Site issues and pop-up ads

Some lingering layout problems associated with our recent site redesign have been brought to our attention, most recently from users on Safari – both Mac OS X and on iOS for iPhone and iPad.

Unfortunately, we've been unable to recreate these glitches on these platforms but if you are experiencing issues with columns not appearing or overlaying each other, let us know, either below or by email to lyndon@toffeeweb.com and we'll endeavour to find out what is going on.

Obviously, if you're having problems on other browsers or devices (Windows, Internet Explorer, etc) please do let us know as well.

Pop-ups

We have been receiving complaints about pop-up ads displaying on the site recently and we'd like to assure you that this is not deliberate. Again, this is not something we're seeing but we're trying to identify which advertising script is causing it.

If you are still seeing pop-up ads on the site as of this evening (Tuesday) can you let us know, again either in the comments section below or by email?

Pop-ups and linked text which load unwanted ad layers are annoying and user-unfriendly. As we've mentioned before, we have always tried to keep the advertising on the website as unobtrusive as possible and are regularly turning down invitations for these kinds of advertising or intrusive ads or video players which auto-play with sound.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide and also for your patience.

Hi Lyndon

Thanks for all you and Michael do to make this wonderful resource available to Blues.

I can say that when I accessed the side via my Blackberry tablet I found I was unable to close the pop-up. The problem was the "close" icon was too close to the close browser icon - even when I took extra care with my fat fingers - and whenever I tried to close the ad I inadvertently closed the bloody browser! So I gave up trying to access via the tablet. :(

Regretfully still getting the pop-ups at this time. In this instance for 'World War Z'.

Having problems with overlaying text on the row with Club Everton on it.

Both in IE7 and IE9, but not a big issue.

Lyndon,
What I'm going to call, the grey navigation panel to the left, does not appear in Chrome, Firefox or IE8 when running XP. On Windows 7, it appears in all but IE.
I don't really care for it myself but I guess others might like to see it....then again, if they don't know what they're missing... :-)

That advert for Netflix is filling my screen and every time I move my mouse after closing it, the bloody thing re-appears

Yeah, I've got problems using Safari on a PC. Sometimes the columns are completely screwed - the right one doesn't appear and for the first part of the page the first column is half the correct width and there is no second column either, everything is in a single column. Then it goes into two columns! It's proving a disincentive for me using the site.

Hi Lyndon, I emailed last week then the problem disappeared. It now appears intermittently. Next time it happens I'll take a screenshot and e-mail it to you.

I'm not sure if this is to do with my broadband which is patchy at best.

That is quite annoying. Surely it should expand on a mouse click not on a mouse over

I'm getting Pop-ups for a health shake on safari on the iPad. It may be a subliminal message though as I'm an ol' fat arse...

Thanks for message Lyndon, really like the new website layout but had noticed the pop out adverts and worried that you had been taken over by arch-capitalist. Keep up the good work.

Hi Lyndon. Don't bother fixing mine, clicked on it the other day and a naked lady popped up. She'd gone to town with a razor.

Problem is my keyboard keys are all sticky now

So Kev gets a shaven raver and I get a shake of another variety. Life can be unfair sometimes...

I can't get the site working properly in IE6.

Just kidding... (from one web dev to another).

The 'jump to end' doesn't work on my S2 and a 'back to top' would be handy on a long thread like the Baines one.

I keep getting adverts in Swedish.

Could be something to do with being on holiday over here at the moment. Still to meet a Blue but met a few Red who I have taken great delight in telling them that once again we finished above them.

And was I wrong to use the phrase Roda Shita to describe them to the people selling us Ice Cream? My wife (Blue by marriage) said I was wrong to just translate it like that?

I don't think the site is displaying properly on iPad any more? I keep seeing the right sidebar appearing underneath the main column. Is it just me?
