The Rumour Mill, Season 2011-12
Tottenham install Moyes as top target to replace Redknapp
Talks between the Everton Chairman and his coveted manager have thus far not resulted in Moyes penning an extension to his current contract which has just 12 months to run.
Moyes, currently on holiday in the United States before flying to Eastern Europe to take in some action at Euro2012, is reportedly seeking assurances over his transfer budget and the Club's resolve to keep its best players.
With Everton finishing the season strongly and optimism that a challenge for Europe could be mounted next season improving, Blues fans were expectant that Moyes would be at the Goodison helm come August. However, according to speculation in a number of the national newspapers, he may be tempted by the lure of more money and transfer options at White Hart Lane after a decade in charge at Everton.
Everton's Director of Communications, Paul Tyrell reacted on Twitter to claims made — and subsequently withdrawn after a stern rebuke — by talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams by categorically denying that Moyes has already met with Levy and that his compensation has been agreed with the Blues.
It should be noted that BBC sources do not believe that Moyes is Spurs' first choice.

"I would be very interested in being the Tottenham manager, they are a major club with a bright future. But [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy needs to be convinced I am the man for the job."
Plus there are currently three Croatian players at Tottenham as far as recall and maybe Modric could be tempted to stay with Bilic as manager?

We would get at least £3m compensation for Moyes (1 yr left on his contract); 20m for Baines, 25m for Felli, 5m for Cahill and 15m for Jags. Vic would go for about 2m.
This leaves us with 70m, of which the new manager would get 30m to spend on new signings and we would desperately need a left-back a striker and a winger.
805 Posted 14/06/2012 at 07:15:42
As mentioned above I worry as to what manager would want to come to a sell to buy regime with ropey finances and top players highly coveted by richer clubs...

However if they do approach him, I think he'll go. And who could blame him.
810 Posted 14/06/2012 at 07:42:04
Well, if they do take Moyes we can take Harry. No probs.

I do not think Moyes will be their nr.1 pick, but they might be forced into signing him if other targets refuses to sign.

815 Posted 14/06/2012 at 07:59:46
If Moyes does go - followed by Baines, Fellaini, Cahill et al, I would like to see somebody like Stuart McCall come in with a decent war chest to come in and show us what he's made of!!
817 Posted 14/06/2012 at 08:14:04
As any new manager might consider that he wants him as part of the squad at spurs, so I doubt they'll let him go until a new manager is signed and has his own squad ideas/targets.
819 Posted 14/06/2012 at 08:22:30
Moyes going or not doesn't alter the fact that we DO have much bigger problems that only SOME blues are worried about.
Things will only change for the better when the current board go.

Ally McCoist?
Lower leagues...Gus Poyet? Atkins?
Foreign....(tough with no money)....
Massive gamble....Glenn Hoddle, Steve McClaren
Probably a safe, cheap option then of Stubbs & Weir (assistant) partnership. Duncan Ferguson in as Reserve team Manager.

I do hope he doesn't find this new experience too 'taxing' .
828 Posted 14/06/2012 at 09:09:20
Massive change for him, bright lights of London - probably what he set himself to achieve all those years ago when he started out as manager - he should snap it up.
Is there still/can Moyes work under a Director of Football at Spurs?
Martinez or Bilic (who owes us a few ££) for Everton.
829 Posted 14/06/2012 at 09:13:27
He is highly thought of by the other managers and the media, we expect a lot from him because of one season where we overachieved.
I wouldn't like to see him go but I am curious to see what he would be like with money to spend and a decent squad to pick from.
830 Posted 14/06/2012 at 09:21:41
The BBC pundits are stating anything from "Moyes isn't first choice", to not even mentioning him.
Moyes is also on £3.5m a year, he won't get an increase on that in London. But he'll be under serious pressure for his job for the first time, could be out on his ear in 18 months, reputation in tatters.
What do you seriously think he'll do?

Or Maybe:-
Why was Dire Davey not considered good enough for Spurs 'cos after all the pundits and the Meejah!! just loves him?
835 Posted 14/06/2012 at 09:37:53
People are getting a little ahead of themselves by speculating about our next manager.
First of all Moyes has to be offered the Spurs job and even then then he has to be stupid enough accept it.

You can feel very free to feel inferior to Spurs, Many Evertonians (the proud ones at least) will see Spurs as a step down and would fully expect our manager to fuck them right off.
No explaing to do here lad, Moyes is a hired hand and the day he leaves, he ceases to be of any concern to Evertonians ( the proud ones at least)

848 Posted 14/06/2012 at 10:23:03
However I do think he could be a great appointment in the long term for them and would almost definitely take the job if offered as to be honest the only way for Everton is down now given our comparitive poverty, even West Ham and Southampton will be outspending us this Summer!
849 Posted 14/06/2012 at 10:30:34
The longest odds you can get on Moyes are 2/1. They're the shortest odds you can get on any other manager - Roberto Martinez in this case...
Moyes is a clear, clear favourite with the bookies at the moment:

Secondly, if Bill was to let him leave it would indicate that the club is not for sale. Casting more uncertainty on our situation, like allowing the man who spent 10 years stabilising(?) us would not doubt discourage more potential/imaginary investors...
858 Posted 14/06/2012 at 11:06:40
This has to be the chink of light Moyes is looking for. Spurs are team heading down, Everton are on the up, I hope he sees sense rather than becoming a passing fad for the Londoners. I would be devestated if he left, he has single handedly made this club respectable again. I hope he finishes the job.
860 Posted 14/06/2012 at 11:11:44
He will never leave Everton to go to Spurs ...or anywhere else for that matter
Reason....He will have to deliver at Spurs...Levy wont accept KITAP1 and fininishing 7th as annual success....He wont accept not being able to beat the likes of Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea & the RS away from home in 10yrs...if he's dumped Deputy Dawg after what he's done there then Davie's got no chance.
Moyes has the safest job in the WORLD....huge salary, a Chairman who can see no wrong in him or his style of play despite not winning a thing in 10 yrs...a seasonal brief just to make sure we dont get relegated & anything else is a bonus....and a ready made 'we cant compete we have no cash' excuse.
Does anybody really believe that he will leave all that for a job where he will be EXPECTED to win things ??....not fuckin likely !!
865 Posted 14/06/2012 at 10:59:23
I am struggling to be optimistic is this present climate, however I will have a stab, if we sell Baines could we take cash plus maybe a couple of players, Mrs Parks little lad is a work horse who I often feel is a tailor made Everton player, prehaps the young Italian striker meceada (spelt wrong I know)
If spurs do coming with some serious cash in hand for Moyes could they sweeten the compensation with throwing Piennar into the mix
As for fellaini if clubs are hovering around Goodison peering on one of our biggest assests in every sense of the word they can forget getting him on the cheap, the transfer market in football is so varied that I honestly believe that a few added million can be added depending on who the current parent club is. If Fellaini was at a top four club now he would be easily be worth Thirty million plus, in Queen kennys eyes make that Fifty million, but he is not he is at our beloved cash strapped Everton and anything below Twenty Fve million would be an insult to a club that paid Fifteen million and have brought him on so much that he is a player in demand and is being courted all over europe and has not even peaked within his own ability yet.
Right, like I said I would have a stab, now here is what I fear, DM will leave Everton not because he was a failure but simply Everton failed him. To all the Moyes haters out there be very careful what you wish for, no doubt the idiots at sos1878 will be high fiving each other today thinking mission accomplished. How Moyes has not walked away in the previous ten years is beyond me, working his socks off on a shoe string whilst the inept board failed him and undermined him at every opportunity stripping him and us of our assets.
Always feared that one scarificail lamb would be offered up this pre season I was hopeful that would be Rodwell, I know fear that it will lead to a mass exidos Baines, Fellaini and christ please no not Jelavic. Moyes has been the glue that has kept the harmony and the team spirit together at the club, without him I fear we are going back to the dark days of Walker/Smith. relegation battles playing five at the back at home to Coventry. If Moyes does go can the last person switch the lights off at the grand old lady and kiss her goodnight
869 Posted 14/06/2012 at 11:34:28
The TV deal has risen every time it has been re-tendered. Everton have continued to accrue debt in this time, and operate at a loss.
The Sun today (owned by News International who are major shareholders in BSkyB) that it will herald the advent of the £350,000 / wk player.
There's your clue as to why we'll still be in the shit.
870 Posted 14/06/2012 at 11:36:04
Whilst the Evertonian in me wants him to stay, there is a bit of me that wants him to go and show all you small minded blinkered muppets what you have lost.
871 Posted 14/06/2012 at 11:36:58
I seem to remember that they had 'arry as clear favourite for the england job. And martinez for the RS job.

Also, what's with all the rubbish about Moyes's tactics not fitting in with Spurs? He doesn't need to have the same tactics as with Everton because he will have a far superior squad and will have a bench that can actually be utilised instead of throwing on a kid or a has been.
I wish people would stop judging what he would hypothetically do at Spurs based on the players he has at his disposal at Everton. You have a better squad, your tactics change, it's that simple.

Well said! What ever criticism you can throw at Moyes one thing is for sure and that is his confidence in his own ability!
Also Tony #876
you're spot on! Moyes has adapted his tactics at everton around the players he's had available. With Pienaar, Arteta and Donovan in the team a couple of years back we played some really attractive attacking football becuse he had those type of players available. Recently he has had to take a more defensive approach as he has had a squad with strong defensive players.
If he goes to Spurs he will play the tactics required to achieve the best results available with the squad there.
I have no doubt Fellaini and Jelavic would soon follow him to WHL..........which is bloody worrying!!!
882 Posted 14/06/2012 at 12:02:15
Bad for Moyes, Levy won't give him the time BK has. Bad for Spurs, the fans will demand a continuation of free-flowing attacking football. Bad for Everton, would probably see the wheels fall off somewhat, Pienaar, Baines, Fellaini could go, and the team spirit would take a battering.
883 Posted 14/06/2012 at 12:16:33
Moyes is very happy at Everton and I for one do not see him leaving for this particular job. If he diod however leave then guess what? ... life goes on

893 Posted 14/06/2012 at 12:41:30
The truth is that alot of Everton fans, including me, would be pretty pleased (assuming we get given no money again this season) to finish in the top 6 whereas Spurs will expect/demand top 4.

Both of which will be on John Parrott's recommendation.
Davie Weir will then be made first team coach.
907 Posted 14/06/2012 at 13:26:45
I think Moyes could well do well at Spurs,as much as I dont like him he does get results. The problem is unless he gets off to a flying start and does something special in his first season i'd expect the spurs fans to hound him out.
People have said only plays the way he does because of the players at his disposal (players he signed) but I dont see it that way.
During the last few years we have had a better team than most in the league yet in the main he doesnt look to attack and finish these teams off.
909 Posted 14/06/2012 at 13:29:16
In any case, I don't think there will be any change. Whatever anyone else says about him, I think moyes genuinely loves the club and I would imagine he might only consider leaving if there was no-way to keep everton competing. He's been here so long that it must be a wrench to leave. Can kenwright convince him to re-sign? I think he can.
914 Posted 14/06/2012 at 13:38:06
"Do you think it was Moyes' footballing decision to sell Arteta, Yak, Beckford, and Vaughan in one summer, with little or nothing in to replace them?"
Firstly, Arterta wanted to move, said he wanted to play Champions League football so who was DM to stand in his way, the Yak always scores in the first couple of seasons that he's at a club then moves on, Beckford never got on with Moyes anyway and the fact that he accepted the move to Leicester showed his complete lack of ambition and Vaughan was a sick note which was proven when he moved to Norwich and got injured for the season.
At the end of the day, Moyes would have more control of our club than he would at Spurs.
915 Posted 14/06/2012 at 13:48:11
Spurs fans are not too keen by all accounts with Cappello being preferred to Moyes on their blogs. For me, we need a change, a new optimism, and a manager not afraid to win. Fingers crossed Spurs appoint Moyes and the giant that is Everton can be re-awakened from its slumber.
920 Posted 14/06/2012 at 13:34:00
If he's offered the job and turns it down, it just shows his total lack of ambition imo, and if that's the case, then he's the last person I want managing Everton.
921 Posted 14/06/2012 at 14:06:14
923 Posted 14/06/2012 at 14:16:13
They have just sacked their manager for coming 4th, obviously something else has gone on behind the scenes but this would not be the best incentive for a manager to join a club.
Sam, I am with you. What would Arry do at Everton, he wouldn't have the money to buy his way out of trouble if his managerial skill were found wanting. It was said that Arry has had a good pay off by Spurs, they have paid him £3m and it works out that after tax hie will receive......£3m....boom bomm
924 Posted 14/06/2012 at 14:14:03
Most fans moan when players want away from a club saying they are not showing enough loyalty, and yet if Moyes chooses to snub Spurs (if offered the job) and shows a bit of loyalty to finish a job here that he started, you will call that a lack of ambition!
I think we need to get real here and give the man a break. Not many men get to manage a football team at the highest level. If you have made it this far, then I think that shows you have more than a bit of ambition about you! Otherwise we'd all be bloody football managers!
927 Posted 14/06/2012 at 14:27:54
928 Posted 14/06/2012 at 14:46:04
Perhaps he will hold for the Man U job. I know some of the experts here dont think he will get it, but the current manager thinks he has a great chance.
Wonder who he`ll listen too
929 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:02:13
I'll have whatever you're drinking Dave.
931 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:00:21
TV rights are now going to bring in an extra £14 million each year from 2013, this will be enough for Everton to finally break even and even make a modest profit, BEFORE selling anyone.
-----------------
It will just inflate players' wages yet further. Until there is some sort of capping policy, clubs will see little of the extra money - or should I say they'll see it for a few minutes before it flies into the players' bank accounts.
932 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:04:23
934 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:08:21
Moyes would do a great job for them I think. We all know he is good at finding great bargains. Look how well Jelavic is doing and how Gibson reinvented himself. I doubt whether he would want to jump ship for Spurs. Without Modric and Bale which is likely I'm not sure what he could achieve there that redknapp didn't.
935 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:10:16
maybe you might want to have what SAF is drinking.
I`m sure Moyes will want to give as much consideration to your comments as he does to Fergies
936 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:03:35
If Moyes does go I don't blame him because quite frankly after what he's done here he deserves a bit of an easy ride. Then we'd all have to watch him working his genius in the transfer market picking up all those players that he could never get with us and with those better players playing a brand of football even better than what we've seen the back end of this season. Instead of Magaye Gueye on his left flank he'd have Gareth Bale. Knowing Moyes though he'll probably turn down a shed load of money, professional advancement, a chance to win trophies, all to stay at everton and try against overwhelming odds to get us back where we think we belong, and how will we thank him? By getting back to moaning at his every word and team selection and claiming that he wouldn't have been good enough for Spurs anyway. Of course some new progressive coach could come in play Barkley instead of Osman and we'll win the league, who knows he might even play 4-4-2 like mike Bassett. Even if he gets relegated as long as he did it in a flowing style he'll automatically be better than moyes and will be vindication for some people who only want to watch Everton to be entertained.
937 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:11:44
I believe the second part of your post is wrong as according to most sources Moyes did okay the sale of Arteta. That was because Arteta handed in a transfer request about three hours' before the deadline. Moyes told the board/Bill that he does not want a player who does not want to play for us. Perhaps, was reminded of the mess around the Lescott saga, when we capitulated to Arsenal with a fed-up looking Lescott at the back.
Of course, you've already admitted the first part of your post was wrong. Can people stop referring to rumour as fact. It's bloody ridiculous.
938 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:14:23
941 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:11:49
It isnt about Mikel Arteta or David Moyes, it's about Everton FC! The fact is is that selling our best and only creative player on deadline day with no time to sign a replacement was to the detriment of the club. If Arteta wanted CL football so bad, why didnt he say so earlier and tout himself around all summer, or why did he sign a 5 year contract? My point is that it wasnt a football decision, and if it was just a personal thing toward Arteta, then where did the money go? Also, just what control would he lose by moving to Spurs? If he went there, he might pinpoint a player he likes, and actually get to sign him, he might quite like having Gareth Bale playing for him, and not have to worry that the second anyone comes waving half his market value, hes gone. He also might see a new stadium being built further increasing the already inflated revenue he would have at his disposal. I really dont see this control freak Levy that people talk about. He gave Harry plenty of time (4 years) and money (god knows how much), and in the end he had nothing to show for it.
942 Posted 14/06/2012 at 14:51:20
The Head says small squad and club want survival first so 40 pts is the target and then we might push on.
Maybe the 40 pts can come quickly, if not it will be the safety first keep it tight nick a goal to endure if we have the notorious slow start.
Jelalvic will be isolated up front and service will be limited as we hang on for the point. The season ended weeks ago and we have no new faces or exits, a lot of speculation though. Remember football is business first and entertainment second. If we aint winning forget the entertainment.
If Moyes goes can we get a manager intent on winning first drawing second and losing a distant third.
Phil Neville for next Everton manager, Why? Schooled under Ferguson and Moyes, great leadership on the pitch and don't forget is a class full back so understands the defensive requirements of the premier league. Finally he won stuff at Utd with perhaps Stubbs as his assistant or Kevin Sheedy.
DM was at best an average defender turned lower league manager and now with 10 yrs under his belt. Even with all that experience I still don't see him as a winner, even Dog-leash won something, got to the FA Cup Final and injuries to key players prevented them going for a top 5 position if we are honest.
I am not a Moyes out nor in but after 10 years surely its time for a change.
So will Moyes got to Spurs? I don't think so, they want a manager with a pedigree of winning and playing football to their traditions.
Maybe for to Old Trafford but not for another 3 years at least. So give him that extension and lets see if he can prove he is a winner. I hope he is I really do.
943 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:17:54
The likes of of Martinez, Clark et al don.t really have the right to come here. I know Moyes came from PNE, but I feel he was the exception to the rule. I know he has detractors here (with good reason with regards to late subs, too defensive etc), but I really don't want to lose him.
If he did want to go, go big; don't go to fucking spurs.
944 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:18:19
Once a manager signs a contract with one of the so called bigger clubs they are made whether they win something or not. I would have thought on a personal level it is much easier managing Liverpool with a 3 year contract in your back pocket, than it is facing the daily pressures of keeping Everton afloat.
945 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:31:49
I think you have summed up how a very large part of our fanbase feel.

I hope he stays and gets some reasonable budget to work with from these rich, cheap bastards we have for owners.
Interesting angle on all this, if Moyes goes. What about the enormous pressure his replacement will be under to get like, yearly Table results with the budget Moyes had to work with?
Guess whoever it is, and us, will find out just what an "easy comfy job" managing EFC has been all along.

I don't like Moyes but I will admit he has done well to keep as high in the league as he does on a regular basis but how can you say he is the only man that could have kept us safe? When was the last time we was relegated?

Re Spurs, I just cannot see Levy coming in for Moyes as his style imo is completely against what spurs are about. Still from my side he is more than welcome to make an offer that Moyesy cannot refuse. (A couple of spurs fans I know are dreading the thought of Moyes joining them....I can only pray).
Re who could replace him, I'll cross that bridge if he actually leaves!
961 Posted 14/06/2012 at 16:18:56
"Or if Martinez takes over and struggles, will the appologists become the MOB ? "
And will the new MOB (Martinez out brigade) be the appologists and then want to form the MBB (Moyes back brigade) and if so does that mean that none of us will have a clue as to who is who?
962 Posted 14/06/2012 at 15:48:50
Moyes for Spurs? Well, that depends on Gordon Clegg giving Moyes money for reinforcements to squad (if he's offered the job).
I have moaned about Dithery dave on countless occasions, especially after April's semi-final, but to see him actually go... it's a toughie, now that a couple of likely candidates for any future EFC job have been snapped up.

Robbie Savage is just a wind-up merchant. He loves stirring up emotions, good or bad because he knows that controversy is more interesting than the normal course of things. He always makes people think, so job done for him really!!
968 Posted 14/06/2012 at 16:22:31
Harry wasn't sacked for finishing only fourth, he's even said so himself, I would say it was more to do with his high profile and very distracting court case along with his "it's never my fault" attitude that have pushed the Spurs board to look elsewhere, only board members are allowed to have dogs with bank accounts, managers doing the same are getting a bit above there station in their eyes.
969 Posted 14/06/2012 at 16:38:46
Moyes might not be the biggest advocate of nice football, but its not as if Spurs would play hoofball if Moyes took over. If you look at their midfield with the likes of Bale, Van der Vaart and Modric, that team are going to play nice football whoever is in charge. They have one of the best attacks in the league.
Spurs' main weakness is to shut up shop and defend. They do have some good players, but do not defend the best as a unit. I can see Moyes sorting that out very quickly, so they could arguably be even better than that with Redknapp.
Martinez is the obvious replacement, and hes the best of the bunch I think, just needs a lot of time to implement his style. At least we will see some good football and Kenwright, although he has huge flaws, seems to give the managers some backing.
By the way, Moyes' first signing would be Jagielka. Can just see that happening
970 Posted 14/06/2012 at 16:43:19
Theres loads of reasons, geography, money, disagreement on objectives, contract length, disliking the chairman, not being allowed to take your own staff. That's off the top off my head.

Scott #970, how is it bollocks? Did I miss us being bought out by a billionaire? Are Spurs players shit compared to ours? Are Spurs skint like us?
976 Posted 14/06/2012 at 16:52:54
But with all this talk of Moyes leaving (I hope not) and who'll replace him? Whoever it is, God help him because he'll get none from this bunch of owners.
Maybe our set of skinflints might finally feel some legitimate, genuine pressure to let a little money go to Moyes this transfer window. Probably not, given the form over the years. But they can. They DO have the money.
On the other hand, maybe they've figured a way around the expression, "You can't take it with you". Given their tight-fistedness, perhaps they have.

980 Posted 14/06/2012 at 17:40:20
Many of us get better job opportunities from time to time - if we don't take them, does it show a lack of ambition? Of course not. It just means we might put family first and not want to up-root 300 miles south to london. I've turned down several better jobs over the years (not the spurs one...), I like the area I'm in now and do not want to live and work in london. Thats a life-choice I make, not a lack of anything. I turned another "better" job down because I thought my potential new boss was a right plum. You spend most of your waking life at work. May as well make it enjoyable, eh?
The fact that Moyes *might* not get his head turned by perceivably "better" offers, and remains loyal and committed to doing a job with everton, is a very positive thing. How you can turn it into a negative is quite frankly baffling...
981 Posted 14/06/2012 at 17:50:53
My bog worry is that should Moyes go there, he's naturally going to look to the likes of Baines, Pienaar and Jelavic. So, we'd end up losing more than a manager I fancy. Only Everton's bank and accountant will be relishing this in the long term I fear...
982 Posted 14/06/2012 at 17:41:27
983 Posted 14/06/2012 at 18:37:21
So, in answer to your question: Yes, I do believe Moyes has control over as much at the club as he feels reasonable to both parties. It's also something he quite often talks about, the fact BK lets him have control. Perhaps you haven't seen the interviews where he states this or perhaps you just think he's a liar?
985 Posted 14/06/2012 at 19:06:49
986 Posted 14/06/2012 at 19:40:28
Thank God for that then, we've got the new Dario Gradi, another twenty years to go at least.
Football managers move around, it's part and parcel of the job, Benitez for instance, still lives on the Wirral, it didn't stop him taking up a position in Italy though. It's a no brainer for me if he's offered the job, all things being equal {conditions wise etc.} he stands a better chance of silverware there than he does here at the moment.
987 Posted 14/06/2012 at 19:45:08
988 Posted 14/06/2012 at 20:19:21
Part and parcel of the job? Really? Because this whole thread has only come about because Harry Redknapp has departed spurs.
Who, ironically, has spent the last 30 years of his managerial career exclusively in the south close to his home.
So...its only that way if you choose it to be.
990 Posted 14/06/2012 at 20:09:26
At least Kenwright confines his media drivel to his own club and that's embarrassing enough. I don't look forward to hearing the chairman of Wigan Athletic telling all and sundry that Roberto Martinez is too big for EFC, which is why I hope the situation never arises.

Perhaps he just might think he has a better job with a better club with a better lifestyle for his family.
012 Posted 14/06/2012 at 22:18:51
Whether those things comprise a 'step up' is questionable. For a professional manager who wants to win trophies and play in the champions league I believe they do.
014 Posted 14/06/2012 at 22:14:09
Really? This is one of the more bizarre comments in this thread. Firstly at an individual level the most Moyes has spent on a player is Fellaini, - he is clearly our best player so this hardly represents 'less'.
Second and more obviously - when in any real terms has he had anything close to 'more' with any substantial or consistently meaningful sum to spend? Never. Ever.
Just another Moyes bashing comment without foundation.
Whatever anyones view on style of play his dealings in the market overall are impressive and probably the main reason he has so many 'outside' admirers. The latest example being this Januarys loans/purchases.

Your statement seems particularly odd as I think the majority of people would agree that our 3 most expensive current players (Fellaini, Baines and Jelavic) are also our best. That kind of makes your point look a little bit stupid I think.
Yes he's made mistakes in the transfer market, Bily was awful and Beattie not much better but his other big signings - Johnson, Yak, thats about in 10 years - were at worst decent.

His company made a profit of £1m last year.. yep, £1m. Now that sounds very nice to me personally, but in the scale of running a Premier League Football Club it dosent touch the sides. Moyes gets paid 3 TIMES what Kenwrights company makes per year.
Peter Green, scary post you made there.

025 Posted 14/06/2012 at 23:01:27
He has kept us in a competitive position despite a chronic and shameful lack of investment and ambition at board level. He has a clear eye for talent and in Cahill, Arteta, Baines, Jagielka, Lescott, Pienaar and even recently, Gibson and Jelavic; he has proven his capacity to nurture and develop players. Therefore, I hope he stays and is given the chance to spend some money and build his team.
Perhaps in 2008, we were at our best. There was a lot more free-flowing football with Arteta pulling the strings. Can you remember the 7-1 thrashing of Sunderland or that truly tremendous display v Fiorentina? Even Moyes's biggest critics should reflect on those games at a time before a total lack of spending and key player sales limited our effectiveness.
If he were to leave, who could we realistically go for? An old has-been non-Evertoniann would be a genuine disaster. The likes of Curbishley, McLeish, Allardyce, McClaren, McCarthy would make my heart sink into my boots. Surely, a young and ambitious manager would be a better option.
One name that stirs some interest for me would be Lee Clark. He had a tremendous unbeaten record at Huddersfield and was strangely sacked. It would be a massive step up at Everton so he would need an old head who knows the Blues expectations and history to help him along as his number 2.
Peter Reid was, I think, his manager at Sunderland and would create a sense of pride and passion. Just an idea, for me the best man to manage Everton next year is David Moyes with the addition of 2 factors. Some dosh from the chairman, and a hands up acceptance from the boss that a defensive mentality will get us so far but as shown at Wembley, will never be enough to win a trophy. An all-out positive approach and prioritising of cup games to give us the trophy we all crave would be my preferred way forward.

Third highest goalscorer in the EPL behind Van Persie and Rooney.
What could we have done with those 17 goals?
039 Posted 15/06/2012 at 03:51:05
If he isn't offered the job, it will show that 'bigger' clubs don't really rate him. If he is offered the job and knocks it back, it won't show loyalty to Everton, but that he thinks it is too big of an ask for him. Really, what person wouldn't want a promotion from state school to public school? The other option is if he's offered the job, and takes it, he will show exactly what he is capable of doing with some money.
A real beard-scratcher is this.
059 Posted 15/06/2012 at 08:31:53
Stop worrying Moyes will NOT leave Everton....
062 Posted 15/06/2012 at 08:37:40
A talentless twat who touched VERY LUCKY to make a career in the game and now thinks he (and his opinions) is more important than he actually is. If you watch him as a pundit it is obvious that he just talks shite to be controversial...
Who cares what that knobhead he thinks....
As I'm sure you can all guess....I HATE Robbie Savage
082 Posted 15/06/2012 at 09:31:42
His whole persona (what little there was of it) has become more and more morose the last few seasons. He is having sulks now whereas he wouldn't show this emotion before.
Offer him a higher paid job, guaranteed transfer money and a larger, better squad.....what person wouldn't take it?

I have to agree with you on the timing and Lambert situation. He was the main candidate for the job in my opinion.
I wonder how many people would want Redknapp after the critisism of Moyes's tactics and boring football (of which I'm one)? We would certainly be entertained and have some high scoring games but with the transfer budget the management could be more like the Portsmouth days instead of the Spurs one's where we would see a lot of mercenaries playing. But in truth the bloke does my head in and he never seems to have any love of the clubs he manages (apart from West Ham).
All irrelevent really because Moyes is NOT going anywhere... and if you think otherwise then you don't know how this man thinks.
191 Posted 15/06/2012 at 18:56:10
No one has ever wanted him and, although I will praise him for his hard work and effort (mind you, £3m a year would make anyone work hard), I think he has proved that he is not up to the job of restoring Everton back to the top of English football. His negativity, dithering and stubbornness to stick with his favourites even though they are horribly out of form is baffling. And surely no other PL boss would have used Hibbert as his first choice RB for a decade.
I would like to see him go and would wish him well, as everyone leaves sometime, and then if we continued to falter, the fans would unanimously turn their ire towards the board, and the club may reach a watershed and the direction of the last 20 odd years could be altered. Sadly, I really think he will be offered a long contract and Evertonians too young to remember the 'School of science' days will just put up with the same old shite for another 10 years or so
193 Posted 15/06/2012 at 19:26:26
228 Posted 15/06/2012 at 22:47:24
Bring in who you like, we're fucked under current ownership. And whoever you bring in, let's see if he can keep us in our current league position holding pattern on the budget afforded Moyes.
No such thing as indifferent owners and championship teams. Doesn't happen. So have in who you like, "the same old shite for another 10 years or so" will happen.
Assuming, of course, the new manager can do what Moyes did on the same budget.

Basically from the comments I've read everyone seems swayed by talksport and the various pundits on tele who whenever a managers job becomes available mention Martinez like he is this god like manager! And that English based managers are the only option.
I'd like to throw another name in the hat Slaven Bilic, yes our old talismanic centre back! He's got an affinity with the club and I'm guessing would like to work with jelavic (grasping at straws maybe?) He is at his last tournament currently with Croatia and he's done a good job there considering it's his first job. Forget about Kenwright's money issues that is the fella that I'd like to see in charge next. Who would your choice be?
