They are going Belgian crazy! Courtois, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku and possibly Fellaini.
They could be a force in Brazil these Belgians, with all those above plus Kompany, Vermaelen, Vertonghen, Dembele, Defour and Witsel.

I don't know Belgian, but I'm going to presume that "Le Soir" translates to "Daily Mail".

We get the basics of a GREAT team and then our star midfield man goes... Then the guy who links best with Pienaar goes... Do we want to play well ALL season or just the back end?

We have supposedly done well financially this year SO WHY CAN'T WE KEEP THE TEAM TOGETHER??

Er, Edward, no-one has gone... Chill out. You're gonna have a tough summer if you react like this to every rumour.

No chance unless it is a loan deal for Lukaku and nothing else Fellaini is a proven Premier League player and therefore should cost the European Champions £25 Mil at least! Simple. I suppose this idle chatter is going to be more and more the norm as the close season drags out.

Chelsea would consider letting us have somebody who they have clearly found not to be 'the new Drogba' and have rarely let near the first team, for one of, if not thee, best young midfielder in the country? Thats mighty good of them.

Will gladly take 50mn and no exchanges thank you very much. Love the Fella to bits, but if an offer that is too good to be true comes along, then no one is "not for sale"

Nigel, do you work for Barclays?

I only ask as they'd be the ones seeing the bulk of anything we get for..well, anyone.

Well said Eugene.

It is OK talking telephone book numbers for transfer fees and people getting excited but they do not realise how big Bill's black hole is.

Please tell us then, as you clearly must have evidence to back up your statement! Or, are you just making ludicrous statements to stir the pot? Either way, where is your proof of these allegations?
The accounts will be out soon, maybe then would be a good time to make such suggestions, or maybe not!!

So you dont consider 24 million a year in "unexplained" operating costs up from 1 million when Kenwright took over to be a black hole.

You obviously dont consider mysterious loans at high interest rates from BVI to be black holes either.

Depends on your perspective on Kenwright I suppose.

Without actual proof that those operating costs are spurious and not similar to other clubs in our league, then no, without proof I will reserve judgement.

You are obviously someone who likes a little conspiracy theory. No problem with that, just your firm insistance that Kenwright is the culprit. Personally, I think he is the patsy for those members on the board who show no love towards the club, but who openly support another club. That for me speaks volumes.

As for the loans. When no normal revenue source is axailable, people make some poor choices. Kenwright is not alone in that realm.

Jay,
why don't you quote the page and line number of the club accounts for your concerns rather than questioning others' perspectives?

Boys boys boys.....so many times I have seen you go crazy when Chelsea has been mentioned in transfer rumors.....Relax...This happens every year that they upset our best players, but they never buy....how long is it since we last sold anyone to chelsea? anyone who remember that? cos I sure don't.

If they bid a sufficient amount of money for Fellaini...we should sell. we can fill all our holes in the team for the money.

I prefer to sell to chelsea next time, rather than to one of the teams we already have fed our best players to, like Utd, City and Arsenal....let's spread them all over rather than making one team greater.

I dont disagree that there are other forces at work but Kenwright brought "friends of Everton" on board and it was Kenwright who in a very distasteful way engaged in a smear campaign against Paul and Anita Gregg whose only sin was to query the suitability of Kenwright as chairman and the structure of true blue holdings which Gregg thought was deterring further investment in the club!!

The £24M "other operating costs" is not unusual on a high level balance sheet and doesn't signify anything dodgy. The other costs will be listed in other documents.

If you can show that it's dodgy practice then do so rather than insinuating.

The background to the loans from the BVI is simple. The banks won't lend to the club and we have to borrow to survive. We can't complain that we can't spend to compete and then complain about borrowing to do so.

Dean, if you can find any of the Deloitte's reports showing a comparable club to Everton with unexplained "other operating costs" running into at least 25% of their total annual income, I'd appreciate it.

Gavin, the null hypothesis is that what's written on the signed off accounts is correct and legal unless it can be shown to be otherwise.

Dean #643 "Without actual proof that those operating costs are spurious and not similar to other clubs in our league, then no, without proof I will reserve judgement."

But don't you find it a bit strange that the Chairman of the club can't explain what these "other operating costs" are and is actually surprised at the mention of them?

Not to mention that nobody else at the Club can explain what they are beyond "85p in the pound goes to Finch Farm"

And it's not as if it is a piddling sum, it's 30% of our expenditure that nobody at the Club is able / willing to explain!

Eric Myles

"The 24MM "other costs" is not unusual on a high level balance sheet"

What IS unusual is that it's 30% of the company income and can't (or won't) be explained by the company officers.

Martin
what is your definition of a "high level" balance sheet.

It is not mentioned anywhere in accounting standards.

As Eric has already pointed out Audited accounts are no indication of fact. They are what the directors make them as the auditors get out of jail card is that the directors have provided the information on which the accounts are based.Granted auditors will check certain things but if you know anything about audting you will know it is a very imprecise science.

One suspected EFC "shadow" director is allegedly defrauding the tax while another existing director has a record of taking companies into liquidation.

My opinion was expressed on the basis that selling players for inflated fees will not necessarily mean Moyes will get a decent transfer budget based on last Summer's litany of lies.

"Other operating costs" are in the income statement, not the balance sheet. They feed through in the form of our usual annual losses.

I don't think many people would have a problem with them increasing over the years (everything does cost more, our turnover has also gone up..), however it's the fact Bill Kenright has been unable to explain the figure that's the issue.

None of us expected him to churn out a breakdown but we did expect him to have some idea why it's increased over the years. 80% of the costs are probably related to two or three expenses. It's a simple question you would ask in his position. Not necessarily because he's a chairman, but also because he's an investor and of course has our clubs best interests at heart and hence any increase in other operating costs deters paying debt / spending money on players.

Excellent with ENRON !!
PUT A FEW EXTRA LETTERS IN AND WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT COMPANY !!
I shall use it - with your ok - whenever I sibmit a comment.
Martin is a big believer in show me the section, piece, article, statement etc etc etc
ENRON sums up everything.
Look at Rangers.
Not one person - especially the Club accountants - knew they were in so much debt.
It's no good saying well everyone else is lying. We are only interested in our club.
Maybe thats why the 85,000 people Bill told us have been interested in buying us - including the guy in the Manchester bedsit, haven't actually persued us.
