I cant speak for both James's above but I have never suggested anything negative about the big fella. To me he has always oozed potential class. He may have found the refs took a dislike to him, the media pushing that one (especially those redshite twats on MOTD) but his ability has been there to see. JUst because some cant see it does not mean its not there. We all see things differently, some for the better and some not. Felli to me is worth over £40million, or at least the chance to pay off a huge chunk of the clubs debt.

If we achieve that then I will be thankful for his time here. Anything less and we should keep him as his value will rise over the next two years, especially if Belgium qualify for the next WC finals!!

He is a class act and one of the best CM in the League. His stats back it up.
Any team would want him in their side. A lot of his good work is never flashy so won't make the highlights reel that some people judge players on but his work in midfield is invaluable. When Fellaini plays well we generally always win.

Thus, its very unlikely that we would get any more than that.

Just because it says £24/26m to activate the release clause, doesn't mean we have to only accept that amount.

Do you know the source of the alleged "clause"? Does it have any credance? I just cant see how we would have had such a clause put into a contract when the manager rates the player so highly. If it was quoted as £50m then it would make sense as a way to put potential suitors off unless they were totally serious, hence a worthwhile bid, of which there have been none so far.

Dean I can see there being a get out clause for the amount being mentioned.I was very surprised Fellaini signed a new contract and imagine his agent would have insisted on the clause if they wanted him to sign.If he hadnt of signed the contract his value would probably been worth less than the clause so it would have been to the benefit of the club to put the clause in.

Tony - if its true, then I think the player may do more than "argue" about a release clause. It would be contractual. So I don't follow your logic, sorry.

That is speculative in the extreme, but maybe it could be plausable. I just dont see how such a figure would benefit the player though. If it were £50m then the buying club would want him as a starter and not a bench warmer, which would almost certainly be the case for that figyre. The player doed not want to be on the bench so would only want a move that would suit his purposes, not those of a monied club who just want to stop other clubs from playing him.

That is my take on things and is how I would play it if I were the player.

I think talking anything over £25 million for any one of everton's players is very optimistic.

Torres went to Chelsea for £50m and to be honest was never worth it. Fact is though, if a club want a player (Chelsea in his case) they will pay over the odds. If you feel that devaluing your asset is good business then that is your perogative, but for me I would want to scare off any time wasters or anyone who seriously doesnt rate the player as a genuine starter.

For me, if a player has a big ego, he just would want to be sold for the biggest fee possible, not an average fee that you suggest.

Plus you have to remember who we are,everyone knows we're in debt and we cant offer our players trophies or even europe to keep hold of them.We're not in a postion to play hard ball so for them reasons I think anything over £25m starts getting unrealistic.

Many years ago now, a defender was sold for £30 m and nobody thought he was worth it or that MU would pay such a fee, but they did. That was not an isolated high fee for a defensive player.

I have stated in this thread that I would not sell him for less than £40m in order to help rid the club of our debt. It is about playing hardball and with a five-year contract in place we hold the trump cards, So why do you want to state a small club estimate for our prized asset?

We may well see your valuation being the closer in the end, but that for me just shows that the small time attitude of the club is having the same effect on the fans. For me that is the most worrying aspect of your post. Why should we under value our players just because the media tell us so?

But, in any case - I find it difficult to grasp or understand your stance that fellaini should be £40m+ (It's come down from £50m now, gladly...), when its speculated he has a release fee of £25 million ish. We paid £15 million for him. If I did a search on here, I would find many posts from 12 months ago saying he did not live up to that original fee. He has improved, over the last 12 months. It does not make him into a £40m+ player. if he has a release fee, then that release fee IS his valuation to us. It's not rocket science.

It has not come down from £50m to £40m as you suggest. If you follow the thread, which would help you with your failing, following, then you might be able to understand the reasoning.

As for doing a search on Toffeeweb for the value of a player, well only you know the logic in that statement. Personally, as I stated earlier I would not sell for less than an amount that would go a long way towards clearing the clubs debt, £40m would be nice. I suggest that his worth to me is £40 m or more, or at least the chance to pay down the debt as much as possible. Failing that kind of silly money I would keep him as his worth will only rise (especially for those that suck up to Sky) in the next few years leading upto the next World Cup, providing Belgium qualify.

For example, I reckon it's unlikely Fellaini would consistently play off the striker for any of the teams he's linked with, he would play the holding role or at least a more conventional mid role more often than not. Strikers always go for more; always have, always will... ultimately they are the difference.

Any more than £30 million for Fellaini is nuts ? and I rate him.
