Cahill to be granted Chinese meal-ticket?

If you believe the Daily Mail (stop laughing!), Chinese side Guizho Renhe are ready to make Tim Cahill a lucrative offer to leave Everton.

The 32-year-old has two years on his contract but the mail says he looks increasingly likely to leave Goodison with Saudi Arabian clubs Al Hilal and Al Nasr also claimed to be interested and offering wages of around £3.5m a year.

The Australian has already turned down a three-year deal worth AUD$16.5m from an unnamed club in the Middle East but the Daily Telegraph down under report that "it is believed" Cahill would consider a move abroad even though he is happy at Goodison.

The Chairman has a contract in one hand and a pen in the other?

And who EXACTLY at these Saudi clubs 'claimed' to be 'interested and offering wages of £3.5m a year?

'Stories' making claims with absolutely NO facts to back them up.

"Cahill is going to China... or Saudi... or staying at Everton... or..."

Wherever Cahill does or doesn't end up, stuff like this is scattergun 'journalism'.

Tell us Cahill is going to every fucking team on the planet and eventually you'll be 'right'.

The Mail is to truth what Dappy is to untwatishness.

They could tell me that I'm me and I wouldn't believe them.

A hideous, lazy, venal, arse-wipe of rag that couldn't print the FACTS if it tried.

I was thinking something similar, Sam. Why in all of these stories, of which there have been a few now, do none of them metion what Everton would get for a first team member with 2 years left on his contract? Its like Cahill's wage is all that matters for the deal to be done.

Couldn't even get the name of the club right - it is "GuizhoU Renhe".

Anyhow, it seems from Wikipedia that the club has a great tradition - 11 club name changes since 1995.

Let me start by saying I fucking love Tim Cahill. Pardon the french, but I fucking love that lad and what he's done for the club, his attitude, his loyalty, his goals.
In my eyes an absolute legend.
I have to say tho that he is past his prime and if we could offload him and make a chunk of change for Moyes to go out and find us a new Timmy, we should take it, providing its the right thing for him too.

I have no particular love of the Daily Mail, launched in the late 1900s by an owner whose stated audience was apparently the aspirational man in the street earning a hundred pounds a year, with dreams of earning a thousand a year.

I agree that the majority of its transfer rumours later prove to be of arse-wipe value, but is it worse that other rags in this regard? I'm curious: why do you single out the Mail?

Tony, it's a fair question and I suppose it's (ultimately) a personal thing. The Sun, Star, etc, I consider comics for the remedial. The Mirror also, though at least there was a time when it was a campaigning paper and a paper that seemed to have a conscience. The Mail is pure poison, a paper that imo plays on the stupidity and anger of the frustrated, of those looking for scapegoats. They actively help create fear and division. We're 'SWAMPED!!!' by immigrants, who are 'SPONGERS!!!!'. It's a world of 'the workshy', hoodies' crime, threats, hook-handed muslims, fear. Threat, threat, threat! An almost daily list of things/people to fear. Fear what's different - DON'T embrace it. And then you look at the history of the paper. Warmongering before WW1, supported Oswald Mosely and the British Fascists (headline 1934 - 'Hurrah For The Blackshirts!'). The paper was chums (well Lord Rothemere was) with Hitler AND Mussolini - "The minor misdeeds of individual Nazis would be submerged by the immense benefits the new regime is already bestowing on Germany" (1933). Now some might say "Ah yes but that was a long..." Well maybe, but it's STILL a Rothemere concern and I wouldn't wipe..etc etc.

(bet you can guess what I DO buy)

Seriously, I can't remember who it was but someone once described the Mail as, "the Sun plus fear." Not a million miles away from your view, I guess.

Over the Summer I try (generally unsuccessfully) not to be too annoyed by shite transfer speculation penned or planted by the self-interested, lazy, ignorant or on behalf of the same group. Trouble is, I want to know what is happening or might happen, so I cannot resist a daily peek at the Newsnow site. I am waiting for the headline: "Confirmed: Kenwright sells Everton to rich Evertonian who has already bought Messi and additionally given Moyes another £200m to spend on the team."

Like all modern, Guardian-reading renaissance men, I'm far too busy protesting against tory cuts.

Plus I find the idea of flicking through a cheap thrills journal, depressing in the extreme.

The press down here have Cahill on $135,000 pw which equates to £76,000 pw. He has 2 years on this money so it's no surprise he gets to play each week regardless of form.

Just how many Ferraris does one need? He has few here in Oz...

We need to get the wage bill under control so I hope Tim has his Mandarin phrase book on hand. Good luck to him if he goes.

I can believe that TimmyC is on £40-50k a week - but not £76k; we have a salary cap at ~£55k.

Remeber Arteta was ejected because he was north of that figure (and we got a big chunk of cash to service the debts).

Would be a shame to see him go - but I agree he is in the twilight of his career.
