Vossen keeps on scoring!

Jelle Vossen – a player I have said we should sign for many a month now – is having another great season with 3 more goals today (16 goals so far!) and he is somebody we have been linked with before.

I just hope we seriously try and bring him in to help out Jelavic – as long as he doesn't cost too much!

Paul. Signing a 2nd striker isn't a priority given that our manager clearly favours 4-5-1, and playing our current 2nd strikers on the wing at every opportunity.

We'd be better off getting a decent RB or CM, or cover for Mirallas/Pienaar.

An impact goal poacher from the bench. Sounds good to me.

Not sure this guy would fit the bill, but I think a striker would be the right addition. Others also need a striker so competition will be fierce.

Ian, I think the point is that if our first XI has weaknesses, then signing a sub for one of our better players isn't a priority, we really need to sort the first team first.

Jelly is one of our better players, he just lacks support and service. He doesn't miss many and we also have Mirallas and Vellios who can play in that position. If I had limited funds and always played with one striker, I know where I'd put my money.

Most games are tight, so I'd argue a striker could make a huge difference to where we ultimately finish. Vellios isn't going to make that difference with the best will in the world, and Vic is never fit. A decent striker could help Jelavic, by adding pressure or reduce the workload.

Moyes has 3 right backs on the books, so I can't see us adding here yet. If Neville goes and we get a decent bid for Coleman, then yes. We are light in midfield so perhaps he'll go for the Belgian kid again, but I think he won't.

Everton are decent. It's a bit like a house you are doing up. The new kitchen makes other parts of the house look tatty.

We aren't playing 4-5-1 though are we. More like 4-2-3-1 or most of the time 4-4-1-1, so he could fit in that system i.e push Fellaini back in the middle, make this guy play behind the main striker. Or if he is a CF then play him instead,

I also think that getting another striker in is important, maybe not a priority like getting another goalkeeper/CM/DM

Wayne (#345), I agree he's one of our better players, in fact he's one of the best finishers we've had in a generation, but right now I wouldn't say "he doesn't miss many". Yes, yes he does.

Is there anything to be said for trying to get Darren Bent on loan in Jan? No way we could buy him, but he's out of favour and has scored goals everywhere. Cant see him playing with Jela though, they probably wouldnt work too well together.

Darren Bent could be a good shout, I think he's wasted at Villa but he hasn't helped himself in regards to moving to lots of different clubs with different tactics/philosophies. A good finisher but he's another English player who has been vastly overrated in my opinion.

I think Darren Bent would want to go somewhere where he will play regularly and I'm not sure if we can offer that if Jelavic hits some form.

Do we think we need to actually make changes in the striking department? Will Jela start banging them in once he gets back on the scoresheet, or is there something deeper wrong? Even when he is in form, we over rely on him as we basically have no other out and out strikers if he gets injured.

Bent?? Really?? OMG

The reason he's not getting in the Villa team is cos Lambert knows he's a lazy bastard who doesn't get involved with build-up play and doesn't pressure to win the ball back. A pure finisher and that's it! That may sound okay to some of you, but I can't think of a forward Moyes would want less! Berbatov maybe?

I would have 10 pence each way on Doyle from Wolves on loan.

Where are we getting the money for any of this btw?

If Bent makes another appearance, I think Villa have to pay Sunderland another £3M. I don't think they can afford it. Maybe loan apps don't count so that could be a goer. Not sure if he would fit in though.

I think realistically we all know that we'll get Odjidja-Ofoe on loan and possibly sign Forren as he'll be quite cheap.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moyes brings back Cahill, even if we think it's a step backwards.

But it looks like Donovan will take a break out of football... I could be mistaken though.

I'd take Bent on loan. You can slag him off all you want but he scores goals, and would be good competition to Jelavic. Doubt it will happen though.

Doyle aint a bad shout too, better than Vellios

Goals win games. Our defense is now hopefully sound. Let's get someone other than Felli who can actually score.

Bent, lazy, overated? 1 goal every 2 games says otherwise.

We need a centre-half more than a striker. Heitinga is shite and Distin is 34 now so we need someone in there soon...

Agree with Mike (#431).

Chris (#392) — how can you claim "our defense is now sound"???

We can't keep a clean sheet for love or money and have given away some ridiculous goals recently.

IMO we need a top class GK and a better class CB.

Sell Heitinga to Ajax and get Lescott back on loan.

Get Ofoe in alongside Gibbo and we've almost got a consistent CL quality first 11.

We have no "decent" back-up or competition for Jelavic so I really believe this guy will fit the bill.

I appreciate what people are saying regarding players in other positions but we have done really well this season, dominating games and playing well – the main thing letting us down though seems to be that we can't seem to finish teams off. Maybe more options striker-wise is the answer?

Bent is a goalscorer and does no work off the ball. Defoe is a better player and is deadly in front of goal but neither are worth a lot of money at this stage of their careers.

Benteke is ahead of Bent because he is a better all around player, he works hard and scores too. The crowd would soon get on Bent's back!! He does even less off the ball than Defoe or Owen.

These players need top class service otherwise they are passengers. We need eleven committed players to get the most out of our tiny squad.

Jay, I said "hopefully" sound. That's a big IF. We have to learn the hard and difficult lesson of trying to play attractive, flowing football yet still maintaining a defensive resoluteness. We have yet to find it but hopefully with Hibbert back it will help a good deal and set us on our way.

If you saw how hard Berbatov worked for Fulham yesterday you would want him in your team. Best first touch I have ever seen, great team players, superb finisher.

I think his sometimes laconic looking style belies all the work he does. He just reads the game better than most. I would sign him in a heartbeat... if we could afford his wages.

I agree Julian. He was brilliant last night.

I don't know whether he does that every week though. I don't usually watch Fulham. I only had a look because I'd just signed him for my BetFred Dream Team.
