Everton are apparently rivalling Wigan Athletic and Fulham for Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman.

The Dutchman is on the market after the Spanish side's relegation from La Liga this season and is also attracting interest from Holland.
There are also unsubstantiated rumours on Twitter that the Blues are interested in bringing Park Ji-Sung to Goodison from Manchester United.
Elsewhere, Oscar Cardozo has been told he can leave Benfica and is being linked with Chelsea and Everton, though quite where the Blues are supposed to get the reported £7m it would cost to land him is anyone's guess.

De Guzman was a class act before he got crocked a few years ago - now he's very second rate. A big fat 'no thanks' from me

De Guzman is quality, really got his career back on track in Spain after a good first season with Mallorca and then a move to Villarreal.
He did have a bad injury when at Feyenoord but seems to of got over it and I mentioned this lad 2, 3 seasons ago when he moved to Mallorca for free and felt he would've been a good signing then but if we could sign him on the cheap now that Villarreal have been relegated and will need to cut the wage bill and things he would still be a very good signing IMO.

Not arsed about that, more worried about the news LFC have officially approached Martinez.
Bad bad feeling he'll end up there and rebuild into an all singing all dancing successful outfit, and worse still he'll do it relatively cheaply.
Please God the idiots who support that club hound him out a la Roy before he lays foundations.

Barry - why does everyone gets excited about Martinez? His teams play well in about 8 games a season. Moyes team start in jan, his start in march.
They'll hire him and sack him. Flavour of the month, unheard of in 5 years time.

Excellent for Malloraca last year but didn't see much of him this year for Villareal. OUt of our range I'd imagine and I don't think Moyes will ever sign another Dutch man. It's bad when Heitinga is the most grounded of the three he's taken so far.

I saw his Swansea rebuild first hand absolute revolution in a way thought impossible in the lower divisions the foundations of which took them to the Prem.

No manager other than an ex-kopite will work out at LFC while Stevie Me and Carragher are there.
As with a number of clubs who spend lots of money it is a full time job just managing the personalities and cliques.
Then you have Lawrenson, Dogleash, Hanson and Thomson poking their noses in.
It would take a Mourhino to sort them out and Martinez is certainly no Mourhino.

As for transfer rumours I would much sooner have Pienaar put to bed before we start any other signings.
I just hope we dont do our usual of waiting till the last minute to save wages during the Summer.

Personally I hope the Dark Side hire Martinez. He's never played at the highest level and he's never managed at the highest level. He'll be eaten alive by the kopite mafia that still hangs around the club back-stabbing everyone. Better that than they get someone who will rescue their flagging fortunes.

Can't see Swansea being relegated next year. That is a ridiculous claim. Rogers is a class act. Let the redshite have Martinez but I don't want them getting Rogers. Wigan have always struggled and I can't see Martinez doing much at Rs. Great appointment.

Liverpool are in a bit of a spiral. Without a playing track record and a career without success in a top job if it doesnt go well early on he will be absolutely fried.
He will take the stored up fury that Dogleash should have received.
A fan base that thinks they should be after someone like Guardiola will hardly take kindly to him having an indifferent start.....the board will need to have balls to stick with him, they may even turn on them as well.

Martinez is a good manager who seems to be able to spot a bit of talent and get average players to raise their game. He's exactly what they need. I thnk he'll go on to do big things in the game. I just hope thier too stupid to see it.
Re: Villareal. Collina may have disallowedf the goal but it would only have taken us to extra time. Based on the whole of the previous two games we would have been beaten anyway. They were several classes above us.
