Eddy Bosnar

 Comments (9) jump to end

Prior to an A-League Match this evening, Fox Sports presenters had Eddy Bosnar as a guest panelist to discuss the upcoming Asian Champions League matches involving his current club Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

Barely remembering his uneventful spell at Everton, I took the liberty of checking what he has done between then and now. What came up was a number of blistering free kicks that would send Der Hammer back to school.

Recently in May 2012 a 123 km/hr goal from 30 yards out and also another one for Dinamo Zagreb along the same line. Whilst I cannot comment on his other skills, I am guessing this is what Moyes saw in the guy.

Does anyone recall seeing him play for the reserves and what was the rest of his game like?

I do remember him scoring a free kick in the mini derby at Wrexham a few years ago, but as he was only on a working holiday visa he was never going to play unless a massive injury crisis.

Not having seen Eddie, I cannot speak about his power of shot but it would have to be something special.

Sandy Brown, the one most remembered for his brilliant headed own goal vs the Shite, was another with a cannonball shot. In a national competition where each club nominated a player, Sandy came second to Peter Lorimer of Leeds. Another Blue with an astonishing power drive was Ken Birch who would 'have a go' from the half way line.

Of non-Blues with a good kick, I would have to nominate Bobby Charlton who added lethal direction to his power. On Bobby's Goodison debut, we were amazed at the cheek of this young fellow who would shoot from any distance but mostly at the corner flags or into the stands. The faithful began jeeringly to roar shoot each time Bobby had the ball. That kind of mickey taking ceased once he developed his awesome reputation.

I moved house for a player once and he was my contact at the Slovenian border to get into Croatia. He seemed like a nice guy but he said that the reserve team coach at that time just did not rate him and he never played.

Jefferson, you talking about Eddy? He played 18 games for the Ressies that season and scored two blasters, both against Liverpool!

Not enough to get noticed by Moyes, obviously, but he did get played a fair bit for the Reserves that one season he was at Everton.
