Napoli have entered the "race" to sign Leighton Baines according to a report in the Mail, though Everton's reputed asking price of £20m is likely to deter the Serie A side who are looking to replace Milan-bound Andrea Dossena.

Meanwhile, the Manchester press are doing their best to keep the speculation linking the England international with a move to Old Trafford alive, suggesting that United will need to increase their bid to £20m if they are to land Baines... this despite the fact that Everton insist they have not had any contact regarding the left back, let alone an official bid.

Leighton Baines took a while to settle in at Everton, when he moved the short distance from Wigan. There was talk of homesickness being a problem for him when the England World Cup squad was selected a couple of years ago (although this was denied). None of the speculation about him moving from Everton for a big fee takes into account whether the man himself would want the upheaval of moving away from a club where he is close to his roots and loved by the fans. Pienaar?s experience must have taught him a lot. My guess is the only club he would consider moving to would be Manchester United, and he would not be guaranteed a first team place there.

20mil is a good price for a left back. Sell if Utd offer that.

Baines took a while to settle in at Everton because Lescott was playing out of his skin at Left Back - it was only when there was an injury in the centre of defence that Baines was able to seize his chance and seize it he did - with both hands and that wonderful left foot of his.

Personally, I'd not settle for less than £25 million or £20 million and Patrice Evra for Baines... simply because it would wind the kopites up so much.

Another club joining the 'race' can only be a good thing if true. If the guy is leaving anyway, then may as well get a bidding war going. Although, realistically I cannot see Bainsey leaving north west england, let alone emigrating!

These rumours keep growing by the day almost, a sure sign that he'll be off before August. I just hope its not carried out so late in the summer again that we ahve to have a panic buy like billy as we have no time to do anything else. Am assuming no transfer will happen during the euros so that leaves very little time afterwards to find a replacement and have pre-season before the season starts!

Moyes - start looking for a left back now!

Evra for Baines. Then the 'handshake of friendship' at the first derby game. Given that the little Uruguayan shit is still with them then, that would be something to look forward to.
