37:43

The money lost through the gate is nothing compared to what is gained by finishing in a higher place in the league. I dont believe BK and the board would be so comfortable if we started to slide down the table every year, resulting in huge loss of revenue. That is the bottom line, at the moment they just dont feel that the fans make much difference to the balance sheet, therefore adding to the contempt that they show/have for us.

Chris and Gavin @ 555 and 560 respectively, and Gavin, I have read many of your comments on this exact subject, but is there any EVIDENCE of who controls the shareholdings? Other than the shareholder ? Also where do the BVI fit in and, again what evidence is there. I am not having a go at you, but am really interested to know what is what please? I get the Accounts each year and am Ok at reading them, I think. But I am missing the sub plot

A worrying trend, Eugene, that our average league attendance this season will be approx. 33,000 (the Newcastle game should bump it up to this figure). This would be our lowest since 1994/95, strangely, our Cup-winning season !

However, in common with 94/95, we will have picked up substantial gate receipts from these Cup games (45% of each match, I believe), which includes an 87,000+ crowd for the semi, as well as the two Sunderland games, which also topped 80,000 combined.

The product on the pitch has clearly not been attractive enough this season, and this plays a large part in determining crowd size. Recent events have made us all feel more optimistic about next season, however, so I'm sure the decline won't be terminal. Who knows, the "Jelavic Factor" might just provide the same spike upwards that the "Rooney Factor" did 10 years ago.

624   Posted 29/04/2012 at 21:58:17

Dean (619) - BK certainly does treat us with contempt and might not give a shit about the potential loss of millions, but the bank certainly will.

In fact they'll be looking at every bean and if Everton losing paying customers (ie; money) is a trend, they'll be aware of it.

You're right, 15,000,000 over 5 years is nowhere near the TV money, but for us it's a Fellaini or (god forbid) a five year deal for Moyes.

And to the bank it's cold hard cash.

Ian, its pretty well known that Tina and Phil Green are two of the largest tax evaders this country has seen, articles like this one which were unchallenged explain the use of the BVI for BHS shareholders, the BVI has laws which prevent the disclosure of directorships and are havens for secrecy - http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/uncovered-greens-empress-of-arcadia-6351745.html.

Search as you will for all of Earl's previous business, and its there to find, not one mention before or after the creation of BCR Sports fund in the BVI for him to use and plenty of reports hinting at Green especially with his very close association with Earl during the Wyness chase across the Med as told by Wyness.

The disclosure of Green isn't likely to appear in the accounts as aren't any unsecured loans or gentlemen's agreements in place with Green over his previous "friend of the club" assistance. In his ramblings to the BU, BK claimed to be owed money by the club but this also has never appeared in the accounts so if it doesn't then who owes who as a loan to the club is a legitimate item to list there?

As has happened frequently in recent seasons, we finish strongly, when there is no trophy left to win and 4th place is out of reach.

Net effect is to advertise our better players for the summer shopping window. Is this a coincidence or someone's plan?

658   Posted 30/04/2012 at 10:22:04

Not saying I believe this particular report, but ...

ALL our players are for sale at the right price - Moyes will be told "sell to buy" this summer - we thought DM wouldn't sell Arteta (or Pineaar) - he was forced to.

If Rodwell had been fit 2H-Season I think he would have been the sacrifical lamb this summer. Now?

Financial reality I'm afraid.
Chris Fisher
833   Posted 01/05/2012 at 10:48:46

Daily Star! The only player I can see us agreeing to sell is Rodwell if anyone wants him. If we make a few good early signings, the main one being Pienaar, I can't see anyone really wanting to leave at the moment.

In my opinion, I think for players like Marouane and Baines, next season will be make or break; if we do well and break back in to Europe and possibly win a trophy, they will stay for the forseeable future... but, if not, they may well want to move on to win things. I have a feeling that next season is going to be one to remember.

836   Posted 01/05/2012 at 10:50:43

Fellaini will have a clause in his contract "if a club offers this etc"...and it's only natural that clubs with a pile of money will be looking at him, likewise with Baines..if we were to get a very good offer for him,i would let him go and buy the Celtic left back Izaguirre, and still have a few pound left over.
Johnny Heitinga is another player i think clubs will be watching closely at the Euro's and i believe if he gets a sniff with a top club he will force the move.
The simple fact is that in our current financial state we will always have clubs with money looking at our best players, that is the simple reality in all business.
I would not at all be surprised if a club did come in for Jelavic especially if he's on form at the Euro's.

It's bloody obvious that the major part of any sales will have to go to the moneylenders; we'd be lucky to have enough left for the police bill
We will not improve the side by selling players whose quality we can't replace - Liverpool were mugged and Newcatle were able to reinvest their profit
We won't be able to do similar - and you all (including Richard) know it
Players aside, we've nowt left to mortgage or sell and our borrowings against future earnings has condemed the club to a sisyphean financial struggle
