This highly speculative article suggests Everton could negotiate a longer loan deal for Landon Donovan next season and have him boosting the side from mid-November to mid-February.

In this scenario he would have to play in the MLS season until October or November, play in the Premiership until March or April then report back for the following MLS season. No break. It will not happen. The two month loan worked for him because it kept him fit. This way he would simply be knackered. He enjoys life too much to go two full seasons without a break as well as competing in World Cup qualifiers with the USA. This won't happen. What could happen is a full transfer but there are some serious quality of life issues for someone swapping California beaches for the wet back roads of Cheshire and 300 days of rain out of 365. He would be a great partner for Jela, though.

With Landon, who knows. I never saw him coming on loan this last season and there he was in Blue.

This for certain, Arena will have to break-up the current Galaxy squad at the end of the season. We have the salary cap over here, and Galaxy has it bulging at the breaking point. There will be significant changes.

Beckham's still the top merchandise mover in MLS and the drawing card when Galaxy go out to the Pacific pre-season. He's just locked in his last player contract. So he's staying. Keane's replaceable at much lower cost. There's other player's you wouldn't know the names of who are making a nice buck (by MLS standards). Also, easily replaceable.

Landon? There's a host of financial reasons Landon would stay at Galaxy. Best I calculate, his current salary converts to somewhere between 30-35,000 pounds per week. Even for our budget, doesn't seem to hefty. But he makes around twice that in endorsements and I have no idea how it could be worked out, if signed by Everton, that he maintain the same level income. Next, he pays a maximum of 26% federal taxes. Don't know what his tax rate would be playing in England. So, I can't see salary being a deal-breaker. The rest? Beats me.

QOL? He loves SoCal, always loved playing for Arena, the fans love him, etc. On the other hand, he clearly loves EFC, loves Moyes, the fans love him. A push.

For me as an Evertonian, he fits right into the Club. Would love to see him back. Jela up top with Piennar and LD down the flanks? Fuck me, that would be fun to watch. As an American, same as always. Watching my country's best field player so far, at a big Club (now my Club) in the top league.

If he says he wants to come, can't see MLS stopping him, given the loyalty he's shown over the years and all he's done for the league. And for sure, Galaxy is breaking this side up end of season due to the salary cap. Is LD a part of that is the big question.

Paul, Everton would have to register Donovan as one of their 25 for the start of the season, despite him not signing until later, but if a loan agreement is in place it could be done. Everton don't have a huge squad, so leaving the extra spot open might just be worth it.

Has anybody been on loan at the same club 3 times? Christ we'll still be taking him on loan in Jan - March 2016. FFS only Everton eh.

Very good player and I wish we had him full time. My reservation is that we should have someone playing in that slot as good as or better than him already. That he can almost automatically command his place, be it in January or November, is, I'm afraid, a sign of a weakness which should be sorted out.

If we register him with us doesnt that mean he cant be registered with Galaxy and therefore cant play for them.I dont know the ins and outs of the rules but I doubt what you say can be done.I've known transfers and loans to be put in place before the windows open but they still dont go through till the window is open.The only players that can be signed outside of the windows are players without a club and i'm sure even they have to be registered by mid-November or they cant play till January.

Olof Mellberg is all set to sign for Everton on a free transfer.

Apparently the Swedish press are all reporting this as a near certainty

So, Neville hangs out in SoCal off-season last few years and works out at the Galaxy's facility. He's on ESPN today talking about telling LD to sign a permanent deal with Everton.
