Both Goal.com and SportsVibe carry similar stories claiming that Manchester United will continue to pursue a cut-price deal for Leighton Baines, sweetened by the offer of one or two more United rejects coming in on loan.

Unless they are loaning us Rooney, Nani and Smalling for the next 10 years I can't see anything sweet about that.

On a complete side note, James S, after our long debate about Moyes and bringing Rogers in to replace him it will be interesting to watch developments across the park.

So it goes from £20 million to between £12-15 million with a couple of their surplus on LOAN??? How exactly is that a sweetner, they are just very expensive loan deals. £15 million, Fabio and Ji Sung Park to keep would be decent.

Paul Scoles on loan he is only 37 and wouldn't be a high earner these days maybe 60k week? Throw Ryan into the mix and youve got yerself a deal mate.

Who are they going to give us? Unlike many on here I think Carrick is okay but we have more than enough in the centre. I can't see him permemantly giving up Fabio and Rapheal (sounds like some sort of London hair boutique). Macheda doesn't look up to much. I like Park but he isn't worth more than a couple of mil considering his age. Everyone else they have is worth big bucks or nothing at all. They don't have anyone to sweeten the deal.

Make you bid, which unless it is £25 mil won't be enough, and then leave us in peace for the summer.

At least it looks like the £20m price tag is working. A Cashley broken leg in the next few weeks would present the threat of a real big money bid.

I wish they would just save it all until anything is set in concrete (which I hope isn't the case). How much of the transfer fee would Moyes see anyway? There is no way the likes of Park and Fabio should be mentioned as replacements and loan deals wtf!

Glen Johnson went for £18m. And he's nowhere near as good as Baines.

Why can't we ever keep our best players and build? Why do we have to look to ship out anyone half decent?

If Baines is to be sold then Everton need to hold out for full market value which if it is led to believe is circa £20 million. Kenwright has already been had off once before with the Rooney transfer, he needs to tell Ferguson the fee is £20 million - up front, no ifs, no buts, no player exchanges. If Ferguson rates Baines highly enough then he is going to need to cough up, I cannot for one minute see Daniel Levy being haggled or negotiated with over Modric.

Peter virtually no transfer fee is paid up front these days. It's all installments.
But I agree with your point that 20m is a fair market value. Daniel Levy is one of the toughest negotiators you could come across. I don't expect the same sadly of Kenwright. Especially where Utd are concerned. The thought of us bending over for them again and selling for 12m makes me sick to my stomach.

Tim Locke. Yes it will be interesting. Of all the men linked with them I really didn't want it to be him. I was pretty made up when he rejected them first time but sadly it all went full circle. I think he will do well there. And he's a guy I find hard to hate so it's gonna be tough!

I renewed my season ticket on the back of the great footy we were playing in the latter half of the season (FA Cup semi-final excluded!) but most importantly on the back of the Pienaar, Baines, Jelavic, Fellaini and Gibson attack squad... Last chance saloon with this shyster in charge for me.

I'd shake hands on the 2 twins on permanent 5 year contracts and 12 million.

Versatile and both going to be worth probably 12 million a piece at some point during that contract. Direct replacement at LB for Leighton and a young attacking rb/rw too.
Then use 8/9 million of the 12 (bank) to cover the wages of a few class freebies with huge sell on profitability i.e Hoilett.

With Baines being one of the top 2-3 LBs on earth, why on earth would he go for 20 million?

And can someone tell me where the 20 mil tag originated? Has EFC declared this or is it a number created by a media type?

Since this all seems to be revolving around ManU, will the Glazers stump up the wage increase Baines would expect moving to their club? During ManU's "youth movement"? Lescott departed and Baines took his place with no diminuation of performance at the LB position. He'd certainly (and fairly) expect what Lescott's getting, no?

Looking towards friday and Euro 2012. Media will have other ways to fill their blank pages and dead air-space.

Where all the ideas on Baines's value and everything else is from the lazy shit-stirring journos handing them in to their editors! (with the editors complicit too, no doubt).

1. He has never come out and said he want's to go, ever! He loves EFC!

2. £12 - £20 Mil, --------------------- Fuck off! It's upper £20s to £30M! He's a class defender and has exceptional free kick/ dead ball qualities, is also great in attacking roles and, last but not least, is a Boyhood blue and DOES love the club he play's for (same).

3. Just take the hint here: we all know Man City have thrown a spanner in the works with their money but do you really think it can be forced through via Bogus Press Releases and trying to dumb down the gullible enough to pass off as believable?

It will be an interesting summer to see if this being the tactics how the Bank will either make demands on EFC or how the board will buckle? I want to see the team stay together and take the club up in stature in the league while these so-called bigger clubs with masses of debts succumb to the inevitable.
EFC!! It's about EFC!!!
